China Southern and China Eastern are famous for bad in-flight dining experiences among big mainland carriers. Air China’s appetizer&dessert cart (similar to Lufthansa) and Xiamen Airline’s 3-star Michelin restaurant curated menu are definitely the top of the game right now. Sichuan Airlines and Hainan Airlines also have many special food options with regional flairs based their home city.
3:20 So basically, this is a trend in most narrow-body aircraft operated by Asian airlines, ideally the Airbus A320 family and Boeing 737s. This is done in the event of an equipment swap, such as going from a wide-body down to a narrow-body and vice versa, such that the airline does not have to issue new boarding passes to every single passenger and re-seat everyone.
The China southern in flight meal doesn’t look as bad as you said. The taste suits southern Chinese taste rather than international is probably why … all the meals you showed just speaks comfort to me 🥹🥹 I would totally cry if an airline served red bean soup for me. The last time I took juneyao domestic and they served me congee for breakfast I cried bc i loved it😭

Just took the 787 from China southern last week. As you shared, service was amazing but catering can be better! Upgrade at check-in is worth it as well because it probably cost less than 500usd to J class.
Hi Dan!! It's nice to see you tried out another Chinese airline, It is the best Chinese airline in my opinion. I only fly China southern in China because the on board service. Don't be so surprised, Chinese full service airline all provide slippers, magazines and meal option in business or first. I think it is because the competition is so tough in China so the airlines provide even more service. I wish you have a great experience with other China Southern flights. Fly safe!!
As someone who grew up in China and flew both domestically and internationally with many of their carriers I'm glad that they're finally catching up in terms of consistent quality and well delivered product. In the past and arguably still to an extent in the present, Chinese airlines were plagued with corporate & government connected corruption, as well as regionalism since it's a source of pride for the leaders of various cities and provinces (thus why you see different provincial airlines like Xiamen Airlines, Shanghai Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Hainan airlines, etc. today). The service has always been friendly and excellent as China places a heavy emphasis on the selection of their cabin crews, (some metrics going as far as having standards of body type, height, appearance, etc.) but a decade ago the language barrier was still an issue given many ground service crew and some flight crew didn't speak English that well and communicating with foreigners became very difficult. In addition, many aircraft were in a 2-2-2 business configuration. However, today, with upgraded products like what you just flew with a 1-2-1 configuration all with direct asile access, improved catering, and the same great hospitality, I have faith that Chinese airlines will be more attractive for flyers in the future. The main thing is for these airlines to improve their digital infrastructure (websites for ease of bookings by international travelers) and increased availability of their flights via reward flights which can make flying with them easier, as well as making themselves more accessible to a larger audience.
This is crazy. I live in Guangzhou, and had a trip to the UK earlier this year. I converted taking my first ever business class flight, so tried to look on UA-cam to see if it would be worth it. That led me to subscribing to you! And when I did get the flight, I also got seat 11a 😂
I've actually been to that lounge in Guangzhou when we were flying to the Uk to see family for the first time in three years because covid restrictions had just lifted in China. We booked it as an extra to our regular economy ticket so we didn't get the full expereince. At the time (Chinese new years 2023) the airport was basically empty, restrictions had only been lifted for a month or two up until that point, and so there werent many staff. The lounge was basically empty, and no one was manning the bar, we asked someone and they said help yourself! Slept like a baby on the flight after 3 very boozy rum and cokes! Good times.
I've been following you for years and I'm really glad that Oskar is now a fixture on the channel. So much better seeing you do these as a couple. Oh, and while I am an omnivore I am always looking at menus to see what the vegetarian/vegan options are. I live in Portland, Oregon so there is a lot of focus here on plant-based eating. When you said you wanted vegetarian my first thought was, oh no, you needed to ask for vegan. Um, wait. This is China. No difference between the two. 🤣
Great to see an in depth video from you @NonstopDan as there were very few videos showing the business experience on China Southern. Would recommend for anyone going from UK to Eastern regions as a business ticket may only be a few hundred more than an economy ticket on another mainstream airline! I flew China Southern business class from the UK to Sydney in Nov last year and can attest to the wonderful service on board. The cabin crew on the way back recognised me from the trip on the way there and gave such a warm welcome! Food on board was also great. The lounge was also a treat for a long layover - tip: if you are there for a long stop, ask to use their rest rooms. My dad and I used these for 4hrs of sleep and it made the journey back to the UK so much more bearable! They clean and change the sheets between guests and it was the standard of a decent hotel in these rooms. You have to ask for them though, they’re not freely offered!
I got food poisoning at one of the Bali lounges…. It was a ‘great’ trip back home… luckily the flight attendants on SQ were very alert and kept one toilet always clear for me on the long haul from sin to zrh….
That review is so accurate. The reason that business class starts at 5 is because in Chinese 4 is written as 四 and pronounced “si”but there is 死 which pronounced in same way but means die. I personally experienced that economy row starts at something like seat 24 and not 1 that’s why the last row is 81
Better flight than I had. I flew from Beijing to NYC. Everybody brought their own food and was stuffing themselves. Then we hit bad turbulence and they were all, I mean ALL, throwing up. It was absolutely mental.
It is very hard to book a Biz class on CS Air for somehow checking out about 3 months prior that all seats were sold out, even Premium Economy, but magically when you come to the check-in counter and show your plesant of wanting to upgrade, they will upgrade you to Biz class with a very high price without foods included (Last time I paid $2k NZD for it, roughly 10,000 RMB/CNY for Auckland to Guangzhou). Then the whole cabin was not fully occupied by passengers, even during the flight. Sleeping next to me is a flight attendant for real, despite all the seats being sold out on the website.
Delighted to watch this Dan,as you know or might remember,I’ve a CZ booked ,it’s Ams XIY on an A350 and the business class also starts at row 5 Flying back from Beijings new airport Service looks amazing ❤

