Excellent video, thank you! It was also very entertaining to hear your comments while repairing my drone alongside...thanks for that sheet to help remember where the screws go! I took a screenshot and printed it out. Also the pace of your video was perfect, I was able to follow along and pause here and there, and it wasn't overly long or too quick either. Perfect, my drone is back in action thanks to you! (I purchased a metal yaw arm from Amazon)
Great video. I replaced my flex cable. My camera is 1 or 2 degrees off center to right. Set screw is tightened down properly. Can you share any advice on how to straighten the camera since DJI does not have yaw adjustment like they do roll adjustment?
+timmyd - This is a sign of mainboard damage in most cases. Sometimes it can be corrected with a "cold calibration" of the IMU, but in most cases it's not fixable. You should check to see if there's any dirt or metal filings stuck to the yaw motor magnet. This type of thing can distort the magnetic field that the mainboard reads for yaw position. I have fixed this by turning the magnet on the yaw motor, but I broke the magnet a few times. I only got this to work once. The rest of my attempts just mad the problem worse. I would recommend that you don't try it to fix a 1-2 degree problem. Mine were 10-15 degrees. I think there should be some sort of reset for this. I find it hard to believe that DJI dour through the work of clocking each magnet to +/- .5 degrees. It would be much simpler and less expensive to get it within +/- 5 degrees and then zero it out in the firmware. Anybody have any ideas on how this could be achieved?
+Tony Bock Thanks Tony! It would sure be nice if DJI added a "Yaw Adjustment" like they do for Roll. Then if a camera was off between 1-5 degrees, it could be adjusted to center. Thanks again for the video and taking time to respond.
+Tony Bock After close inspection I found that when the yaw arm is perfectly straight the camera is slightly angled so it appears that the roll arm is bent. I also noticed that while there is no binding, the tilt is not free spinning like the yaw and roll. The link to your eBay keeps showing item sold.
Ty so much for the parts and for the walk through. Helped tremendously. I have an issue that maybe u can help me with. Now that I installed everything, once I powered on the phantom, the camera screen is just a screen with pink lines through it. I have no view. It worked before I changed the yaw arm so I know it's not the camera itself. Any ideas?
+JL 561 - Sounds like ed bad ribbon cable. Think of it like when a tv looses signal and gets all blocky and changes colors. This is the extreme version. I don't know exactly why scrambled digital video goes to pink. It might be an interesting fact...? Anyway, the only causes I've seen for this is damaged ribbon, cheap clone ribbon, and damaged antennas. I'm going to go with damaged ribbon or cheap ribbon in your case, since you say it changed after the repair, not the crash.
Tony - my Yaw arm won't come off of the base like you do at 2:47 of this video. It just won't slide off, I took the screw out with an Allan key but still won't budge. Any ideas? Wondering if it bent or something when it crashed.
Nice video Tony so many thanks for that. I noticed 2 mins 45 sec into the video you talk about possible damage that can happen to the gimbal control circuit board. In my case the long thin black chip is damaged (totally crushed) and after putting the module together and doing all of the alignments the horizontal yaw control ceases to work and the camera has a 1 sec cyclic judder. I know I have done the alignment correctly, have spent a lot of time researching it aswell. Do you think that damaged chip might attribute to this problem? To make matters worse I was able to get a second-hand crash damaged gimbal control circuit and camera off ebay. I have connected that onto my drone only to find the same problem. However in the later case of the second hand ebay purchase I took the plastic protective cover off the gimbal circuit and found the same damage to the black chip area, but someone had removed it and replaced it with a soldered in length of copper wire. I was interested in your learned opinion in this matter. Many thanks if you can help me in this matter. Martin
I can't seem to get the yaw arm off (the step at 2:45). It's completely stuck on somehow. I had a hard time getting the bearing off too...any suggestions? This is on the Phantom 3 Pro.
Tony, you mention on the yaw arm that you normally don't see electronics broken, but you pointed out a magnet. Any idea what the magnet does, or a replacement piece for it? Mine's shattered. :(
replaced my ribbion cable and then relized the fan on top was cracked .can i get a new fan(still spins) .but when i turned my drone back on camera did not move at all .loose conect somewhere or doom?thanks!!!!!!
