      To be honest, i would buy such apartment and live there happily. If the price was right. It is not bad at all, the only real downside is the step. And obviously there is a need for customised furniture, also i would i would put frosted glass over the entrance door definitely 😁
      But you can make nice kitchen there if you move things a little bit. Side desk and mattress on the floor, or even side foldable bed.

Put Ikea storage cabinets on same side as the kitchen to hold items. Place plants on top of and beside storage cabinets. Attach a flip up table to the front of one of the cabinets to use as a desk.. dining table for two or extra space for prep work for meals with folding stools. Place a chair between the cabinet closest to bed for relaxing and reading. Use a projector to watch movies and stream yt and other channels.. the wall would make a perfect screen. Hang pictures and mirrors to make the apt seem bigger and wider. So much potential with this tiny space. I'd be in heaven decorating and living in it.

    Most people are absolutely horrified by these small apartments. Personally I wouldn't have anything against living in a space of this size. I think they are a fun design challenges and can be quite comfortable as longs as you live an active urban life and don't own a lot of stuff... You don't necessarily need a massive suburban mansion to live a full or comfortable life in the city, especially if the city in itself provides a lot of that additional comfort. I mean I currently live in a small studio apartment (by choice) in a walkable city, and it's great to be honest. Here, I have a co-working space for work, tons of libraries, gyms, cinemas, restaurants, grocery & convenience stores, cafés, parks etc. as well as a whole beach front. All within a 5-15 minute walk- or bike ride.
    If I could design this apartment I would probably want to have a desk in front of the window with a comfortable office chair... This is where I would probably spend most of my time at home (working on the computer, playing video games, watching videos) And when it comes to to sleeping I would probably build a slim horizontal murphy bed with a nice top shelf for plants. On the other side I would have a mirrored wall with and some taller green plants, to make the room look bigger and add some texture and life to it. I would also like to remove the washing machine as there are so many laundromats in japan.... instead I would end the kitchen at a 45degree angle. which would house a fold up diagonal dining bar for two people. The 45 degree would allow more space, interesting lines/division in the middle of the apartment while also allow passage when the bar table is popped-up. The bar space will also dual act as more prep-space. The biggest issue really is that the apartment doesn't have any cabinets or storage. This could be fixed with shelves and skinny storage solutions. But I am getting a feeling that those changes + murphy bed would be near impossible for a rental in japan, as you can't do anything with the walls.

      "Horrified" isn't the right word: I'd say it's impossible to live in with any kind of handicap.

    • @PixelShade
      @PixelShade 21 день тому +1

      @@telldo8016 I mean, I do agree with you of course. But at the same time, not all apartments have to be handicap-friendly. I live in an apartment complex which is "handicap friendly" (great for elderly as well), but it also happen to be well suited for students and young professionals since it has a couple of tiny studio apartments. I think it's extremely healthy to have mixed apartment complexes so that you will meet people from all walks of life. That's not always the case in Tokyo due to the extreme demand of affordable solo apartments.

      I’m pretty confused why people dislike places like these.
      For me as long as there’s a place to sleep, shower, and go bathroom I’m fine.
      I don’t really see homes as a place to live but rather a place to sleep.

  • @phoenixineohp
    @phoenixineohp 20 днів тому +2

    As someone with IBS, the fact that the bathroom is at least IN the apartment scores this place well above some of the other crazy places you have shown. Personally, I think the rest comes down to how much it would cost per month. If it's super cheap? Sure, it could work. With a laundry across the street, I'd rather swap that washer to a fridge. And swap the plywood and gas stove to an induction cook top that doesn't feel like it's going to fall off the wall in an earthquake. Get rid of the hanging bar by the window and put it over the tub. But yeah, it's workable!

      Years ago a religious duo knocked and I thought it was an expected friend. I speak Greek and started at top speed with lots of hand movements. They were suggesting to each other what language I may be speaking. Finally, one said- "Let's go find someone who can tell us what she said". No religious folks ever knocked again.

    It's easy, just expand the house by welding a Galvanized Square Steel then fasten with some screws borrowed from your aunt, lastly cover with eco-friendly wood veneer, this will be durable for 10000 years.

    Idk now you keep doing this Norm, I mean... is mega impressive how more videos of tiny apartments keep appearing made by you.
    When I saw you going up those tiny stairs, I just think how a person would move the whatever belongings they own up that place, one by one, those are so many trips. Good for cardio and leg exercise I guess.

  • @dsa2591
    @dsa2591 15 днів тому +1

    It would depend on how much I was allowed to do to the apartment. There is a lot of wall space and a high ceiling, so if I was allowed to put up shelving, I could probably make the size work. It looks like there is enough space to hang a curtain in front of the bathroom to make it more private. If allowed, you could enclose the under-stove area or place some sort of storage under that. Hanging things is the way to go. It wouldn't be so bad if you weren't home most of the day.
