Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

And to think that this character was created by accident. The behind-the-scenes story goes that Saul was originally supposed to be the Cleaner when Jane died in BB. It's not cocaine in the sneaker., but doesn't have to be. I think there's a scene before where he buys some pills from his vet buddy. All Mike is trying to do is set the sniffer dogs at the boarder off. The smell could be anything 'druggy'. So long as it's a drug like smell in a place where druggy smells shouldn't be, like on the metal step at the back of a truck. Once the dogs showed interest, the Boarder cops would investigate fuller and that's the mission objective.
