Now it have 83k miles just got the coolant changed, oil change and other basic maintenance. Overall it’s a amazing car! Just take care of Toyota and Toyota will take care of you!

You give me a lot of hope, I bought a 99 Camry with 185k miles and a recent inspection. I heard the fourth gen is bulletproof, but I have no key to test it. My ignition cylinder comes in soon, hopefully it's as reliable as your son's 🙏 It looks like it was well maintained.
I have a 2007 Camry and it’s still working with about 200k miles. I’m currently trying to do the maintenance but it’s so expensive but I know I need to get these things done to keep it up.
I’ve got 234k miles on me. This Gen has some issues, but is still overall a really solid car. And if you go the extra mile with maintenance and repairs, you can keep them riding like new, even at high mikes! I’ve done: all 4 stuts (with friends, not a shop) and end links Power steering rack and pinion + inner and outer tie rods All of the fluids have been changed Plugs, valve cover gasket…try to stick to OEM on this stuff Runs great! It’s a treat to drive, even at 234k miles. Hopefully in a few years I’ll be saying the same about it at 334k!
I wouldn't really call any of those "issues" but rather "wear and tear" and "maintenance" items (except maybe for the valve cover gasket but that's pretty easy). Is the following Gen better somehow?
Hi , I live in South Australia, I bought a 1999 camry with a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder with only 132000 kilometres 3 and a half years ago now it's 210000 kilometres, I met someone who has the same model with 700000 kilometres, I asked him how, he said he's been all over Australia with it , he always used good quality oil because Toyota camry engines glug up with cheap oils he owned the car from new.
@Milly HAHA nice I do change the oil religiously with synthetic, and since around 200k also do the trans fluid & filter every few oil changes to keep it nice and clean. Have only done the timing belt once though around 200k haha (non-interference engine) but am probably going to do it all again soon.
I have a 2003 Camry. Since it was new, we have replaced the water pump, and the drive belts, and brake pads. That’s it other than oil and fluid changes. Get an ABS version though … 2003 was last year that some Camrys lacked ABS.
Scotty I watch your channel everyday. I 72 and live in Mass and run a small used parts yard. I just watched your 02 camry check out ,with hood problem. What you did not mention on just about all toyota's. You have to oil the hood latch and safety catch. As you showed in video hood did not latch and most important safety was probably frozen. Very BIG safety problem. Thank you Larry
I'm the owner of the car in the video. The hood of the car does latch closed all the way. You just have to slam it closed otherwise it wont latch closed all the way. Its slightly bent but still closes.
Mr. Scotty, you suggested getting and air pump and a basic tire repair kit but I thought, "When was the last time I had a flat?"' Well, on Saturday we had two flat tires! Luckily it was on the morning we we leaving to see our daughter in college! But it cost 50.00 to fix them (by roadside assistance) and it took almost 2 full hours! I've learned my lesson! Thank you for the sound advice! Robert
You. Are. Right. About. The. Windshield. Thanks for saying that Scotty. I got one of the cheap ones. 2000mi later, busted again. I warned them repair company when I bought it. They used O.E.M. 2nd time.
I'm fixing a few things on my '02 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo "WJ" 4.7-V8 (4x4 but limited to 2WD because front drive shaft is missing) Suspension: 4 shocks Front and rear sway bar bushings/links, Upper and lower control arms in front & rear, front outer tie rod ends, front/rear coil springs & upper/lower for front/rear coil spring insulators. Possibly front and upper control arm ball joints. Steering: Steering Stabilizer, Tie Rod Ends, Pitman arms, power steering gear/pump & filter, flush and bleed. Swap out coolant for OEM hoat coolant and bleed it, swapping power steering fluid for OEM during flush. Electrical work: For wiring in the doors so the windows, mirrors and locks work, installing new power outlets, diagnostic analysis of a parasitic drain of the 12V battery. Possibly changing out the O2 sensor and harness. I may have to fix the rear hatch window and rear hatch wiper, windshield wipers replaced. This Jeep is a gas hog but runs great other than suspension issues and windows not working. 220k miles and engine and trans is still going good. Oh I'm rewiring the electric fan thermostatic switch controller and adding a 40A 4pin relay, an inline 30A fuse and setting up a manual toggle switch as an override that allows temp sensor to start fan independently of the manual switch that's key on powered.