Hello, I ordered your replacement yaw arm. I installed the arm and a new flat cable. The camera is acting strange and I'm getting a "gimbal overload" warning. Can you help with this? Thanks for a great product!
I need help with my DJI Phantom 3. I crashed my drone last week and it does not have any broken pieces from outside. But when I turned it on, the camera makes the normal starting sound and kept clicking after that. I cannot seem to get my phone connects to the drone also. Not sure if it is hardware or software issues?
Just got the parts in today, did the full repair. I desperately need help. After booting up the phantom 3 (standard). The gimbal with move around perfectly then center itself. However, after a few seconds the gimbal kind of jerks and then a green light appears on the top of the gimbal. I am able to connect to the wifi network on my device, however in the application it indicates the camera is not connected. Any tips?
My P3S lost all range with the new 1.6.80 update, but now my pitch motor is binding and locks in the down position. I've never crashed it and I usually hand catch I also have a carbon fiber gimbal saver installed. Any thoughts on why the pitch gets stuck? Would you be interested in a repair service if I shipped the gimbal to you?
My Phantom 3 suffered a crash; the camera detached and tore the black ribbon. Can I send it to you for repair? If so, please let me know how I can get it to you.
The shaft doesn't bend on the roll motor, although it can bend on the other two. It might appear that it has, but that's not the case at all. What happens is that the hole in the motor bell (the part with the magnet) gets deformed. In most cases you can get it straight again by squeezing it with your fingers. Don't use tools. That would likely cause damage to the magnet inside. If that doesn't work, then there's probably too much damage to the bell.
You're right. the shaft wasn't bent. I did get it off though. Just pulled it. Unfortunately some of the wires on the one coil on the roll motor got severed. I'm guessing it's kind of impossible to fix that? Unless you rewind the motor or something? I measured the resistance between the 3 phases, and there is 5.6 ohms between the 2 phases, but then the other phases registers nothing, so I think the connection is properly broken.
Hey! I did all like on the video but now after the change the gimbal is not working anymore. It doesn't react. Live video from phone I can see, but the gimbal won't try to move. It won't move at all, non of the gimbal motors. Any ideas why? I didn't change the ribbon cable, only the yaw arm, and I'm pretty sure that I plugged all connections back in.
Check that all latches are closed on the ribbon. If they are, try a new ribbon cable again. The only ones I trust are original DJI cables from a trusted reseller like B&H Photo.
I've had a crash yesterday and I also have cracked yaw arm, when I buy a replacement camera + gimbal for my Phantom 3 standard is it just plug and play? thanks in advance!
Yes. I made a video on how to remove the gimbal too. It's pretty straight forward but the clips can be a pain in the butt. How to: ua-cam.com/video/QYHDLi8XGWs/v-deo.html
👍 seen every video from you this evening (it's evening in the Netherlands) ☺ but I haven't seen a video about replacing the whole unit... but you say it's just replace it with a new one, attache the wires and I'm good to go?! 👍
The camera just connects and works. You can use a pro camera or a advanced camera too. It doesn't matter. If you use the advanced camera, the app will see your copter as an advanced, and if you use p pro camera then it sees it as a pro.
You might need to bind the controller to the drone again. Seems to be a pretty common issue after doing a camera repair on a p3s. Check my other videos. I'll try to get a how-to up later today.
The only thing that's different between the 4K and HD is the mainboard (the board the SD card plugs into). You can swap the mainboard and fan from a 4K over to an HD and make that a 4K. Even the camera is the same.
Hey Tony, yesterday i crashed my phantom 3 advanced and now the gimbal yaw arm is broken, ur tutorial might help me a lot, BUT my Fan is missing ;( where can I get a new one? Hope You're gonna answer me, regards, Maksimilian
The Advanced camera doesn't come with a fan. The Pro (and probably the 4K) fans are about $20 if you can find them. I think those fans are made special for DJI. I haven't been able to find that exact size. You can get one that's close enough from digikey though.
Thanks for the respond, Now i repaired the yaw arm, but during the repair the little black chip at the "mainboard" of the gimbal broke.... what can I do? please help me!
