I’ve said this many times: contributors could so easily edit out ‘mistakes’ but they don’t and the craft is all the better for it. At least it makes dummies like me feel a little better 😂. All the best Ken and that is a spectacular bowl. Thank you for sharing 🌞
I tell you what, I am having some fun with a bunch of different colors from my youth. I try Black and Pink next week and boy it did not come out at all. But the results are stunning non the less. Wish you guys had a neon pink in those dispersion pigments.
I think it's truly BEAUTIFUL!!!! I love the swirls of color in it, and the wood sets up with its textures beside it with loveliness. Another great masterpiece!
As someone new to turning- it's so helpful to not only see experienced turners using traditional tools (not carbides), but also errors & how to push on through. Thanks so much Ken!
I love using traditional tools. I even prefer it on resin and wood projects. But when they are bigger there is no substitute for a carbide to hog out the middle. Every tool, no matter if traditional or carbide has there place in wood turning. Just like resin or other other newer forms of adding stuff to the wood. As time moved forward we made advancements to turning. We went from leg powered lathes to motors. Went from tabletop lathes to 4th axis cnc machines. went from tree pitch as an adhesive to wood glue to CA glues. They all have their place. Thank you
@@MoonpieCreations This is very helpful information. It's hard to know, when you're as new as I am, if you need to buy this or that. I will keep this knowledge to help me as I move to bigger projects. (Innovations are amazing aren't they?) Have a fabulous Sunday.
Love the humor in this video. I too remember playing marbles and had my favorites. Even tried teaching my kids how to play however;, they weren't interested. It turned out great including the bottom enhancements that you intentionally added to make it authentic. Thanks for sharing and bringing back wonderful memories.😎
Haha, I tried to teach my sons and they just stared at me. Said it was boring, then went back to their video games. I always wonder were their kids attention would be. But my grand kids are coming around to more of what I used to do as a kid. Maybe I should try and teach them marbles? 🤔
You wouldn't want them all to come easy. What enjoyment would you get from that. She's beautiful. I think the happy little imperfection in the bottom of the bowl just enhances your tribute.😁👍
I love the marbling effect of the yellow and black and despite it becoming a funnel, you crated a wonderful repair. Having the bottom opening up is a learning experience. You learn to be more careful with how you hollow it out and then you learn how to do a repair that enhances the appearance of the bowl. You didva GREAT job! Thanks for sharing!
As soon as you see slow motion on a turning video, you know something is about to happen. Fortunately it was a minor hiccup and not the project flying across the room. Looks fantastic!!!
Ken, what a beautiful bowl. I love the war the colors swirl in the piece. In addition, the little booboo that you fixed made the bowl even more charming. It couldn't look better if you had planned it. Thank you for sharing your talents.
That came out beautifully. I also agree with some other posts, that "happy accident" added a wonderful touch to an already excellent piece. You may have been the funnel club president, but it was a very short lived term, because you corrected it so perfectly. Keep up the great work.👍👍👏👏
I have been using Ack's abrasive sanding paste kit for years. They are located in the same small town where my grandfather grew up and lived. They provide a great product.
Me too! But I was listening to classic county at the time, so I think it's helped me be calm. It's when I listen to heavy metal from the 80's that I pull out the shotgun. lol Metallica and Anthrax will do it to you.
Nice save Ken! The boo boo in the bottom was made better. It makes the bowl look even better!!!! Ack's paste and polish is fantastic stuff. It is all I use on my wood working projects. I tell everyone about Tom and Annette's products.
Thanks 👍I hope Ack's can pull through this inflation mess. I know my sales are down to almost zero, but I only do this as a side hustle. Their livelihood is this company.
I salute "Jimmie the marble thief"! Little did Jimmie know that this one act of theft would inspire the creation of such a beautiful piece of art so many years later. Yeah, it does look a little green😄
Oh that's a cool looking one. My dad threw all mine out along with my rock collection. Said he wasn't dragging them around the world ass we moved to Germany.
you ought to do a series of bowls in the colors of each of the us military branches in the swirl pattern of this one. I think that would be an amazing set of bowls when complete.
I've been turning bowls, and other stuff, since 1969, and I still make funnel (not as many, but I still do) Latest one was last week on a 200-year-old bald cypress and resin project😒. That bowl you made was cool looking. I like it a lot.
I love the bowl and I love your humor as well as your faked anger. It does look green in the video but I figured it was just the way my phone was making it look lol. I think making a bunch of big bumble bee marbles and then casting those into a bowl would be pretty cool too.
Gorgeous!!! Can't do it today, but in the next couple weeks I'll be heading to Acks page. My brother is a budding wood turner & would appreciate having good stuff to makes his projects look amazing.
Great recovery, I have several that I need to pull from my “shelf of shame”, just waiting for the right time like when the temperatures in the garage reach at least 60.
I was thinking that same thing...but he did in deed pour yellow and black. Yellow and blue make green; perhaps the black was made with a lot of blue hues. If so, that would make perfect sense...but that would be on the resin company...not Ken. Not that you were saying that was on Ken.
Thank you! 😊 The video camera gave it that greenish color. But it does have a little green hue to it. I think it's an optical illusion being next to the black.
@@MoonpieCreations I think it's the pigments in the black, and is a lot of dark blue making it up. I was looking through some other Total Boat ink drop pigment videos and some of them showed the black ink drop separating colors and a dark blue was bleeding from the black.
I just purchased some marbles for a resin project, the last time I bought marbles for myself was about 50 years ago.😆 That was a beautiful tribute to your lost marble…s?😅 Very cool bowl! Great recovery
I got a bag in an estate auction with a bunch of old marbles, even some clay ones. Brought back a rush of memories. Wish I had this bag when I was a kid. Would have been the envy to 3rd and 4th grades.
Beautiful 🐝 bowl, Jimmy is a jealous marble thief seeing this creation. Regardless of the funnel hole 🕳 catastrophe, actually it turned out as if it was a well planned design ❤
The legend of Jimmy Thompson and the events of that day were told as far west as East Tennessee and beyond. Some say the Bumblebee Boulder Shooter was never heard from again. Oh sure, some claimed to have seen it but nobody had proof. Kinda like when Elvis died, people have trouble letting go of a legend.
Looks great, Ken. I think that repair actually enhances the bowl. I guess size really does matter to a lot of people - and not just the bit size (lol). Bill
That's the thing, most of those Bumblebee's did have more yellow. But mine had just the right amount. It was glorious. But maybe the 43 years since has made it out to be more than it was. lol
I must say that when you took it out of the pressure pot I was skeptical because of how black it looked. I’m glad that you are “president of the funnel club” because I had suggested to Doug that he do it on purpose because I thought it would look cool. I was right it’s pretty awesome.

