I was 17 when I, after 6 hours in line, purchased the first ticket sold at the local cinema. A fan since September of 69 at age 6, having defended the show and my interest in it for a decade, finally came to reality. at time stamp 01;09, when the crescendo following "Take Us Out" began, I jumped to my feet at gave a standing ovation. Suddenly, every other fan that felt like I did, also stood and gave a standing ovation. We accounted for about 80% of the audience. I still feel the electricity and the emotion every time I hear this piece and remember that time forty- three years ago.

I remember first seeing this in the theater in '79 when I was 6 years old. Being so hard-core-sci-fi, it left such an intense impression on me that I was raving that I wanted my own USS Enterprise ship after I saw it! And my dad loved the Goldsmith epic music so much he bought the record album and used to play it on his huge, room-shaking LOUD stereo system in our living room. My goodness, the music was insane!

When I was a kid I liked Wrath of Kahn and Search for Spock, but as I get older TMP is by far the best story and my favorite. I find this a very carefully performed work, and I have put my finger on one point: the split-second rests that occur punctuate the music beautifully, almost as though they were paragraphs in literature (to fit the scene shots no doubt). If you listen at the point around 1.40 to 1.42 there is one such full rest (there are others), and it makes, for me, the music magnificent.

I like it how civilized your answer was. For that alone I salute you, really I do, but even the cast members are not proud of TMP to say the least.
And I kinda see their point. The effects, while a few steps forward from TOS, are still bad. The cinematography, like the plot, is slow (time how much minutes passed in uneventful fly-throughs). And speaking of the plot - when I compare it to subsequent Star Trek movies, it's no different from being an over-glorified extended episode (Just to be fair with you, star trek FC which I LOVE, has a similar problem).
If you want to talk about success despite the budget, why not WoK? It had to reuse the same props, and shots taken just 3 years earlier, and it's not only a superior movie than TMP, some say the best movie in the franchise

@@ABhaim I do see your point yet I can not see where the movie is a failure just because of the effects, yet i for my taste find the movie just because of the music a lot better and of someone remade all outside scenes with CGI i think it would have the same effect just a bit of a more modern look to it as I am completely fine with the script besides the thing that I did not and I will say again, DID NOT watch the movie in its full glory yet because they did not put it on Netflix. But I have searched all the behind stuff that would have been glassed over in the movie it self and can only say that I wish I could see all the 6 movies from start to finish if I had the means to watch them. In short I do agree with you almost in all casses so I won't complain too much at this point. So if you do wish that I see your point spread the message to get The Motion Picture on Netflix and when I watch it I will return to you and will exactly tell you what I think of the movie and if I completely agree with you or not.
