I wish you would have made this video a year ago! I have an 02 Camry with just over 260k miles with the same check engine code. I ended up just replacing the catalytic converter with a cheap one. Still running great!
I own a 2004 Toyota Camry LE 2.4L, and I love how well it runs. In the months I've owned it, it has only misfired once. I had to replace my spark plugs, my valve cover gasket, and my second cylinder spark plug coil. Can confirm that 2002-2006 Camrys are the best.
Where I work part of my job is making service parts for Toyota, so I know what vehicles last. The battery clamp on that Camry is one of the parts I make. I still occasionally ship trunk hinges for late 90's Avalons and radiator support brackets for the 97-01 Camrys. I love making parts to keep these vehicles on the road. We also supply service parts for Honda, GM, Ford and Chrysler.
@@louarmstrong6128 He mentioned Avalons and Camrys specifically. Also, by which parts he talked about, you know what those cars are going to need when they get old!
@@louarmstrong6128 The Camry, Avalon, Tacoma, Tundra, Accord, Odyssey, MDX. The orders are smaller for Ford and GM. We make Crown Vic bumper beams and the mounts we call crush cans. Radiator supports for the older Ford Focus. A few Ford explorer beams. The most shipped for GM would be the radiator supports for the 99-06 Chevy CK pickups and SUV.
@@Megatron995 battery clamp brackets are pretty common items, along with bumper brackets, bumper retainer strips, stabilizer bar brackets, wheel opening brackets. A lot of things you don't see unless there are repairs from a accident. There are right and left side parts and interestingly enough, vehicles must get hit on the driver's side more often because I ship more of those parts. What's funny is I'll look up the parts on eBay and if they have a picture of the part in the bag with the bar code sticker I can tell by the Julian date when it was made by me. I tell my employer they are lucky I'm not like Johnny Cash or I'd be taking parts "one piece at a time" and making some extra cash...
I love my '02 camry! Japanese built neglected by previous owners, bought it for $2k with 200k mi., no leaks and doesn't burn oil. And runs well after performing all the routine maintenance & flushing all the fluids. Owned it for 3yrs, changed the oil every 5k mi. Ironically, my steering wheel squeaks the same way😆😆😆 It's the best daily driver I've ever owned.
2002/2003 were bad years for engine head bolts stripping and falling out and then you have to spend a couple grand on new heads or a rebuilt engine! 2007-2009 were bad years for VVT system failures along with massive oil leaks that were expensive to fix! The best years were 1997-2001, 2004-2006, 2010 and newer! I picked out a 2.4 liter 2006 SE trim, which comes with upgraded suspension and 4 wheel ABS disk brakes, for my aunt with 170,000 miles and it's an excellent car!
I got the same exact car same year 4 years ago $1,200 went through me and my brother 300,000+ miles. All I did was change the oil. this things bulletproof!! Oh and mine was a V-6
I got a 2005 Camry, 3.0 V6 135,000 km just over a year ago. In amazing shape, $7500 CAD and full service history (old man car). Runs great, oil barely changes shade between 3000 mile changes. My only complaint is it's worse on gas than my 1.6L 4-cyl Kia, but the extra *oomph* is sure a lot of fun. Gets about 20 mpg city, and I haven't had it on the highway yet. Going to probably be my car for the next 10 years at least so long as gas stays reasonably priced.
You know what. 7500 for a car that’s 15 years old. It tells you a lot. I was looking for a bmw 3 series and just for a comparison. With 7500 I think you can probably buy 2-3 of those bmws from the same year lol. Man toyota holds it value.
You may have over paid by about a $1000 on that one but at 135,000 Km, they're still brand new. It will do over 500K Kms easy. Those V6s are some of the best V6s ever made and will last a really long time if taken care of. If I were you, I'd get that Timing Belt Changed as soon as possible since its 15 years old now.
@@Boebus666 Depending on trim level, condition, service history etc. And from someone with 26 years auto industry experience, there is no such thing as a set vehicle value, a car is worth what someone is willing to pay.
@@KnightIndustries572 Exactly, it's always going to depend on the condition of the car too... Generally speaking, the nicer and cleaner the car is, it will be priced higher, but sometimes you can get lucky and some people will sell a car cheaper than what it's worth because they are very motivated or they just don't really know what their car's true value is...
Just bought an 06 Camry with 223k miles for $2100. As far as I can tell, it’s running great and rides smooth! I’m not mechanically minded so I’ve been binging a lot of your videos just trying to learn. Here’s to hoping it can go the distance!!
Bought this car a few years ago in mint condition for 6000. It was garage kept and everything was maintained on time with all the paper work and maintained at Toyota. Very low mileage for a 04 with only 80,000 miles on it. Still runs like a clock!
Same here. 05 MT Corolla. Needed complete paint job Front reinforcement bar is bent Aftermarket bumper Left plastic pillar is out Burned hard plastic steering wheel Windshield fluid gasket is cracked MT oil is dirty Carbon deposits builds up And so on.... I wanted $3,000 and no one bite it. Sold it for $1.5k and was happy. I had good time (my first ever MT) with it but I don’t really miss it.
My mother has a 2003 Corolla she bought new. That car has never needed any work done except normal maintenance , brakes, exhaust and tires. It doesn't even have any rust problem underneath which is incredible since it has seen many winters in the North East.