6:53 Talking about Transmission Solenoids I recently replaced Solenoids and transmission filter on a 4Runner 98. Slipping in first gear (0-5 MPH) was solved. So if you have a Toyota thinking is the whole transmission you might think twice before changing the whole thing
As an avid Toyota enthusiast I wish they had rust proofed their trucks in the 2000s the same they did with the cars. Had a 2000 tundra with a split frame.
The late 1990's - mid 2000's was when Toyota's quality was at its highest. The 2005-06 Camrys were solid cars. Still drive my 05 Camry LE that i bought used in 2009. Over 19 years old now and over 350,000 kms. No issues. Toronto Canada
I had an 02 4-banger Camry that died in a freak accident in April. It was a stick shift model (pretty rare) and I spent months trying to find another 2002-2006 stick shift Camry to replace it. Finally found one, it turned out to be another 02. And I'm back to the same gas mileage as a year ago, 36-38 MPG, mostly rural highway driving. Now the old one WAS one of those oil burners. This new one... not had it long enough to assess it. I'm still using the oil that came in it, and have found that it has used some, but not as quickly as on the other car. Time to change it out and see how it does fresh.
Mother in law has a 2003 Camery, she started hearing a knocking not too long ago and it turned out that a rod failed, her mechanic contacted Toyota about getting a replacement and the response was that they said she should buy a new car. Mechanic found a replacement at a junk yard.
I had 2005 Toyota Camry and it was so phenomenal, 4cylinder and it was best gas Miliage car I ever bought and so smooth , it was meticulously maintained by previous owner and later sold it and today , I regret that. It was best daily driver beater, yes there dull and kinda boring but phenomenal daily’s . I currently drive my 86 manual so I’m happy as is. Just buy what makes you happy and better if doesn’t break the bank. Love dampher references on the trunk , you had me cracking that moment 😂
I could understand your concern if he was using duct tape on connecting rods or the fuel tank. However, a sunroof or center console does not raise any red flags for me.
Duct tape is not necessarily the best option for all of the things it was used for hear, but some people are not smart enough to come up with better fixes, or just going to a junk yard and finding a better part as a replacement. It also helps to use products that protect the interior from sun damage, waxing every once in a while and similar. My 2000 Toyota Avalon looks and drives no older than 3 years, with only 2 minor and tiny dents, because I clean it out often, and take care of it! I have 160,000+ miles on it.
167k on my 2019 Camry XSE. Third set of tires, one quick strut and a pair of front bearing hubs. Has electrical gremlins, but can drive it from Florida to California and back right now after a quick oil change. Still looking for the gremlins though...
I biught a 2015 camry se with 21k miles for 22k, at first I felt like I got stiffed. But then I see these videos where I am reassured that sure I paid a lil extra. But i wont have to worry about my car for a very long time.
That Camry has headrests like they should be made. My 2017 Camry has those one that are at a stupid and dangerous angle, forcing the driver and front passenger to crane their heads forward, causing an unnatural bend in their necks. I turned the driver's side headrest around and added a neck rest cushion in front of the headrest portion. I know it won't help much in an accident, but it had to be done. I also bought a universal fit headrest that has a DVD player built into it. It's illegal to use the DVD player in traffic, if it can be seen, but I don't want it for that purpose. I still need to install it, though. A friend has one in their car. It's really comfortable, because it's at the correct angle. -The front of a headrest/head restraint should be exactly in line with the back of the car seat, to maintain correct postural alignment. (Postural assessment and ergonomics is part of my personal trainer certification.)
@@oreally8605 I am referring to V6 full size sedans. Like the 2022 Nissan Maxima they make similar HP figures as the TRD Camry. Also the 2020 Chevy Impala and the base model charger makes around the same horsepower.
How come we don't hear about Toyota Cressida a lot? Why was it not popular in the United States, other than being a rear-wheel drive? It's like the #1 car in the Middle East.
