Frankly they could make a series about Mike Ehrmantraut just wearily going about his day, looking faintly disgusted with everything, and I'd gladly watch it.

Something I like about Mike is that he gets hit in gunfights, he’s just ridiculously stoic and doesn’t let that stop him. It fits Mike so well because Mike is aging and he’s clearly not as flawless as he was when he was younger, but he’s just as efficient and dangerous even if he gets hit.
normally I’d chalk this up to adrenaline numbing the pain but I don’t think anything mike does causes him to feel adrenaline

It's refreshing to hear a more realistic sounding suppressor. I've always wondered why they used some weird laser gun sound. I'm not Ranger Rick or anything, but the few times I heard that IRL, you could always hear the metallic sound of the bolt racking at the same volume of the report.

@@joemiller1923 Bob Odenkirk couldn't make it to the set one day because he was busy filming for something else. He was supposed to be the one who showed up at Jesse's house when Jane died, but since he wasn't there, they hired Jonathan Banks to play a one-time character. Mike Ehrmantraut became so popular they kept him as an ongoing character for the entire show.
@@rithrius5384 I love how Vince Gilligan and the rest of them actually paid attention to what the audience responded to, and let the actors actually bring the characters to life, in a sense. Like how Jesse was supposed to die in season 1, but Aaron Paul just absolutely killed it and they not only kept him, but he ended up being the one who survived lol.

@@WoWhistorian I heard someone a couple of days ago talking about how terrible American TV shows are because they don’t care about story or characters and are always fighting for renewal. They thought British TV was better because they have everything planned in advance and don’t have to worry about being canceled. Vince Gilligan and his team disproves this theory. They just roll with the punches and continuously produce the greatest TV ever made. A good team of writers and producers can work magic.
Mike always having the badass emotionless face is iconic. That's why in the episode where he talks about his son is so heart breaking, "I broke my boy"

His face is usually so emotionless, that even the tiniest bit of expression can be immediately picked up by the viewer.

Shooting through a door or partition to get the enemy is an old Hollywood standby I first saw in the movie "The Mechanic" (1972) with Charles Bronson, though it may have occurred earlier, a serious movie buff would know.

Rewatching the scene threatening Lydia makes me realize giving Lydia the ricin was probably the most thoughtful thing Walt did (if he knew Lydia had a daughter, which I believe he did) Not letting her disappear and having her die in a seemingly natural way was very considerate of her daughter.
I would’ve let Lydia disappear. That’s the price you pay for having people killed and getting mixed up with cartels and nazis

Mike was the only character in the entire series that Walt was afraid of and respected deeply.
Idk ab "respect" (don't get me wrong, walt definitely admired Mike to an extent), he did murder the man.
No he didn't respect Mike, if he did he wouldn't have tried to play games with him.
He did however properly fear him though, which is saying alot because he didn't even properly fear Gus. With Gus, when it came to a certain point, even when he was trembling in his boots he felt enough courage to bark back at him and make his own terms. Almost all of his interactions with Mike involve Walt getting defensive and trying to broker a peace.

Thank goodness for Better Call Saul as it delves much further into Mikes background, and I can definitively say, made me love him even more.
Madrigal gave Mike a no-show type job and paid him with his own money, and Mike showed up and worked. To him, he was hired to do a job, he did it, that's it.
Pure brilliance. The part where he's scooting around the warehouse with his clipboard is classic.
mike had the makings of a varsity athlete.
I think he mostly did it because he wanted to make sure the place he was getting his money laundered at had decent security. He was scared that his family would find out about his work.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I never see Mike use any machine gun. Maybe it’s because of accuracy and precision issue but to be fair, Mike is the coolest with pistols.
In BCS he uses as sniper rifle, but other than that, you're right, I can't remember him using anything other than a pistol.
its because pistols are lightweight, can be taken on the go, and be hidden easily, perfect for a hitman

He's a hitman, not a soldier (despite Gus calling him that). He also finds big guns to be ridiculous. Remember when he took the guns from this clown on his protection job?

Interesting story about the song they use for Mike infiltrating the warehouse. It's Shambala by the Bestie Boys, and it was one of two songs that they wrote for the Tibetan Buddhist monks. The royalties for the song all go to charities for them. So everytime Mike Ehrmantraut caps those guys on TV the Dhali Lama gets a check.
That, Lydia scene, was intense. These actors and actresses in that scene did a phenomenal job acting and bringing out emotion.
We need a spinoff of young Mike.

Cause it takes more than being in a room with some and having a gun to kill them. As Mike so expertly showed us.
Probably because Gus would have survived and killed Walt and his family in the most slow and painful way possible.
His criminal persona gives him over confidence. He thought he could sell Mike on this idea of a coup. Walt is clearly out of his depth. Look at the Disdain that Mike later has for the operation Walt tries to build. Gus was an actual visionary.

One of my favorite things in BB is the relationship between Mike and Jesse, it starts with Mike helping Jesse because it's his job, then he starts to work with him even if they don't like it at first. And then it becomes a dad/son or maybe a grandpa/grandchild relationship, with Mike even being proud of him and not wanting Jesse to get hurt or get involved too much in dangerous situations

Love the surviving Twin Hospital scene. There’re 20 cops in the Hospital lobby when all of a sudden there’s a commotion and the Cops (and Walt) start rushing upstairs as word began to spread that the Twin was dying. The cops watch as the Docs unsuccessfully try to save the Twin as he dies…then you see Mike walk by in the background and drop a Needle into the trash.
That scene threatening Lydia was perfect. As a parent it really hit me and made me feel for Lydia.
He should have gunned down Lydia's daughter with Lydia watching. That would have made my day.

Let's just all admit that as men ,we all wish we were as confident,in control and efficiently and effectively as bad assed as this guy.
Mike is the perfect example of the famous saying - "Beware of an old man in a profession where men usually die young".
Well Mike only was in the game canonically for about 7 years. He joined Gus in ‘02 and worked with him throughout BCS, then died in what would canonically be ‘09, considering Walt spent the next few months running the game with Todd and then went into hiding for almost a year before dying himself in 2010.
By that logic, Tyrus or Victor are better suited to their jobs than Mike is. They’d been with Gus years earlier than he had, and only died a few months before he did.
@@tedioussugar384 Mike had a lifetime of experience before meeting Gus. He was a crooked cop before moving to Albuquerque, so it's easy to assume that he knows the ins and outs of being a criminal more than anyone in the show. And, while not explicitly said, he was most likely a Vietnam War veteran too based on what was shown of him in BCS.

Nearly every one of Mike's lines is iconic, because he says so little.
The junkyard scene when they test the magnet is brilliant, just because Mike is so sceptical. His 'Miller time' line is hilarious.
Love how he gets part of his ear blown off and he just looks mildly annoyed about how it’ll look.

2:05 as somewhat satisfying as this moment is, it hurts looking back, knowing Heisenberg probably decided right then when he was staring at the ceiling trying to catch his breathe that one day, if he has even the tiniest excuse he’s gonna kill Mike himself.
I had not realized he aged so much from the beginning until the end of the series. You just have to love Mike...and always pray he is on your side in a fight.

Jonathan Banks is arguably the most underrated actor ever. Thanks to this great actor, Mike Ehrmantraut is one of the most iconic badass characters to ever grace the screen, big or small.

Man it's wild seeing BB Mike juxtaposed against BCS Mike. He's far more ruthless and capricious in BB. Still definitely seems like he has remorse, but doesn't mull over murking people on the spot like he does in BCS.
