- The Coast Guard Foundation selected Aviation Survival Technician Second Class Darren Harrity to receive the Admiral Chester R. Bender Award for Heroism at this year’s Pacific Area Awards Dinner in San Francisco on Friday, September 23, 2016.
Petty Officer Harrity towed four survivors, who were all wearing full survival suits, one-by-one in 48-degree water through choppy waves and pitch darkness; completing the equivalent of an Olympic-length triathlon swim during the rescue.

@@prosperclothing-te1pm ASM1 Retired 1995. RIF affected HH60 Mechanics and Avionicsman, Had to Hire them back as Civilian Contractors. Did away with program. Knew E5 had 18, kicked him out no Pension, AD3 good mechanic, Falcon Maintenance, froze at taking tests, no Training to Civilian Life! Use GI Bill,Got CDL license, Bishop State in Mobile, Charters and tours Colonial Trailways,, Olympics in Atlanta,then Team Semi Driving the 22 Years Union Carhauler in Detroit,Retired Teamster 229! 2019….68 yrs old
