You should have an adjustment on the tailstock that will take out the taper. In your case you'll need to move the tailstock toward the back of the lathe. Measure how much taper you have and divide by one them put an indicator at the end of the part and move the tailstock that many thousands and lock the tailstock back in place. The adjustments will be on the base of the tail stock and you'll have an allen head set screw on both sides and a locking set screw to lock the tailstock once it's been adjusted. You'll want to have the tailstock lightly tightened so it can move when you adjust the set screws. I'm sure you see how it works just by looking at it. Of course as you mentioned it's not a cure all since the lathe is pretty worn out. You can also rest a heavy piece of brass against the part from the backside which helps take out chatter and will help keep the part from pushing away from the tool. Oh and be sure to use an insert with at most a 1/64th radius.

Probably been mentioned in the comments already, but get whats called a moving steady for your lathe for turning long shafts. It fits on the dovetails of the sliding bed and has rollers or bronze tips that rest on the shaft directly opposite the cutting tool. It moves along with the tool post as you cut and keeps the shaft true and stops it flexing when you push the cutter against it. A must have to turn shafts accurately, even on an old lathe it will be a lot easier and way more accurate.

Does my heart good to know the internal need to make it faster make it better make it smoother is still running strong.
Also love the old school surf music for a portion of the video. Ask Quentin Tarantino everybody loves surf music.

Ethan is like the father that every kid wished to have! :) good work!!
I discovered you today on snapchat, watched 1 story and came here to subscribe and binge watch all your video's, great channel and regarding longer video's even if they were 3hrs long I'd watch them all. Regarding getting shocked, as they say it's not the volts that kill its the amps, I've been shocked loads of times with 240v and it doesn't do anything if your like me apart from make you swear. 😂
You crazy Bastards, now that I found you through Fabrats, I'll have to watch all your videos! Halfway through the first video I saw, I hit subscribe!
