I’m just gonna say this again. I find it fascinating how the show uses the REAL police detectives and forensic specialists to reenact the crimes. And they do a great job! The victims and perps are actors, but almost all of the professionals are the real people. It must be surreal for them to reenact what they actually did with actors. They do so well, too!
I used to watch this show in the 90’s and now that I am old, I have a new appreciation for it. And I love how you young folk are enjoying it now! 😊

All of these shows were great, even for us young kids, and we never had these shows sensor end by all thes so called experts like today telling us what we can and can't watch for fear that these shows will turn us all into criminals and psychopaths and traumatized us for life, and look, our generation turned out alright!
I am 67 now, and never hurt a fly or a person along with most people I know! These super coddled kids today don't know that dangerous people like this exist, and they should! This would teach kids more about their surroundings than just talk! I lived it, I know and without a fancy Ph.D. In psychology or criminology, just street smarts!

Nothing you watch on TV will turn you into a " PHSYCPATH " trust me. I've been in prison for just under 5 n a half yrs, wheen what I was younger. I tried heroin when j was17, huge mistake. I quickly became a good person, making bad decisions. Any way I got to know the law really quickly. Not an expert but, to KNOW, HOW, "THEY" OPERATE!! Now, Steven avery got stitched up on the fist MURDER charge. Even though they knew it wasn't him, from the get go. That state and the others close to them is full of sick twisted people who are ( lets say from senators, that's the power!! Chiefs of police, that covers men in power with guns on the street!! right down to shop keepers ) when you have a murder the coroner on scene is the highest in command until the body has left. Fact!! In the history of that state anyway, it's the only time it's happened. Teresa halbach was sent pictures that weren't hers by a mistake!! They rang three times to get them back. She ever returned the 3 phone calls. The last phone call was the day before she died ( or apparently died ) here's what I think happened they got bobby dassy or his father to call to come down about a car that they were selling, and wanted photos taken of the car. They needed steven avery gone, ( REMEMBER, it may or may not be her remains. Someone called in and asked the POLICE operator about the girl that was found on the avery land, and asked was it TH. SHE SAID N.O it was a different woman, that's if I was listening properly. She lft that property and in my opinion there were people waiting to do the job ( as they have them for things ,I've that ) burnt the body, the rest is history. Just my opinion!!

"The New Detectives" has been my favourite crime show since early 90s, when it was first aired in my country, Romania 🇹🇩. I watch other great crime show programs too; "Medical Detectives", "FBI Files", "Forensic Files", "Behind Mansion Walls", "Deadly Women", "Ice Cold Killers", etc, but this one stands out in my preferences. Not only because of the actors, the directors, the editing, but also because of this wonderful narrator and the music. Thank you so much for each and every episode. PS: Please, don't say I'm a weirdo, I simply like police movies, films noir, mystery drama. Greetings from Romania 🇹🇩!

I know. That’s like the detective on the case of the murder for hire episode where the woman had her boyfriend and friends to beat her husband to death and set him alight in his truck. He checked her checking account and her DMV records. I have never heard of that being done but it put the entire case together. I honestly think that most detectives have a sixth sense about the people and crimes they’re investigating. I imagine the poor victim in the ear of the detective pushing him/her. Saying look over there and why do you think that would happen. I would so do that and I would haunt my murderer til he ran out into traffic, like in that movie Ghost with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze.🥵

Forensic science has become facinating and so very helpful within our lifetime, even though all the evidence is up to the laboratories to perform their duties that they were taught, to gather every little piece of evidence, study the evidence with a fine tooth comb that eventually brings all the pieces of the puzzle together. My hats off to these delligent, hard working

Actually the real "smart" aspect of said case was the judge throwing out the case for lack of evidence. If he hadn't, the innocent brother likely would have been railroaded and convicted. The fact that police hadn't known or even bothered to check if he had a brother after realizing the shoe impressions were slightly off was sloppy work.

I watched an episode of the Investigation Discovery Channel program Evil Lives Here dealing with Timothy Spencer. In it, they featured an interview with Spencer's younger brother. Timothy Spencer used his brother as "practice" for his sadistic crimes. It was clear that his younger brother loved him, and his account of what Timothy put him through broke my heart. He (Timothy) would tell his brother not to go down the road that Timothy had chosen for himself, but to live a good life and make something better of himself. Timothy's brother seemed like a really decent man who was trying to come to grips with what his brother had done.