I flew business class China Eastern over Easter and the food was actually pretty decent. Printed menus with “western” and traditional options. Much better than what you saw on China Southern. I’m flying China Southern in a couple weeks on the same jets. Looking forward to comparing. (6H & 6C) How long was your layover? They suggest they have some easy pass thru for connections but if you have to go back through security… that doesn’t seem efficient. Thanks Dan!

This was by far one of your better videos. It’s extremely difficult to get the level of service on ANY other airline than what you got on China Southern. I really hope that Rebecca got a huge increase in her pay for the downright exceptional service she provided you and Oskar.
Something I love about Chinese airline liveries. China Souther and Air China are so good. They just seem like the traditional liveries of airlines in the past.
Unfotunately I was served by a very lazy Southern China crew member a few weeks ago. In short she played tricks so some passengers didn't order drinks and she left out cake and icecream. I found out because later I saw what others were eating. And this is business class. I do agree with Dan there are many great things about this airline. Pricing is hard to beat.
Ever since taking Southern Airline for short haul flight, I've been constantly going back to them for my flights. I'll still choose them over Malaysia Airlines (which is what I usually take) and Singapore Airlines.
And you've not even tried the regular economy! Full meals on a 2 hour flight. Also allowed to bring 2 checked in bags plus a carry on and a backpack. Service with China Southern is insanely good!
I love your videos, keep your work Dan. Can you review Turkish Airlines's Business class (Boeing 787 or Airbus A350) or Comparing Business class on US big 3 (United vs Delta vs American) I think it would be interesting