Good morning, brother. My phantom 3 std wet the camera and now the image is a little greenish. Which may be the problem, would be flat cable or the gimbal board.
If you can still see an image, but there is a green tint, it could be as simple as dirt or algae inside the camera. The housing for the camera is not waterproof. You should be able to disassemble the camera and clean it with acetone. Don't use rubbing alcohol. That stuff is usually 30% water. Acetone is perfectly safe for your electronics and it's easily available and 0% water. If the picture is solid green, you might just have corrosion in the connectors, but it could also be a water damaged component. thank You very much for video , I am preparing for rapair of my broken gimbal too. From Advanced Phantom. Where I can get picture for screws whitch I see on Your table ? - it is simple clever ..... thx
Is it possible to hand straighten this yaw arm? mine has the exact same bend. Ive read people have done it successfully. thanks for the video bud, going to be very helpful no matter what I do.
+Tom Oates Premiere - Cost of aluminum parts was the driving force of this project in the beginning. Aluminum parts are a lot more affordable now, but the quality is not as good as the original in most cases. I'm not sure if they were trying to avoid lawsuits or just lazy, but the parts don't fit the same as the original parts. I purchased some samples from a few different suppliers and found that the measurements are off in several places. Most common flaw was in the paths cut for the ribbon cable to go to the motor controllers. They are 2mm-3mm out of position. Length of the yaw arm was off as well. This caused misalignment of the ribbon and caused the ribbon to be tight when the copter would roll to the left. The aluminum parts are still useful, but don't expect anything high quality from these cheap eBay sellers.
Thanx. Got my yaw arm through Amazon .. iCarbide, an international tooling company machined in the US. Got my cable through DJI. I don't do business with eBay. Bought a nice mini screwdriver set and metric allens.
Do you have a link to that screwdriver is it magnetic? BTW just send you a video on my P3 standard and was hoping you could advise on how to fix it. I replaced the yaw arm but the camera goes crazy and says "gimbal motor overloaded". YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Love these videos!
I sent you a reply by email. The most common cause of a crazy camera after a repair is from a mistake during assembly. The shaft that the camera attaches to needs the flat side to face the back of the camera. You can hold the gimbal up to the light to look through the gap and see if you've made this mistake.
I would not recommend that you buy your screwdrivers online. The quality matters quite a bit. I got mine at microcenter, but Walmart might even have them. Be sure to look at the tips on the Philips drivers to see if the point is small enough. Cheap ones often have blunt tips and won't work for this job.
Sorry bud. If you have a Standard with a bad mainboard, you're going to need a whole new gimbal. The Standard gimbal uses some sort of internal network addressing. The camera and mainboard are paired at the factory and don't interchange. You need to replace the camera and mainboard as a set. The gimbal will run for about 10-15 seconds and then go limp. I even tried swapping mainboards between two brand new gimbals to confirm.
How you doing Tony. Hate to knock on wood but been in the air a long time without contacting you. Hope all is well didn't get any answers on your equations but will check back again with him to see if he came up with anything.,
Thanks a million for this. I just bent my yaw arm back straight(ish) and seeing all these steps was very informative. I'll get your kit if my unbent arm causes issues.
Ray Walker - Its been a while since I had time to do anything with drones, so I'm glad that what I posted here is still helping people. I plan to get back into upgrades and repairs someday, but it's hard to say when that will happen.
Tony are you still up and running. Isent you a text a yeek ago if you were still with us if you fix stuf and if so what would you charg to get my gimbal up and running camera works gimbal wont do its little dance i put new parts and a ribbon in it oh its a p3standard could you let me know noe way or another plz
Finally I achieved HD FPV on fixed wing taking part from my dji phantom 3 , i test the video on the ground and everything works perfectly, now I got stop on my project, when I went to text the video on the air my gimbal start to spinning around like crazy and I don't have the way to fix my gimbal to know what cause the problem, I was wondering if someone can help me, here is the video ua-cam.com/video/gw2aEs1HnnM/v-deo.html