A life so cruelly destroyed - a body exposed on an autopsy table. All that she was and could have been lost forever. So sorry for her husband. 15 year old Dawn - barely begun to live. Poor little soul. Sandra Thomas. And it goes on. Timothy Spencer less of a human being than those he hurt. Hope he burns in hell.

Kudos to that judge for dismissing the initial “evidence” submitted by the police, which forced them to work harder and dig deeper to find the real killer. Although I’m sure police typically do thorough detective work, it chills me to think how infrequently situations like this occur where the judge calls the police out on their jump to the easiest conclusion and sends them back to the drawing board. How many wrongfully convicted people there might be? That innocent man came so close to being locked up life, if only that judge had not demonstrated his critical thinking and played devils advocate. He/she are exactly the type of unbiased judge we need in this world.

Still learning interesting techniques that the new detectives work in these older cases. The saddest fact about watching these old shows is that even years after the invention of new technology it still isn’t being used in all cases. Not enough training of all staff who work a potential murder investigation. Everything from the first step on the crime scene to untrained medical staff working a murder even doing autopsies. In a recent Idaho case I learned in 2023 the coroner, was an EMT. Some places in Canada autopsies are done by a funeral home owner. These important jobs should be done by Medically trained staff . They should also be required to go to every scene ,not to rely on photos of the scene.

During my time there, I got to know him and we even jammed on guitar a lot. He'd give ice creams from commissary to me and others, sodas and stuff. He didn't seem like a bad guy, but he was racist AF. A mutual friend I made in there and I just knew he was dark somehow. I was surprised when I saw this and that he was so famous he even has a Wikipedia entry. Knowing what I know now and having met him, I still think the jury was too nice not giving him the death penalty. Dude murdered for no reason at all, he doesn't deserve to live his life out. I'll also say this, he's lucky he never got found out that his girlfriend who revealed him to police was 14 and he was 21. Dude would've been stabbed to death for being a creepo.
But yeah, was wild to see this and know what he really did.

I definitely think someone who is, for whatever reason, proven to be a serious danger to others should never see the light of day again. If you put an innocent person through hours of torture, and then finally kill them, how do we choose between humane execution for you or yonks of relatively comfortable incarceration at the taxpayer's expense? Sorry. Don't know the answer. I guess if someone is executed, you can't bring them back if you got it wrong, so maybe that is the acid test. ?????

Very good production, love the 90s vibe. Sad the theme is so grim.

How does one get raped & murdered in your own bedroom while your parents are home sleeping in bed like you were doing?! A killer could never get me until my bedroom moved from upstairs to downstairs where that definitely could've happened to me.....I just answered my own dang question, didn't I!

      Have to say that the narrator is quite good too; Guess the word "sophisticated' was in his script and he had to say it; sort of didn't seem part of the realm of killers though;
My daughter thinks they ought to produce a film, of an avid listener making COMMENTS DURING the films; might be hilarious.Wait a minute; Isn;t LAGUNA BEACH in Orange County and down South of LA ? Santa Cruise is near San Francisco etc. but there's a "NEARBY" Laguna Beach there too? Lived in Eureka and Daily City years ago; Redwood City; Nobody EVER mentioned Laguna Beach up north? what?
Have you tried "Maigret?" French investigator, travels to France , Bulgaria to England? OLD PLOTS COPIED by some of the later dated US shows, i.e. Columbo etc."
Yes, but I didn't like the word "SOPHISTICATED" added to describe how a murderer's mode of operandi CHANGES? What?
Makes us wonder WHY SO MANY of these ? Something's wrong Somewhere in our education system, perhaps ?
Nope. Never bothered me; But I do continually yell at the TV., NO NO DON'T GET IN HIS CAR! Nice perpetrators can now just press a button and LOCK ALL FOUR DOORS isnit it? Then I yell NO, don't pick up any HITCH-HIKERS? No, No, don't hide your key in that front yard flower pot for God's Sake ! Praying before bedtime must be a protective from NIGHTMARES!

I suppose before sophisticated forensic DNA analysis, blood group was the best you could hope for. I gather group O is very common. I admire the committed police work and the foresight to preserve samples and evidence that may only yield further information as forensic science advances. When someone is murdered, there is no way to bring them back. There are a few things you can do to honour their memory and what was stolen from them. Bringing the killer to justice and ensuring they are punished counts for a lot.

O is very rare yet it is the universal doner for all people.

O is actually the most common blood type. Followed by type A, then type B, then Type AB-the rarest! It is true O is the universal donor, but MDs prefer the recipient and donor be of the same type. In emergency situations type O is used but not without some risk and if possible plasma infusion can be used to increase blood volume etc.