My Kentucky built 03 with 249k miles has actually need a lot of work, ac currently has a leak. Catalytic converter is bad, replaced CV axle, rack and pinion, wheel bearing on front left, radiator fan motors, radiator, thermostats, water pump, window motors are weak, rubber on the windows is messed up. Also replaced lower control arms and exhaust manifold gasket Engine was replaced at 150k, I'm guessing it became an oil burner. Hoping to upgrade to a 2017 Camry soon though.
I'm playing solitaire while listening to you. At 3:13, you talk about the struts going out. Just as you hit the breaks, a commercial came on solitaire; it's one for a video game. The commercial starts out with a loud bang, so you hitting the brakes with an explosion in the background made me double take so I could be sure that you didn't just hit the stop sign.
I have an 94 Camry, paid 2100 for it almost four yrs ago. It had 189k miles then, has 240k miles on it now. This has been the best car I have ever owned. Easy to work on, pretty cheap to work on, good on gas, I have no complaints. Thanks for making this video, I love my Camry!
Just bought a 2002 camry with 206k miles no dents, great paint, interior is in great shape.. Runs smooth as silk, doesnt burn oil. no check engine light, everything works. Im 3rd owner
Those Toyota and honda run forever, I seen them with over 300k and still running strong. I got a honda accord 2004 220k runs great passes Inspection every year no problems. And that's not my first one with high miles.
I love the 7th Gen Accord. They're great fun to drive and the interior quality is great. I have an 8th Gen Accord [2008] and the plastics used in the Interior feel really cheap, like the Early 2000s Civics, and they're not as fun to drive as the 7th Gen. And weirdly the 7th Gen's seats are more comfortable.
I don’t remember when was the time my dad passed his Camry to me, and he told me that, when this car breaks down, he will buy me a brand new mustang, now I am 27 and just have had a baby, I am planning to pass this Camry to her, so I can buy other one
I actually love this gen camry. The XLEs were beautiful, they had super nice features like leather, wood trim, rear sunshade for the back window, alloy rims, fog lights, heated seats, nav. Very nice. I have the Lexus version 2006 ES330 which is even nicer, the one like your wife’s but mine is LOADED with POWER rear sunshade, heated AND COOLED seats, mark levinson premium audio, chrome rims, sport suspension, auto rain sensor wipers, touch screen navigation with voice command, it’s a beautiful car. Mine has 232,000 miles it is flawless and rides like buttery smooth brand new. I do have the check engine light cuz of the DAMN P0430 code for the catalytic converter but it runs flawless and it doesn’t affect the drivability of the car.
I liked this gen as well they were reliable, if I was 17 in 2003 would had bought a Camry LE over Accord LX. 2020: 200,000 miles runs like new. PROS: RELIABLE AND FUEL EFFICIENT. CONS: NONE OVERALL RATING: GOOD car no issues (normal wear and tear items), it's a Toyota... Oh What a Feeling a happy customer still driving his 2003 Camry.
owen k yes I did, I took it to a Toyota/Lexus specialist in my area (Toyworx of Grover Beach CA) and they said about $1000 for each bank, I needed both bank 1 and 2 so they quoted me $2000. Very disappointing to hear😂 I still have not done it yet
Ramon Carter same I’m still in my first car , my Lexus ES330 and I absolute love it. I bought it 2 and a half years ago at age 16 for $5000 with 180,000 miles, it was a one owner car and absolutely pampered and taken care of and serviced, now 2.5 years later I have 232,000 on it and it’s been flawless except for the catalytic converters.
Had a Toyota back several years ago, and hated the way it drove. Fast forward to 2018, and I came into a 1998 Camry for free. My BMW lease was up, so I figured I would drive the Camry until I got a new car. I didn’t like it much initially, but it grew on me. I wound up driving it for about a year and a half, and it got me everywhere I was going. Only needed to replace the spark plugs, alternator belt, and a can of freon in all that time. Along the way, I discovered Scotty’s channel, and his love for the old Toyotas. Since I live in the snow belt, and want AWD, it motivated me to get a 2011 Lexus IS250 AWD that he’s also featured for a low price that I paid cash for. Love it! Drives like a European car, but has so far done me great in terms of service. For the first time in more than 20 years, I have no car payment, am in a great driving car, and laugh all the time. Couldn’t be happier!
I just picked up an 02 Camry LE with the 4 cylinder at 214K for $700, even has a new AC compressor and starter, paint is shot but for the price it's perfect!
Yes!!! I love my 2006 Camry. Yes, the clear coat will peel. The trunk smells moldy, but no leaks. The headliner will start to fall. Hands down this is the best Camry ever. I love this generation! A lot of car buyers are looking for this generation, but owners are keeping them.
I have the exact same car with 285,000 miles and stll running strong. Still running strong paid $2,200 back in 2107 at 240,000 miles. Toyota quality and reliability 💪💪👍👍
Couldn't find a Camry in my area but did find a 09 Corolla with 65 thousand miles, One owner with 5 speed manual stick in mint condition for 2000$ Canadian. I've been driving this car for 4 months and amazed how well it runs and how good it is on gas . It's the first Japanese car I've owned and I'm really impressed considering it's almost 12 years old.
I just bought 2003 camry 5 speed a few months ago with 114,000 runs great. Love the 5 speed. Went right through inspection paid 2500. I also have a 2002 camry auto with 240k on it had it for 18 years still runs fantastic. Changed starter oxygen sensors, plugs, everything else is original. I also have a 2002 camry v6 with 87k runs perfect like brand new never changed any thing but oil brakes and belts.
