This is a really good medium, especially for sketching on location. Not as messy and not as demanding as the watercolours, because it allows that only part of the sketch is wetted for watercolour effects. When is dry, regular oil pastels can be added on top too.

Hello, how do you protect the drawing? for instance if you use these in a mixed media project over acrylics, what finish do you use to protect them from smuging?

Sorry to reply so late Regine. We would suggest a spray varnish, that way there won't be any chance of smudging when applying the varnish. They come in gloss, satin, or matte finishes depending on what you prefer, but make sure to allow a few weeks/a month of dry time for the oil pastels to be fully cured.

Hi, Are washable pastels and water soluble pastels are same? Thanks for replying.

@Rivertowner Washable pastels and water soluble pastels have a few differences. Washable pastels are typically a children's grade material, whereas water soluble pastels can be student or professional grade. Washable pastels can be water soluble, but the quality of the washes may vary. On the other hand, water soluble pastels can wash out of fabric and other materials, but may leave more residue and not wash out well once it has sat for a while. I hope that has answered your question!

How do these compare with the Mungyo Gallery artist soft oil pastels? Thanks 😊

@JJ they are very similar in consistency as far as softness/creaminess is concerned. They apply and blend out just like the Mungyo Gallery Artists Soft Oil Pastels, but the pearlescent colors are a little softer than the traditional colors.
