💡THINGS COVERED💡
1: Quick Check-In
- Going over the all previous steps to get to this point, plus touching base on the carriage bolt situation and thread locker. Because I didn't want any exposed threads underneath, the plans ended up changing to fix that.
2: Mid Build Weigh-In
- Keeping track of how heavy the setup is really makes things fun. Without knowing exactly how much weight has been added due to the heavy sound system and other aftermarket upgrades, periodic drop ins to the public scale help keep us informed.
3: Finishing Front Welds On Baffle
- When originally designing this subwoofer layout, I made sure to leave space to accommodate the angle iron that's mounted directly to it. Now that's it's final, the last beads can be laid down super thick without getting in the way of the flat mounting surface for the large wooden panel.
4: Installing Front of Enclosure
- The largest section to the outer layer of the cage gets attached first. Building it from the outside in keeps important lines visible, like markings where the steel frame is installed. Tracing around each of the tubes ensures the screws bite nice and strong.
5: Filling Inner Caged Squares
- To improve strength and increase wall density, every single square between metal framing gets filled with more wood. The plywood used is extemly rigid and stands up to abuse from loud stereo systems really well. Used a Harbor Freight chop saw to cut all the pieces. Best combination I've found for this are torx head construction screws, wood glue and tons of Loctite PL Max adhevise.
6: Making Floor Brackets
- Because standard pipe flange mounts won't work in this setup, a custom made bracket design for all 12 verticals was the only way to complete the job. Made them from 3" flatbar, cut to size on the abrasive wheel, drilled and countersunk for hardware, then rounded over the sharp edges and corners on the new benchtop grinder.
7: Marking Center of Plates
- By using a small plumb bob hanging below the cross supports on the baffle with magnets, precise measurements and brace spacing is easy to draw out on the floor by hand. It makes positioning from above dang near perfectly straight!
8: Flush Trimming Brackets
- Figuring out how to keep the enclosures bottom flat and smooth was also a tiny challenge. With a fresh mortising bit installed in the mini router, resessing the attachment points 3/16" wasnt hard at all for it. Very powerful tool!
9: Scoring Adhesive Fissures
- With 12 18 inch subs playing at full blast, there's going to be tons of built up sound pressure from the subwoofers flexing. So to help prevent any screws from pulling out of the holes, several grooves get cut into the bases to hopefully act as roots for more holding force. Each was sanded / grinded down to bare clean metal before putting in.
10: Attaching Steel Base Plates
- Gluing and screwing the brace plates down was a whole big long step in itself. Following a pattern of all 4 corners first, then torquing the center screws with a heaping pile of adhesive squirt in all the sockets . Hopefully this'll make things even stronger than normal.
11: Welding Vertical Braces
- To avoid burning the precious wood underneath, all welds against the floor plates needed to be 3 second bursts. Otherwise the scorching could possibly pit the mounting surface. I made 8 individual passes on the welder to create an evenly spaced line of welds around the base of the 1" tube. Then filled in those gaps with another 8+ welds to tie everything together.
AND THAT'S THAT!!! 😎

SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!! 😃 The bass build is looking great!!!!
Thanks for watching guys 📺
❤❤❤❤
Been here since the first van. Lol
I just want to say, it's crazy to see how your build skills have evolved over the years. Your just getting better and better.
Awesome ✌️
Looking great
Insane how much detail you have on this build. This build will be a show stopper. May sound strange from a random viewer. Proud of you for your persistence and drive you show in these videos.
👍✌️
I don't thi k it sounds weird at all myself... I have a really good buddy who explained a story too me it was right after his like 7 yr old boy was killed after being hit by car (cars fault) not only right in front of his house but in front of his entire family and he went into a truly dark depressed place and his wife could never accept it for what it was & simply only blamed him for it and they had a rather great relationship but she divorced him shortly after because she couldn't look at him without being reminded of her little boy so he was left without a child, without his wife and the other kids all in the very same exact house... well he was like zombie all medicated for a bit and had a fed-ex driver jump his shit saying he was an asshole & truly needed too figure out his life not knowing what he was dealing with just like not even month after it happened so he then lost his shit on dude and told him you never know what people are dealing with in their lives if your not close too them & how we all need too have a bit more compassion for others & ya just never know something as stupid as legit just smiling/talking 2 someone even asking how their days going can have a far bigger lasting effect than we may even knows possible and since that day its truly stuck with me and opened my eyes too ya we do never know and it meant even more too me after also dealing with a shit ton in my very own life and I sat there depressed and stuff and it was the little stuff that had biggest affect on myself in a positive manner so I constantly find myself trying too say something nice too a complete stranger almost daily infact...
As far as today goes, you really are a kind, caring person & after reading this comment it took me all of about .2 seconds too be okay in saying that... so cheers too brother & may your & yours have a blessed future & the world needs more people like yourself...
@@johnhallock2713 You are a gentleman and a scholar God bless you have a good day
MEANS ALOT TO ME MAN!!! Thank you 😊
In all the years I've watched EXOs channels - not a minute was wasted. Car audio, rc cars and ramps, backflip how-to, Sister visits, Helping mom with the old radio and YT channel, skating, shooting fireworks with/at dad. Free bass demos in the driveway, the cats and everything else. All the memories are amazing! I've enjoyed every moment. Thank you for all of your effort.
Great summary of some of the many awesome things we’ve seen on this YT channel over the years ✌🏼
All while going through a lot of loss and stress in his personal life. This guy has been through hell but stays positive and doesn't speak about his personal problems
This comment is exactly the kind of stuff I need to hear sometimes. You saying that really helps validate a lot of the crazy efforts over the years, thank you!!!
Old bass head checking in. I completely lost my desire for competition style bass as I've gotten older. Watching your videos has re-ignited that spark and I'm on the hunt for a vehicle to start a project with. Love your positivity and just the genuine good human vibes you project onto the camera. Keep it up! Look forward to the next!
That's how I feel after his videos. I've got my grand marquis still wired up but haven't had subs for years
bass heads never die.... we age like fine wine, saving it for special occasions....
What an inspiration, Jesse! Go for the gold, bro! This stuff goes way deeper than just music, seems like you're on board, too! 🙏
I would kill to have the amount of attention to detail, and patience that Exo has. Absolutely amazing
The fact you noticed makes my day! This stuff can be crazy detailed it's nutty.
It's funny yet awesome to see EXO start out from making vids in front of his folks driveway with giant signs saying "Honk if you love bass" or something along those lines, to probably creating one of the most awesome backyard project custom vehicle audio builds practically on his own as we watch his step by step process.
Much respect bro, can't wait to see and hear it all complete.
In his sweet mini van
You noticing the progression really makes me smile man. Wouldn't be here without the encouragement of people like you 🤙
As someone who does metal fabrication as a career, your attention to detail and quality workmanship make me smile from ear to ear. Everything looks beautiful and I can't wait to see the finished product!
RIGHT IN THE FEELS MANG 😊
Man, you are making every tiny aspect to this build as perfect as can be! It's absolutely beautiful!! It's gonna be an ANIMAL for sure!!
Don't let anyone's negatively get you down at all! Life's all about perspective and there's always a positive outlook on any situation! Keep it up EXO!
Appreciate the comment! Animal... That's for sure bro 😃 Thanks for dropping by tonight!
Never ever give up on your passion! Exo, you are almost single-handedly keeping all of us subscribers in this hobby! Your videos are worth all your time to us I can assure you that!
Heck yeah man, I'd like to think I help spread the love! Lots of great stuff out there too 🙂
This has to be my favorite series to watch on YT atm. The quality of the edit, the beats in the background, the attention to detail...
What more could you want. Loving the videos man. keep them coming. Its taking SOOOO long but damn its going to be so worth it in the end :)
If you like him, watch colin furze

