I feel like my school hasn’t really prepared me for the pharmacological aspect of nursing care. I’ve had to dig in and learn a lot on my own. After watching at CCA video on muscle relaxants I asked my instructors if they could differentiate between a muscle relaxant and muscle relaxer (it came up in the unit about mobility) and they said they were the same thing. Perhaps I misunderstood the CCA video. I’ve also asked questions about some of the contradictory statements made about medications in the learning material and I’ve been told to look it up in the learning material. 🤦🏻♀️ I really do feel like I’m teaching myself and I’m wondering why I couldn’t have just taken the didactic stuff online. 🤔
You understood the CCA video correct- unfortunately unless someone works in anesthesiology and routinely gives paralyzing agents (muscle relaxants) they are probably using the terms interchangeably and incorrectly
My first degree is in biochemistry where they teach you scientific method and intellectual curiosity. You are encouraged and expected to know why. Nursing school was a shock to my system. Teachers hated whys and hows. Nursing education needs to fundamentally change.

This is a skill that will serve you well in nursing in the future. Despite receiving push back, it will make you a great nurse
In other words. Learning by rote is garbage. Have room for creativity and flexibility. Learn. Grow. Don't be a dick.