Those swirls and color separation look awesome
Thank you! Cheers!
I love the way the black & yellow swirled together! Wow! Wow!
Thank you Carol.
You fixed a mistake and I respect you showing it! I have never done that 3 times myself - lol.
Haha, I like how you put that. bahahaha
The marbling effect is GORG!!!

“Black and yellow, black and yellow” 🎵
Haha, next weeks bowl looks incredible too. Not what I was going for but really cool
Reminds me of being a little kid and looking at all the swirling colors in the bowling balls while my mother competed with her group. Nice bowl.
Haha, I never thought of bowling balls, but you are totally right.
That reminds me of a yellow jacket that was melted in toxic waste! It's sooooo wicked looking!!!!
Thank you.
What a great tribute to a marble. Good job.
Thank you so much 😀
It was well worth all your frustration. It’s beautiful!
Thank you Kathy
Beautiful!!! Looks like you planned it that way , you always figure it out...... sensational bowl.
Thank you Martha.
Awesome! I love the one spot on the side. looks like a great storm on an alien gas giant! love it.
That void really made a good look

I think the happy little imperfection in the bottom of the bowl just enhances your tribute.😁👍
You are so kind thank you.
My face when I saw the hole 😮. Glad you took a moment for your anger to subside 😂
You and me both!
I love the mixing of the colors, the bowl's not too shabby either, lol. Great recovery job!
Thanks a bunch!
That's an amazing piece Ken. Love the colors and all the swirls.
Thank you kindly

Hey Eileen, bot war and way work in there. lol Thank you so much.
Cool beans! The simple designs you do just POP. And the funnel plug is perfect.
Thanks Patrick.
Beautiful bowl & I love the marble funnel. Maybe Jimmy will see this & wanna swap the bowl for the marble🤷♀️😊
Haha, I would do it in a heart beat.
I really liked how it looked after the fix in the bottom
Thank you
I think that is my favorite bowl you have ever turned. It's awesome. Like to see you make several more like that with different colors.
Here, Hold my beer
Another beauty! And the happy little accident at the bottom was really cool. Well done! Thx and take it easy
Thank you
Yes, loving the bumblebee bowl!
Thank you
Ken, as Bob Ross would say, you had a "happy little accident" and the final result makes it look like it was planned all along. Good work!
Thank you
The Bumblebee Shooter could be a great cocktail.
Ohhhh that sounds tasty
Love it man. All the steps amazed me.
Awesome! Thank you!

I had a sky blue and white swirled shooter. I don't know what happened to it over the years. Love the bowl!
Oh that's a cool looking one. My dad threw all mine out along with my rock collection. Said he wasn't dragging them around the world ass we moved to Germany.

Thanks for CCing! And honestly, the void at the bottom is a happy accident because it looks great with the resin there now. :)
Thank you. I enjoy putting cc's when I have time.
Good recovery….love joking around about the dude stealing your bumble bee boulder. Mistakes help us all learn, even you! 😊❤
😁
I like that you went through the bottom and then filled it in with resin. I think it make the bowl look so much nicer.
Thank you Jeff.
Frankly, I like the way the bottom turned out. It looks good enough to say you did it on purpose. Really enjoyed it!
Thank you!
Great solution to the funnel action.
Thanks Doug
Love it!! Even tho you went through the bottom, the way you repaired it is awesome!! Looks like a marble sitting down in there.
Thanks so much! 😊

Right?!? Thank you.

the colors came out awesome Ken, you Dummy lol we've all been there ! thumbs up as always

Well, that was a happy accident for sure! The swirly resin center is a perfect accent. And man, I hope Jimmy never crosses your path! 😄
Haha, My wife and I were talking about that last night. What if he watches my videos? 😂😂
Looks great. Awesome overcoming the issues. Great comebacks.
Thanks a bunch!
Great looking bowl
Thanks 👍
Acks is some great stuff. I have tried the DIY but I haven’t found anything that companies to Acks.
Love the bowl. Great colors.
It really is. Thanks 👍
Looks really nice. Kind of funny though because some of the yellow has a green hue to it. But I think that’s part of why I like it.
I think the black makes it look that way.
Going right through the bottom? That must have STUNG! Sorry, pun aside, you saved it and THAT is what counts!!! GREAT JOB!!!
Ouch to that pun.
😂 That was horrible. But I liked it.
I was expecting you to make a giant marble and doing the neenerneener 🤪🤪to Jimmy T. LOL

Damn it Jimmy, give that marble back.
Yeah Jimmy you ass hat. Haha
It’s beautiful, funnel and all. And you should get that marble back.
If only I knew where he lived.

Where you at now Jimmy!?!? Ken is out here killing it and Jimmy is probably working at a Quickie Mart.