Mega high five from me, bro! You're noticing all the extra efforts and that's warms my heart! Makes the countless hours of work all the more rewarding afterwards, thank you kindly!!! 😊
@@Xxmeca421xX I never said they were the same. They have the same excitement in their respective builds
I have been watching since I was 14/15(I’m 24 now). I bought a subwoofer before I even had a car because I was obsessed. I’m watching this before studying for a huge exam, it’s inspiring how much work you put into this and how perfect you make everything. Thank you for posting these
Hope you did well on your exam, Ryan! Appreciate you dipping in to leave a comment. You noticing the details makes me happy to put the effort in 🙏 Hopefully see you in the lanes someday, bro!
Dude....I've been doing this for 30yrs and to see this process really impresses me. Great job man.
Wow, that made me humbled to read! Very much appreciated man. Thanks for dropping a comment 😃
EXO thank you sir for just being you your energy and good vibes are contagious even through a screen. You have helped soo many of us that you cannot imagine, been battle cancer since late 2019 and just dealing with the residuals from surgeries, treatments and just the mental and physical warfare we have found it extremely difficult to keep pushing forward and staying positive. But thanks to videos like these that get us away from the negativity and helps us in our own builds, plans, and ideas it is like a reset to life and we shake it all off and continue to push forward with a great positive attitude. I look forward to seeing more videos man keep it up and God bless you!
Keep strong, Rodolfo 🙏 I'm really grateful to be able to provide some fun content to maybe help you escape the stress. That kind of mental legwork can be so draining, so I wish you nothing but the best my good sir 💪😀
@@EXOcontralto thank you so man I appreciate you big time and may God bless you! You help so many like myself that you dont even imagine we are super proud of you man cant wait to see the finished build.
The levels you are going too is insane. I've never even thought about half of the things you are doing. I can tell you've planned this out for years in your head. I cant wait to hear this when your finished. I see you as a serious competitor to some of these worls record holders
I'm on a build for myself nothing this big got months into it. Exo is a super pro
Means a lot to have you here man, you're noticing all the areas that go left unspoken and I commend you for it!
It's insane how much detail you're putting into this that no one will ever see unless they watch the videos. So much overkill but I love it. Plus you edit this and I can only imagine how much work that is. Amazing work
Thanks for the encouragement man, it really is! The details always get brushed under the rug in most big builds so I really wanted to expose the entire process as best as possible 😊
This is the one.
The view of all the braces along with the back closed up, it's all coming together.
Excited for the future of this build. ALL of this hard work is overwhelmingly appreciated.
Thank you.
I'm right there along with ya bro!!! Appreciate the comment
Don't worry EXO people can poke fun about what ever they want... You are doing what makes you happy, and that hurt their feelings because they can't. Keep up the hard work, the van is turning out awesome.👍
Amen man. I'm slowly coming to grips with that mentality, hard to understand sometimes, but people can be **** 😅
I don't know what the plans are for the rear wall but I hope you are incorporating some kind of thick plexy so you can see the bottom side. You put so much work into it, it would be a shame if no one gets to see it. Amazing job and keep that positivity flowing.
Man I've been thinking about that, but I don't know how I could make it work with the steel cage that's going to be incorporated
This just goes to show you how the average working person that loves bass can do it over time. I love the fact that the detail is there and you can see the ❤ that is in this build. Can’t wait to see it in person
This... 1000% See you soon bro! Thanks for the love 😀
Man it's rough in the world now days where everyone looks that that 1 negative out of 100 positives. Keep up the awesome content EXO, the build is literally on another planet with the level of detail and thought you have put into everything. From the aesthetics to planning its awesome!
Amen to that! Sometimes negativity so easily overwhelms positivity that you have to remember to remind yourself the opposite is true!!!
There is something to be said about someone who is willing to learn new skills to obtain a personal goal. Your an inspiration brother and I ALWAYS look forward to your uploads, personal life updates or bass wagon!
I'm totally on board with you, appreciate the comment Rob! I'll keep em coming!
Damn that nice. I'm getting excited seeing you build it. Can't wait to see it when done. Hopefully one day I'll even get the honor of getting a demo
I'm not much of a car audio guy, or an audio guy at all, but I'm glad I came across your channel. I love watching the build and your passion and enthusiasm.
Very cool, bro! Happy you enjoy watching the vids 😃
I've been in car audio since 1990. (Yes, I'm old lol) Building all of my own stuff, going to shows, bought hundreds of magazines, watched pros on youtube and I keep coming back to you. I've been watching you for years and I just love how much you've learned and progressed in that time. You are the real deal, real passion and you deserve the recognition. Love watching.
Your building style is so thorough and well thought out. Great job EXO
Glad you can notice the extra effort, Jacob! Means a lot to have you watching 😀
I have been watching this build from the start. I like seeing how everything is coming together. I cant wait to see it all finished up, and giving demos. Good work man.
MUCH APPRECIATED, JOEL!!! 🙏
Man!!! This build is so solid that all the negative energy from vehicle flex is gonna go straight to the tuning port.. that thing is going to hit insane db's!!!!!!!