Thanks for the video, the ribbon cable connection of my board shorted. Do you sell a new board/do I need a new board? Thanks
Hi Tony. Where can I get a printable of the parts mat? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
My Phantom 3 suffered a crash; the camera detached and tore the black ribbon. Can I send it to you for repair? If so, please let me know how I can get it to you.
Many thanks! Just repaired a drone for the first time. That gold ribbon cable was a pain!
what is that orange wire you fed through at 12:05? i need a new one but i cant figure out the name.
That's the roll motor. You can't just replace the cable, you'll need to replace the whole motor.
Dang.....
Where can i buy one?

If I have to make some parts of Phantom 4 drone available online, then you can tell me how to get this thing

You might need to bind the controller to the drone again. Seems to be a pretty common issue after doing a camera repair on a p3s. Check my other videos. I'll try to get a how-to up later today.
Man can I upgrade the 2k cam from Phanthon 3 adv to 4K cam of Phanthon 3 pro??
Does it works or fit?
I've heard of people demoting the phantom 3 pro into a phantom 3 adv with the gimbal, but idk about the other way around
Hi Tony,
I have a phantom pro 3 that has a micro SD card housing broken. It doesn't hold the memory card inside. How can I repair it or replace it?
Hi Tony, my cover plate is cracked. Do you happen to know where I can get one. I have tried looking for it without success.
I have parts for everything. Send me a message if you need anything and I'll give you prices.
hay tony where can i get the yaw arm printed
We are doing repair work and need some of those parts
Email me at sales@bockhobby.com or look for them on eBay.
Good Day Sir. Where to buy/order that yaw arm for phantom 3 pro? can find in dji store... Thanks so much for this very helpful video.
Hi! Is it possible switch 4k broken gimbal for a hd new gimbal? And keep the 4k camera? thanks!
Hope You're gonna answer me,
regards, Maksimilian
The Advanced camera doesn't come with a fan. The Pro (and probably the 4K) fans are about $20 if you can find them. I think those fans are made special for DJI. I haven't been able to find that exact size. You can get one that's close enough from digikey though.
Thanks for the respond,
Now i repaired the yaw arm, but during the repair the little black chip at the "mainboard" of the gimbal broke.... what can I do? please help me!
Umm... buy a whole new camera. You can't fix that one.
You might get it working again by taking it apart, cleaning all the boards with a toothbrush and acetone, and installing a new ribbon cable. It would certainly be worth trying. Good luck! Let us know how it works out.

where can I order all the parts that you have shown in this Video?
Hi,
Anyone knows the type of screws - the 3 one that are holding the yaw arm on the roll motor? cannot find them anywhere !
Thanks!
hi... where you take the screwdriver to remove the gimbal?
Are the cooling fans only on the pro camera's?
Yes. Only the pro has a fan. The new P34K might have a fan too, but I'm not sure what style gimbal it has.
+Tony Bock Thank you
Is it the same in the p3pro model?
Can I still buy these parts anywhere?
please how can i buy this... in serious need of a replacement! crashed my drone on my first flight 😥
I sell these parts on eBay, and on RCgroups. There is a link in the description for the RCgroups discussion.
hi, Where I can find the gimbal motor ???!!
what size what size is that set screw that goes on the yaw arm
The set screw that holds it to the shaft is an m3x3 with a dimple at the tip, not a point. It uses a 1.5mm Allen driver.
+Tony Bock thanks man
2:15 2:19 size of the screw? Thanks
hi my phantom 3 gimbal won't tilt up or down after crash is it the ribbon needs replace thanks help please
I don't have enough information to say for sure, but the ribbon is a really common failure. It would be worth a try.
Thank you Tony for this video. It was perfect! From Adelaide South Australia. :)
Hiii your video looks very helpful. Where can I purchase it?? I hate being without my drone lol
does it work for pro with the same arm
Why you change for this parts? for save weight? or?
This is a repair part. If you break the aluminum arms, you can't buy replacements from DJI.
how do i get a copy of the screw location sheet ?
It's included with my repair kit.
Why plastic and not a CNC 6061 aluminum housing?

The camera and mainboard are paired at the factory and don't interchange. You need to replace the camera and mainboard as a set. The gimbal will run for about 10-15 seconds and then go limp. I even tried swapping mainboards between two brand new gimbals to confirm.
WAF !!
Tony Bock so if my camera broke off and i replaced the ribbon cable and yaw arm would it still work or will i need a whole new gimbal?

No, the phantom 4 is a completely different design and has about 3x as many screws.

Thanks a million for this. I just bent my yaw arm back straight(ish) and seeing all these steps was very informative. I'll get your kit if my unbent arm causes issues.