I totally agreed. I bought this car $1800 in 2017 with 182k miles. I used it for delivery & I added 63k miles in one year making it 245miles. I sold it for $1500 even with a dental in the trunk. This car can run forever the only thing I did was oil change every 3weeks because I was driving 5k miles in every 3weeks.
I used the lacquer thinner method too; shut off my catalytic codes twice and they worked both times. Just put 1 gallon in for 6 gallons of gas, drive it on the highway, should go off soon.
Hey Scotty, I remember watching your Chanel for the first time back in 2017 (at that time I owned a 2015 Nissan Altima) I didn’t know about their transmission problems. Sure enough my transmission started rattling at 75xxx miles on the car. I recently got a better job and decided to do something nice for myself. I sold my Altima and went down to the Toyota dealership and bought a 2020 corolla hatchback with a 6-speed. I wanted to say thank you for converting me and being honest. I appreciate all your har work you do for us regular people. Thanks Scotty, Gage
Back in 2015 I bought a used 2005 Toyota Carrola. It had 79,423 miles on it. The only major repair I had fixed was a leaking water pump, but besides that, all it needed was oil changes. Now today it has 119,000+ miles and still runs well.
lol i have this exact car and im almost at 300,000 miles, original engine, it's been through 2 car crashes but looks normal and drives with absolute zero problems
I just bought an 03 camry thanks to your video. This one's got 366,000 miles but still starts and runs great. Steering wheel squeaks, struts are shot, power stuff works. I paid a bit more but if they last this long, it should be worth it
I bought a 2003 Toyota Camry LE 4 banger (paid a grand), 226,000 miles original everything except alternator and struts. Had it since January as my daily driver to school and it hasn’t let me down. Love my Camry; nevertheless, I’ll be giving it to my father because he bought a 2006 Acura TSX (177,000) from the original for me. It was fun driving the Camry💯.
holy crap, i been working on cars 33 years, i didnt know they make a bypass thing for them rear AC units that leak, i been getting 800 dollars to fix, hey, wait, i better forget i learn this.
I have my Dad's old 2002 v6. He passed away from cancer and I inherited it. It's one of my best cars I have ever owned. Pickup is great in it and I got a new macco paint job for $400. Looks and drives brand new.
I have a 2005 & 2006 Toyota Camry 3.0 V6. Scored them for $4500 & $5000 a few months ago. Got them both with around 98K miles on them. Spent under $600-$700 on each to make them near perfect. They needed a set of tires, Exhaust work on one "flex pipe broke" Refreshed suspension parts. I LOVE these cars. V6 engine is more fun than the 4 Cyl. Very STRONG acceleration and smooth. It does have a timing belt but it is non interference so it can wait. No tpms! just an old school very reliable care free driving vehicle.
I bought a 2003 like that last summer except mine is blue, has 145,000 miles on it and I drive it 90 miles a day to work and back. I love it. I still have my 1990 Camry I bought in 1991. It still runs. Just be careful of the ones built from 2007-2009. I think the 2003-2005 maybe 2006 were really good cars.
My grandparents bought a 03 Camry brand new. For Christmas of 2012, my grandma gave it me.... with 40k miles on it! Now it's only got just under 140k. Zero issues with the motor, tranny, or ac.
Two years ago bought my college son a 2004 w/ 60k that literally was only driven by an old lady to church. Paid $4k (spotless with leather seats) but he should be able to drive the car conservatively forever.
1994 Toyota Celica for $600.00 on Craigslist; is it worth it. You dam Skippy it is! I own one and so glad i bought it. BEST car that I have owned. Over 366,000 miles on the odometer to prove it.
Got an '04 Solara (2.4L 4-cyl) two months ago after Scotty's approval. Car's in great shape, only 76k miles. A week later: "Here's the worst engine Toyota ever made: The 2.4L 4-cylinder"
I was aware of its excessive oil-burning issues. But got a really good deal on this relatively low-mileage, well-maintained car. But Scotty never said anything about it being the "worst" Toyota engine when I asked him lol. I think he found out a week later.
Got an 06 camry with 89k miles. It looked ugly as all hell but rides smooth with no problem so I started working on it. Change headlights, added foglight, front lip and side skirts. Gonna keep building it
Picked one of these up for 1500 bucks. SE model with a manual transmission 279thousand miles. Burns some oil, about 1qt every thousand miles, but I've sunk nearly 50 thousand miles into it in the past year and I've ran into absolutely no mechanical issues. If you want a car that gets you from point a to point b, this Camry is definitely the way to go 👌.
We had a 2003 Camry LE. GREAT CAR. We bought it used in 2011. The clear coat started coming off just like this one. Well not quite as bad. Reliable! It has about 160,000 miles on it. We gifted it to our daughter. She immediately drove it to Florida and back to Iowa. No issues. We bought another Camry a 2017 SE in December 2019 with only 8600 miles on it....which was totaled by a Hail storm in April. Yea that bad. Believe it or not our insurance company gave us High blue book for that car and we then bought a 2017 Camry LE with only 3900 miles on it. Camry's are boring but reliable!!!
Had the 05 Camry 4 banger had it for 180,000 not one major issue for almost 10yrs... what an amazing car. I’d recommend it for anyone looking for car on a budget

