LBP1 is more "3D" feeling because of the depth of the camera. The levels in general are more cramped and smaller with makes the layers themselves feel bigger. LBP2 and beyond have more scale to them, with a zoomed out camera, which makes the layers feel flatter.
LB1 looked very handcrafted. In my opinion this game's visual style suited sackboy the most. I always thought LBP1 looked a lot better than other games, but this video really sums it up. Great video.
The smoke physics in LBP1 are just way more realistic in general, like for score and prize bubbles. The new games look really good too, but they look more like vapor, rather than thick smoke, and the smoke in general is toned down.
When you change a background in LBP1, the background transitions really fast while LBP2 has a windy effect and blurs out the background before turning into the next background.

the line connecting the level to the UI was there in LBP2 beta and that "wave" is a sonar ping and the blue glow around electric objects is there but more diffused and less strong
This is another one I've noticed as a kid: the Thruster object also has a different effect. In LBP1, it emits a very small, blue flame, and a lot of smoke behind it, which was used for smoke machines a lot back in the day. However, in LBP2, they turned the flame to a normal orange and yellow colour, like the fire hazard, and they made the fire shoot out very far. The smoke is different, and the way that the fire moves is more like a particle effect than what LBP1 did, where it looks more like an animated texture, unless if it's a 3D model, but I dunno. It might also have a different effect while underwater, but I don't remember what it is, I never had the Pirates of the Caribbean DLC. I also feel like the lighting was different too. I'm not sure, but the colour feels different from LBP1 to 2. LBP1 feels cleaner and sharper. Try comparing a template level from LBP1 in night time versus that same template level in LBP2 in night time, you might notice something different. Explosion effects are also different. I assume they changed the graphical effects like the horrible gas for performance reasons, but I'm still honestly disappointed that they made the horrible gas such an ugly effect, it looks too simple.
The fire effect is so impressive. When I was a kid I was blown away by its quality and as someone who likes making stuff in 3d software, the fire still looks fairly good. I agree that performance reasons is likely for the changes, unfortunately.
Most of the graphical changes made sense, getting rid of things that didn't work or generally cleaning things up or improving performance. But I never liked the change to the toxic gas. In LBP you could actually make shapes out of the gas itself, or make thin layers of fog over things but in LBP 2 you it was just too big and messy. I never used it in anyway where you could see it. It really made some LBP community levels way uglier when playing them in 2.
I think lbp1 is a lot more motion blurry compared to lbp2. Also, I think that no matter what, the popit is pretty much always connected together in lbp1. And finally, the wires in lbp1 look extremely different than in lbp2

I always loved the bubble smoke and hazard particles in LBP1 far more than in the other mainline titles. The fire and horrible gas effects with their nice smoke effects stand out the most, and I highly wish they expanded on.

(This is based on what i remember from those 2 games so i might be incorrect about somethings) In LBP 1 when the impact and other explosive had blown up (I can't remember remember the name of the other explosive) they both had an effect that was somewhat like smoke that sorta floated around and up that also slowly faded away but in LBP 2 when the explosive was blown up it was more flame that I think disappeared quite quickly. Someone probably already said something about this but I was to lazy to look for a comment about it (Also I'm not good with punctuation so that is why this is typed out really bad)

Honestly the LBP1 UI looks much better compared to LBP2. LBP3's even worse, it's just a copy of the previous ui but squared for some reason and with even more fancy graphical effects removed. I think the next big graphical change on LBP4 should be about consistency on selecting a level from the pod and entering it, they should probably replace the initial checkpoint with just a miniaturized version of the player's pod and make it have a smooth landing animation, because the pod actually zooms into levels when the game's done loading them. So where does the pod go, is it contained inside of that initial checkpoint or something? WHY?
6:23 it is because it would make more sence for it to be plastic wrap because this is supposed to be a craftworld and its not supposed to look like a college kid did it its supposed to look like a young kid did it
The score multiplier is also different when your final multiplier is displayed. In lbp 1, the score appears for a few seconds, and then sort of… gasifies? In 2 and 3, it has a different sound and just kinda fades out

not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but in LBP1 you can see an object's material and stickers behind glass if the object is on fire. you can use it for secret LBP1 only messages or something because it doesn't happen in the other games

Have you noticed the lbp1 has strings on planets and lbp2 doesn't? Did you not notice it? It makes sense as how forgettable the strings on planets are.
I think the only reason why these were downgraded, or cut in LBP2 was because LBP2 was a bigger game. I mean if they kept all these, by LBP3 they would have to downgrad3 it HEAVILY just so it could fit on PS3, I mean if it can't handle scrolling down the popit, then yeesh..
Here is something that you did not notice: 1. the empty level outline is MORE ugly in LBP1 and the empty level outline is less ugly in LBP2/3 2. In the bolt's tweak menu in LBP1 whenever you change the the strength, the wrench screws but in LBP2/3 the wrench... seems to be not screwed 3. The jetpack in LBP1 is big and it has the blue flame but in LBP2/3 the jetpack is small and it has no blue flame. I wish they re-added those in LBP4! Edit: why did you unheart my comment...

it is not dead, there are actually tons of people who enjoy the game. and yes maybe not as much as modern games but still a handful! as for why i post about the game? well i enjoy LittleBigPlanet and have it so i can get experience with voice acting since i plan to do 2D animation is the future

When collecting score bubbles they emit a smoke and the multiplier indicator dissolves when you get it. On lbp2 or 3 the x2 is animated

Smoke machines in LBP1 have almost smoke made of PNG’s while 2 looks like the smoke is handled more by the game engine.