Damn straight! Hopefully won't destroy the vehicle too fast in the process 😅
The truth is that I love these videos, I watch them always and every day I learn more from you, very good work, everything well treated and well managed. greetings from Argentina!! car audio lover
Your compliments make me smile, thank you so much!
This kind of build and energy is what keeps me going in building and doing audio reviews, your amazing thanks EXO!!!!!
Huge high five man! Thanks for saying that 😀
I realize I have been following your channel for the better part of 3 years now, and seeing the progress on this particular build puts a huge smile on my face. This episode is so satisfying cause I know you're in a groove and progress is motoring along (or at least it appears to be). You are confident in your approach and execution. Keep at it, I can't wait to see this whole thing buttoned up.
Hell yeah, Mike! It's all becoming too real now 😎 Thanks for being here!
"Let her have it til she splooges out the ends." 🤣😂 Your welding skill are on point. Your attention to details is amazing. Making Frankenstein look like child's play. Keep up the good work.
I admire how much attention to detail you put into this. It's almost therapeutic watching you build so methodically haha. Keep up the incredible work man, love your videos!
You and me both man, this is 100% therapy for me 😌 Thanks for dropping some kind words!!!
It's coming along nice. The effort you put into this build, is insane! Your work is great and never let someone tell you otherwise. We support you bro! 👍💯
So close I can feel it 😊 Appreciate the kind comment man!
EXO bro you rock. The work you are putting into this build is so impressive and definitely inspiring to see. Keep it up and can't wait to see what happens next. Thanks for the great explanation of what you are doing as well. Take care my friend ✌️
Shouldnt be long now!!! Thank you for checking out the vids
Man that last comment warms my heart…The time i’m following you and how much you have grown from the guy with some random woofers in a Astro van to the craftsman you have become…I really like to see you grow and prosper.. It is great to see you can do what ever you want to do and succeed at it.. Much love from the Netherlands and keep up the good work!
I never leave comments but I've been watching this channel and your videos since 2010 and have seen every build and the evolution of your builds and its so cool. I am not even actively into car audio anymore but i still follow your channel and this build. Cant wait to see it progress further
That's cool to hear, man! I find myself enjoying content all the time that I wouldn't ever imagine. Like random cooking channels or even gaming theories lol
EXO you just amaze me. Your so thorough with every step of this build. I am glad your taking your time and not rushing through this. This build is going down in history! I just hope and prey I will be able to get a demo some day!!!! Keep doing what you do!
Right there with ya, man! We gotta make it happen!!! You ever consider attending a show like Slamology in Indianapolis?
@@EXOcontralto yes I missed it last year. I live an hour and a half from indy. I go to cleetus and cars which is at the same venue as slamology.
@@EXOcontralto I am trying to get my system going. I'm on a small budget. But I was able to pick up a SIA 3500 sundown amp. I just don't know what speakers to match up. I want to run 4 12s or 2 bigger 15s. I'm not sure how to decide on what to pair up with the amp. I want to have some air movement with this system and 3500 watts should do some I'd think. Any input would be much appreciated 👌
EXO! Looking good brother. I'm amazed at the time and effort you are pouring into this build, absolutely sensational quality. Your attitude IS CONTAGIOUS. These videos give me bass motivation to work on my build. Watching your logs give me so many ideas. The shell, box, baffle, and bracing are SOLID. Thank you for taking the time to share this hobby with the world. Eager to hear this earthquake.
- Your neighbor in East Tennessee
Thanks for dropping some love, bro! Glad to see a fellow Tennessean in the comments 😁
This build is mind blowing. Wow!!! Such detail and the planning involved must be tremendous. Props to you
Dang, Rich THANK YOU!!! 🙂
You definitely did this the right way, you bought probably the best vehicle there is for bass and you're doing it to the max! Hell yeah!
Appreciate that! May not be the best by far, but it will be WAY MORE THAN ENOUGH for me, and that's all that matters 😜
Been watching you since the wood panel van … this build looks fantastic
Long time, man! Cool to see you still around the channel 😃 Can't wait to keep progressing!
Cannot wait to see this done! Amazed by the level of detail you put in this build!
It’s great seeing you around after all these years, I remember watching you as teen in 2014. God bless brother 🙏💯
Glad to have you back around, Grant! Can't believe it's been that long already 😮
I have been watching this build from the beginning and then went back and watched all of your other videos and have learned a lot from you . Your patience, ambition and energy you put off is what keeps me tuned in . The name you gave it "The Behemoth" is appropriate !lol. look forward to meeting you sometime. Keep at it man this is awesome stuff!
Keep it up EXO!!
We appreciate all the hard work you put in on everything Thanks Exo
10-4, Roger! Happy you're here!!!
Exo takes the words attention to details to another level, amazing work.
Can't believe the level of detail and the patience you have in this build, it is amazing... come a long way from the mini van with the single 18" in the octo ported box to this beast! Love the videos exoz keep em coming!
Totally! Awesome to still have you around checking out the channel here and there 😀
Love all ur content can't wait to to hear this beast when ur done
Happy new year to you Exo! Beautifully done work, you are an artist. LOVING this project, so impressed with all your hard work. With you all the way on this project!

