Thanks Stephanie! I’m so happy you enjoyed this! I think there’s been a resurgence in popularity of water soluble oil pastels. I love these and I love the Neocolors (both I and II) as well. They are just… Magical!! Have you tried the Portfolio Series by Crayola?
@@artonthecreek You're welcome. I really love the Neocolor II's and I need to use them more. No, I haven't tried the Portfolio Series. Do you enjoy them more than the Mungyo pastels?
@TheGypsyChic1 when I used them long ago they didn’t seem as pigmented. I will have to try them again-the Mungyos seem more richly pigmented if memory serves me correctly. I was very impressed with the Mungyos as they are student grade supplies!
The Mungyo water-soluble oil pastels look fun. I particularly like how the water turned out in your painting - the texture is nice. Thanks for the links. I enjoyed this video.

Thank you, Lynne! Funny you ask that-I was thinking just this morning of making my own journals with glassine between each page because they aren’t as common as they once were. Canson Mi Tientea used to about 10 years ago - you might be able to find one of those on eBay or a similar site. Unfortunately I’m not immediately aware of any commercially produced pastel journals with the glassine between each page other than the Sennelier Pastel Card. If you find any, be sure to let me know! I’d me happy to test that out on the channel🫶🏼👩🏻🎨
Thanks Anne. V nice! What’s the min thickness for the paper for soluble wax ? Is 300gsm better ? I did this tutorial and enjoyed it v much but almost breaking my 150g sketchbook paper.
Hello! Thanks for watching & I’m happy you enjoyed it! That’s an excellent question and now you have me wondering…. Most of my paper is 150lb 300gsm or heavier, and it may depend on how much water is used to blend. The Sennelier Oil Pastel Card I used in this video is 160lb 340gsm. Since these blend with water like Neocolors, I would feel it’s safe to say something like Canson Sand Grain (98lb 160gsm) would work well. That’s my favorite paper to use with Neocolors. It’s worth testing & comparing! 💖
@@artonthecreekthank you ! The paper I used was too thin 160gsm ! After using the water brush, if I go over with white crayon the paper wore off😢. My lesson learnt !
Thanks Chris! Are you using soft (chalk) pastels or oil pastels? The paper I used on this video is lovely-it’s Sennelier Pastel Card. For a much more approachable alternative and my favorite practice paper, I do have 2 more pastel videos up. In those I use Caran d’Ache Neocolor IIs. The methods are by in large the same for any pastels…the water solubility makes blending very simple! Here are those videos: Mandarin Orange Slices: ua-cam.com/video/uMBZBmvxSRY/v-deo.html Crocus in Snow: ua-cam.com/video/zx7vMDFzVz8/v-deo.html In both of those videos I have some really valuable tips & a link to the quality affordable paper I like. I will be taking more dives into oil & soft pastels, as well as Pan Pastels after World Watercolor Month is over. Until then, there are brilliant Pastel artists on UA-cam-look around and see who’s style you like!

No worries-I can see how some of the mediums might be confusing. Professional watercolor is a combination of pigment, gum Arabic & sometimes honey.