I absolutely LOVE the reference to Pelosi when he mentions "dishonest people". I doubt there is a more dishonest swamp beast in D.C. right now (or possibly ever).
I had a great story to say about may 12 2022 I brought a 2005 Toyota camry XLE for six thousand dollars its hads about 129435 miles it's white and fully loaded with leather seats electronic climate control sunroof ice cold air conditioning build in Kentucky and its hads a 4 cylinder engine and it because to a couple that my mother in-law knew in New Jersey a Jersey car it even hads a owner manual also a rear spoiler it hads been taken care of by the first owner's then the second owner's and I had no problems with the Toyota camry XLE I heard a lot of Toyota's scotty Kilmer recommend to buy and thanks to scotty for the advice on buying a Toyota and am keeping this car for life
I swear my 2004 Camry is more solid feeling than my 2013. Don't get the feeling it will ever where out which is bad news because I said once it is done I am buying a 4 runner. Now 4 runners have gone up in price.
Save yourself a bunch of money, get a 4 cyl engine (if you can find one) it has a timing chain. Prior to 06 or 07 the 6 cyl had a timing belt, after that it was a timing chain.
I had an aftermarket sunroof that flew off of my car... googled around and turns out there was a recall on that particular model. I ended up getting a free replacement,
I'd go to a pick n pull yard in PA get a new hood. Change it there give them the damaged hood for metal. Drive it till the wheels fall off. That will be long time from now.
hey scotty! i have a 1999 rav4 2.0l same engine as the camry i believe. sunroof flew off on the mass pike . i put put some sheet metal with caulking rivets no leaks! 198k miles still runs like a champ. daily driver. great cars!
Good point. Our son has our old 2005 Camry that is due for one. Can be pricey but good for another 100,000 trouble free miles. Keep fresh oil in them and they will go. Camry is the Glock of cars.
I was right there with you til the hybrid part. My 07 Camry hybrid had 466,000 kms when I finally got rid of it and someone else is still driving it after that. Almost all original including all the hybrid parts.
Hey Scotty have a 95 everything works on just needs paint old distributor 2.2 all original under the hood just did motor mounts and front axles 188,000 timing belts 2 in the last 100,000 or so unbelievable gas mileage 40 + even the sunroof works luv my camry🤣interior perfect only 1 2 inch rip lower back drivers seat shooting for 500,000+.
Well Scotty happy late 69th!! You don't look at it at all! I wake up every day hoping that you're on my feed because you because you teach me so much in my automotive and diesel mechanic schooling. I learned more than you would ever know from your own mouth!
Haha. my 2007 Camry has 275ish thousand miles. and it’s running terrible gasket leak timing really off. Revs to 5thousand rpm when I barley start going. Revs to 3rd when startsLong story short needs a new engine. BUT gets me everywhere most reliable car ever
By the time the code comes on it's too late. Preventative maintenance keeps that light off full time. bad struts can also perform like good struts when they're really bad.
My parents had a 1995 3.0 V6 transmission always shifted like new up until rust stared taking it's tole about 3 or 4 years ago at 305,000 miles and they traded it in for a 2015 corolla. Lol
Must disagree. I have a V6 Camry 1994 it is is one of the best cars I have ever owned, would drive it anywhere. Not kidding you drives like new, NO rust . Michigan car just taken care of. Last time I checked 34 mph mixed driving (city and highway). I have put all new struts and timing belt(myself) Otherwise not much but regular maintenance. And as a bonus it is a 2 door😊
My camry blew a headgasket at 145k I got a VW jetta it went 193k and was still running good when I traded it for a passat 3.6 which so far has been very reliable.
@@wholeNwon no truer words spoken. I've owned (and still own) a number of VW mkII, MkII, MkV and there are 2 types of VW on the road - the lemon you buy new that gets everything fixed between 25,000km and 100,000km and then gets traded in out of exasperation; or the one you buy used at 100,000km then runs to 400,000km dirt cheap. ifykyk.