Thanks to scotty. I decided to keep the 2001 avalon. With 110000. Miles on it. Runs and looks great.
Thanks Scotty!
What parts do you make for Acura RSX 2003?🤔
Bill King.....so what cars last?
When the wheel squeaks on the Camry, it's kinda funny.
Squeaks on a Chrysler "these things were made like crap."

Yeah i think you overpaid by like 1 or 2 thousand for that😬
@@Boebus666 Depending on trim level, condition, service history etc.
I just sold my 05 Corolla for $1500 bucks. Loved that car!
Same here.
05 MT Corolla.
Needed complete paint job
Front reinforcement bar is bent
Aftermarket bumper
Left plastic pillar is out
Burned hard plastic steering wheel
Windshield fluid gasket is cracked
MT oil is dirty
Carbon deposits builds up
And so on....
I wanted $3,000 and no one bite it. Sold it for $1.5k and was happy. I had good time (my first ever MT) with it but I don’t really miss it.
Why would you sell that bulletproof car
@@Slenderman63323 I sold it and bought a nicer Honda Accord. I know it's not as reliable but needed a bigger car.

I drive 2008 Camry 110k miles I absolutely love it.
I got my Toyota Camry 2003 for $300. Its my first car. It needed some tune ups... but it works like a dream!!!
My 2003 is still going... 395,000 miles later
Thank you Scotty. A very appropriate video for me now since I can barely afford $1,500!! Also, I dig on Toyotas. Scotty, you're an angel.

I love the 7th Gen Accord. They're great fun to drive and the interior quality is great. I have an 8th Gen Accord [2008] and the plastics used in the Interior feel really cheap, like the Early 2000s Civics, and they're not as fun to drive as the 7th Gen.
Did you ever get a quote on fixing/replacing the catalic converter?
I love the bright instrument cluster too. Everyone who drives my car says, it's too bright, but I love it.
I liked this gen as well they were reliable, if I was 17 in 2003 would had bought a Camry LE over Accord LX.

CONS: NONE

owen k yes I did, I took it to a Toyota/Lexus specialist in my area (Toyworx of Grover Beach CA) and they said about $1000 for each bank, I needed both bank 1 and 2 so they quoted me $2000.
My family owns 3 of these, a 2002, 2003, and 2006 😁
Had a Toyota back several years ago, and hated the way it drove.
I have an 02 Camry with 286k automatic and a 03 Camry with 177k manual both are excellent and very reliable.

I used the lacquer thinner method too; shut off my catalytic codes twice and they worked both times. Just put 1 gallon in for 6 gallons of gas, drive it on the highway, should go off soon.
Hey Scotty,

Sure enough my transmission started rattling at 75xxx miles on the car. I recently got a better job and decided to do something nice for myself. I sold my Altima and went down to the Toyota dealership and bought a 2020 corolla hatchback with a 6-speed. I wanted to say thank you for converting me and being honest. I appreciate all your har work you do for us regular people.