Keep living your dream EXO, Its great motivation to see someone not being pushed by a lame job and the STRESS that running a family has these days. I hope to be back in Car Audio soon.
First. Sup Exo. Atleast start lookin slightly older bro. Your Makin us all look bad. 😜👍
Refresh youtube. You weren't first😁

The amount of work and attention to detail in this build is unrivaled as far as Ive seen, theres complex builds out there but this is truly a "Next Level"
Man I don’t think ANYYY builder goes as far as u do wit the builds. Ur sooooo intricate!!! On every single lil detail!! I don’t think any body has a build like this!! Not wit this much attention to detail. God I been waiting foreverrrrr. I can’t wait to see finished product !!!

I got much more respect for EXO than other guys. A lot of people pay someone ELSE to have their vehicle built, and he’s doing it in his garage. I wish I knew how to do all of that so I could do it. Much respect for being able to balayage family, work, and your hobby.
I'm a guy that has always prided myself on working hard, and I have built bunch of sound systems, but this you make me look lazy. And one of the most straight up positive guys out there. I wish you the very best in life and kickaz systems. As far as dealing with stress goes, I pray that you conquer that.
Just amazing...no one else is going to get me to sit through a 28 minute video but you buddy, I appreciate all the effort you put into the build and the video
I had no idea bass vans took so much work to build. These videos bring me back to my high school days. My 91 crx with homemade 4 12in sub box with 4x 4in pnr ports. With my dd9512's and 2 crossfire 2000d amps, with a good ol group 35 blue top batt. Best was 166.1db on the dash.
Wow, great numbers! Thanks for sharing. I really loved messing around with with audio with my cousin back in the day. Memories that will be always cherished ☺️
@@EXOcontralto Thanks. My friends and I would spend hours tweeking things to get every last db. Like the a/c on max gained .2db, open the driver door 2in gained .3db, or slide driver seat all the way up .1db! When i strapped the amps, and wired down to .25ohm is when it all went by by. I didnt have $5k to replace everything. But the memories last a lifetime!
EXO is the very reason I started bass builds and he never disappoints. Love watching his growth and his journey. Thank you for sharing.
Here and from Brazil, this is the best subwoofer car channel in the world show
I FEEL HONORED!!! 🙏🙏
Love your work! I think I'm probably almost as excited as you watching this whole thing come together!!! I've been watching this whole process from the beginning until now and it has been inspiring, keep up the great work and your positive attitude!
You know it, Trev! Won't be long now before the bass is finally blastin 🔊😁
Nothing like EXO comin' at ya with another video during my R&R brews.

This build has to be one of America's top builds
Everytime i watch videos you send out i cant wait to watch the next one already. Thnk you back to you too for sharing the love of your project as bass heads lover we all are.
Man, everyone sees the demos on these builds, but never see the time and effort that go into them. Freaking amazing! I can’t wait to see it slammin!
As a bass head who has had to make do with a couple of 12s in a car.... this build is everything I've wanted to do. I'm living my bass head life through you.
Dude you got skills!! I imagine the first time you take your finished monster to a show, there will be over a thousand people crowding around your ride!! I'm a 61 year old bass head..Ten thumbs up to you from Southern Ohio!!
You are By far the nicest guy on UA-cam. You know everyone that's watching your video's always has a smile on there face. I wish i was rich because i would send you millions just because you deserve it

Welcome back! I really appreciate your comment 🙏 Saying kind things like that helps motivate me bigtime 🙂
This video was so satisfying to watch. Every video has been so great. These videos have been getting better over these 10+ years I've been watching. Keep it up friend!
This makes everything I work towards totally worth it. Thank you bro!!! Glad to have you on board ☺️
You've come a long way Bruce!!!!!! Nothing better than buying the right tool for the job....and you own the tool afterwards. Plus there's nothing better than a good plan of attack. Every piece of the build has been thought out and minor adjustments addressed.
Welding is on my own list of things to learn and you beat me to it so I'm soooo jealous. Can't wait til this project is finished. Keep up the great work.

Its so awesome to see a build like this from start to finish. You see them all the time after they're done, but seeing the process that you have come up with is very cool! Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see it do some Bassin.
I felt the same way before this all started. It's one of the biggest reasons why I decided to go so detailed and gung-ho with filming
Thank you for being who you are and giving people joy and happiness watching your videos.

So glad you notice all the small improvements over time. Happy to be here man, and happy to have you here!
Love your videos. You show that you can do big things without all the high dollar, fancy tools like CNC machines, laser cutters, and whatever else. You use tools that the every day, novice builder can obtain without breaking the bank. Keep it up! I can't wait to see this monster finished!
What a brilliant build. 👏 So satisfying seeing all the attention to detail and seeing everything done right. I always look forward to another episode. Whatever it may be!