I've been saying it for years. Toyota's quality has dipped significantly starting in the 2000s and newer. I had three (oldest was a 2005 and newest was a 2016) and the last one (2016 Corolla) was the biggest, rolling pile of junk I ever owned. And it was as slow as a tortoise. After I junked the Corolla, I ended up in a one owner, low mileage Kia Forte5 and it's been a great experience. Haven't been to the shop once for repairs, just for maintenance. It's a great car.
Why are you upset that a Toyota Corolla is slow? Do you have pudding for brains? They're meant to be reliable and not necessarily exciting. You must be one of only a few people who have had reliability issues with a Toyota.
The 04 camry I have 2.4 has 324.000 still rolling transmission little wonky 45 or so but other than suspension rattle it goes and goes outside black still good no rust in ohio? Wow 19 yrs ole well scotty mechanic don't like em they don't break
Scotty, I have a Lexus like your wife's and a couple of times going through the car wash I got a small leak over the driver's side of the windshield. I was going to get it replaced (no place will remove & replace the same one) but decided to check the sunroof drains. One of them especially seemed plugged up. Cleared it out and no leaks since. I think the leak was coming from inside the car above the windshield, not through it. BTW the heavier week wacker line is perfect for this job, small enough yet stiff enough to go through the drain channel and break through any blockage.
Happy birthday Scotty ya old bastard! Love your videos. I joined the Medicare club this year. Still wrenching everything on my cars. Love your insights.
Wife has a 2020 Camry 4 cylinder SE, I have a 2011 V6 Camry SE with 230K miles. Would not trade my V6 for the 4 cylinder period. The new 4's are noisy and slow to shift, the V6 is just smooooth! With 230K it does not use oil and just goes.
What kills me is that my friend has a 2012 Prius C with 190k, still runs great, and the hybrid battery hasn't given her any issue's. She's had it since new
My old Accord has a jiggle'y trans. Change the fluid regularly. Will drive till the tranny goes. On my 1,200 mile trip lasts weekend, the Tesla drivers were all asleep in their cars at the rest stop charging stations. Try to keep up boys! Yes, not one female

Just buy what makes you happy and better if doesn’t break the bank. Love dampher references on the trunk , you had me cracking that moment 😂
Hondas last just as long
@@richsweeney1115 honda transmissions go out every 100k miles and they rust out everywhere
I'm all for not overpaying for your vehicle but a car being held together by duct tape is where I draw the line
Good. More options for me
Haha but he saved a dollar!
I have shoe laces tied together to hold my bumper up but here I am still driving my 2000 Toyota Solara😂
Belated happy birthday ,scotty best wishes !
Happy Birthday Scotty!! The KING!!!!
I had 2002 V6 camry - it did 30+ MPG on the highway.
They’re a lot better than their 2.4 Engines. I had an 02 Camry with that engine and it burned oil like crazy despite I totaled it at 299k miles. 😂
Whoppie
@@keithbellair9508 that’s only a few off of a 2020 Camry
Good afternoon Scotty from Chicago, hope you're having a great day BROTHER!! 🧰🙌👍
167k on my 2019 Camry XSE. Third set of tires, one quick strut and a pair of front bearing hubs. Has electrical gremlins, but can drive it from Florida to California and back right now after a quick oil change.
Still looking for the gremlins though...
You pump me up on Toyota so much ….and now you say don’t buy the V6 ‘…to late I have 2 4Runner’s for the family
I biught a 2015 camry se with 21k miles for 22k, at first I felt like I got stiffed. But then I see these videos where I am reassured that sure I paid a lil extra. But i wont have to worry about my car for a very long time.
You guys should look at Honda's, too..they've had issues some years, but so has toyota
Good lord jesus
TRD V6 Camry 301 hp for life Scotty! Some of us enjoy our driving.
Many full size sedans make about the same HP.
@@applepoop10 Not 4 cly- unless it's a $45k dollar WRX or something.
You will buy a shity electric gocart by 2030 and like it!!!
@@oreally8605 I am referring to V6 full size sedans. Like the 2022 Nissan Maxima they make similar HP figures as the TRD Camry. Also the 2020 Chevy Impala and the base model charger makes around the same horsepower.
