    I'm from Finland and I never understand how somebody would even consider wearing shoes inside the house or apartment. Like, she had to particularly mention this "we don't wear shoes here" habit. I understand the differencies between cultures of course. But why would you want all the junk from outside in your home? Taking off your shoes is a standard here.

    • @bomethia7412
      @bomethia7412 6 років тому +55

      Geglson I never knew that! For me I don’t wear my shoes in the house, but both of my parents do all day until they sleep lol. I don’t see the point of wearing shoes inside as well, it just brings the dirt from outside in.

    • @camez2345
      @camez2345 6 років тому +46

      Same. I'm from the U.S., Chicago. It's not really a custom here, but I've never liked wearing shoes at home. Yes, there's the dirt factor, but also, I just don't like the feeling of having shoes on my feet that much. It feels unnatural and constricted. I change into flip flops the moment I walk in the door. But at other people's homes, if they ask me to take off my shoes, it makes me a bit uncomfortable, because feet feel private. And when people take off their shoes on airplanes -- just no. No no no no no.

    • @wendyannh
      @wendyannh 6 років тому +26

      And I don't like walking around in bare feet where other people are walking around either in shoes *or* their own bare feet. Ick, ick, ick! Can you say "athlete's foot"? Do you also go barefoot in public showers and bathrooms?
      Also, I need the support of shoes, everywhere. My feet don't change their needs depending on where they are. I also don't like to slip on the floors and risk falling.

    • @singenstattatmen5096
      @singenstattatmen5096 6 років тому +59

      @@wendyannh Well no one is forcing you to take off your socks, too. Here in Germany we also take off our shoes in the house, I like to bring big wooly socks or non-slipping-socks (which would take care of your fear of slipping) when I go to a house party at a friend's place. Some people will even offer you house shoes our house socks when you come in.
      And in public showers I usually wear flip flops. Walking without shoes is in no way unhealthy for your feet, of course the needs of feet change depending on where you are. Mine need protection from getting cut etc. as well as coldness when I'm out, they don't need that protection when I'm home.
      In the end it all comes down to culture and habit. You will find reasons to dislike things you're not used to easily because you only know differently. We just have to realize that it's all subjective there is no right or wrong or better, no matter how much we feel that our way is the best way.
      I for example would hate wearing shoes in the house, but I can see that you'd like it if everyone around you has done it that way forever. Different countries, different customs. You would not find it disgusting AT ALL to take off your shoes had you grown up in another country where that's the norm.

      Well, where I come from being barefoot at somebody else's apartment is seen, like being very close to that person, you don't go taking your shoes off anywhere...Besides, I like shoes in my feet.