You are in excellent shape for your age Scotty, well done ...👍
Scotty is a SAVAGE, the amount of content he puts out is incredible!
Hence the Jeffrey Dahmer Reference, what a crazy insane show on Netflix...
I love you Scotty the best Mechanic of all times! ❤
If anyone has the the 1996-2001 Lexus ES300, send it my way. Those are great cars!
😂 what a loswr
How come we don't hear about Toyota Cressida a lot? Why was it not popular in the United States, other than being a rear-wheel drive? It's like the #1 car in the Middle East.
I absolutely LOVE the reference to Pelosi when he mentions "dishonest people". I doubt there is a more dishonest swamp beast in D.C. right now (or possibly ever).
Do you know who Republicans like Mitch McConnell are? 😂
@@aalmi002 You are an !D!0T if you think he is even HALF as bad as Pelosi.
Plus it's way easier (and cheaper) to change spark plugs / coils
@@Argedis Yep. I called a dealer for my V6 Toyota and they quoted $1500 for all new spark plugs and coils 😳
So many downsides getting the V6 compared to the 4cyl.
I had an aftermarket sunroof that flew off of my car... googled around and turns out there was a recall on that particular model. I ended up getting a free replacement,
Made in Japan 🇯🇵👍
The Best choice for ever
Cool video Scottie Semper fi from Tennessee man !
I enjoy my v6 Tacoma prerunner 👍🏻
My 92 4 runner original wind shield and drive train except rear diff runs perfect no chips
198k miles still runs like a champ. daily driver. great cars!
I believe there was a recall on that sunroof. Check it out and you could get a new one for free.
Also the 4 cyl has a timing chain instead of a rubber timing belt.

MY ideal daily is an old camry like this but they're so expensive. I just wish they would come down in price some
Bro my dude is 89!!! Looking phenomenal
If I had a choice, I would rather have a Good Air Conditioner instead of a Sun Roof. I know that Sun Roofs Leak most of the time.
Haha. my 2007 Camry has 275ish thousand miles. and it’s running terrible gasket leak timing really off. Revs to 5thousand rpm when I barley start going. Revs to 3rd when startsLong story short needs a new engine. BUT gets me everywhere most reliable car ever
I've never replace the windshield at all when I had my 2008 Toyota Camry.
By the time the code comes on it's too late. Preventative maintenance keeps that light off full time. bad struts can also perform like good struts when they're really bad.
Priceless information. Thanks Scotty. 💪🏾
Happy birthday scotty
Can you tell us what are the better vans to buy if you want to convert it to an RV?
My camry blew a headgasket at 145k I got a VW jetta it went 193k and was still running good when I traded it for a passat 3.6 which so far has been very reliable.
You'll need an extra measure of luck with the VW product but hope it works out for you.
@@wholeNwon no truer words spoken. I've owned (and still own) a number of VW mkII, MkII, MkV and there are 2 types of VW on the road - the lemon you buy new that gets everything fixed between 25,000km and 100,000km and then gets traded in out of exasperation; or the one you buy used at 100,000km then runs to 400,000km dirt cheap. ifykyk.
happy birhday scotty old school legend mechanic of the 60s
I got 259,000 miles on my 2001 Toyota Camry before I give it to my grandson, he loves it, and it's paid for,lol
We don’t have V6 Camrys in Europe. Only hybrids are offered in Europe.
“If you stay away from dishonest people”

The 97-2001 generation Camrys are still everywhere.
I have a 1988 Toyota Tercel with 204350 miles and it doesn’t use any oil at all

Wife has a 2020 Camry 4 cylinder SE, I have a 2011 V6 Camry SE with 230K miles. Would not trade my V6 for the 4 cylinder period. The new 4's are noisy and slow to shift, the V6 is just smooooth! With 230K it does not use oil and just goes.
What kills me is that my friend has a 2012 Prius C with 190k, still runs great, and the hybrid battery hasn't given her any issue's. She's had it since new
Well in hybrid ICE world Toyota hybrid r the supremacy against all other hybrid