They tend to thank me profusely and try to offer me something (i.e. extra bottles of water, food, souvenir) haha
Here you might spot the rarest plane which is a B747-400 registered as B-2447 for Air China. Nowadays, B747-400 has only 2 commercial airline operator(one is Rossiya and the another one is Air China), and Air China now only has 2 of them, one is B-2447 and another one is B-2472.
Dan ur literally my favorite to watch always enjoyable always want to fly on the airlines u give great reviews to ill definitely add this airline to my list of lists
I was sceptical about them but was pleasantly surprised when I tried them. I have flown China Southern economy between the UK and Australia and had the best airline breakfast I have ever had. They also had the most generous economy checked baggage allowance and was able to add a 3rd suitcase for just $100. Guangzhou is also a great transit airport.
Flew them a month ago. Despite getting to Guangzhou with plenty of time, we circled and circled and circled and eventually landed out in the arse end of the airport, next to what looked like a maintenance hanger. With about 45 minutes until our connecting flight and a 15 minute drive to the terminal we were given stickers and told to high tail it through the airport through immigration, "HURRY!" They were pushing people in front of us, only to realise that the existing people in the security line were the same people who were being pushed through for the Bali flight. "HURRY!" We ran and ran and ran and made it to the OPPOSITE END of the airport with 5 minutes left and got onto the connecting flight. Sure, we were in Economy, but the hard product was decent and, like yourself, the food wasn't anything to write home about, and the crew were functioning but not very welcoming - I would likely fly them again, but only if the price was unbeatable. Our return flight was with Thai and that was fantastic in comparison; the warmth of the crew, tasty food and the Thai 777 layout was just more comfortable in comparison to the China Southern 787.
I fly China Southern a lot and i think their service is really good for the price. They have some Narrow bodys with only 4 seats in Business class and they feel so premium compare to all other airlines some high end like Qatar.
Did you know that most Chinese people who had took a China Southern flight ,especially domestic flights, called the Airline “Cheap Southern Airlines ”,not because it’s cheap,it’s the meal they provide. You can't say that the meal is eatable, you can only say that it's “hard to swallow”.
The major airlines in China are state owned therefore they are able to operate at a lower cost. Also why the routes are more controlled (not monopolized). They offer a lot more than American operators. Even when you fly economy which I’ve done many times, they offer the same great service. No complaints on the food. Even when you fly domestic in China they offer checked and/or carry on bags. And full meal service. With the added benefit that the prices are always low. Wish this was the same here in the states. I’d rather have affordable flights with good service and bad food than bad service and bad food.
Dan, I think the in flight food on China Southern was actually worse than anything you get served on an American airline. Yikes! I hope you and Oskar have a great Thanksgiving. I am flying from Syracuse to National on Tuesday, flying my very first Baby Bus! That will be fun! As I'm usually hopping up and down the East Coast, I usually fly RJ900s or E175s, so this will be a nice change of pace. Have you ever flown China Airlines? There's a rumor going round that they want to change the name to Taiwan Airlines, Not a bad idea, if you ask me.
As Chinese I can say allergies seems out of our life, hardly you would hear someone says they allergic ton certain food. I guess it is not so convenient for the ppl around the world who is facing such problem. But love this video so much! Thank you!❤Also welcome you two to my country! Hopefully you enjoyed the time!
I kind of like the vintage look of chinese airlines. It's a good mix of not too vintage but not super sleak and modern either. It's just a nice in between.
I'm not so sure about the Monopoly fact? LGW to PVG is operated by both Air China and China Eastern. And LHR to Beijing is China Southern and Air China (different airports in Beijing though).
Even as a seasoned UA flight attendant, I can't answer all of the questions regarding the row numbers. Us flight crews are puzzled to. What I can tell you is UA removed row #13 for superstitious reasons. But as for why row #14 is gone? And why the 5th row on the A320 is actually row #7?? 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

We ran and ran and ran and made it to the OPPOSITE END of the airport with 5 minutes left and got onto the connecting flight.
Great video!!!!
Never say no to NonstopDan notifications 🤣🤣 Love from Malaysia❤
Thank you for this interesting video!!
Try Starlux or Cathay Aria next :)
As a Chinese, I would like to describe China eastern-the largest low cost airline in the world😂
I flew air china yesterday , the product as i. The seats where old and the screen old , but the crew where amazing and offered drinks very regular
I liked the food on Air China. Also free WiFi. And they told me 3 times to use the slippers...and they were right.
China Southern, always the best service. And before 2020, they had some of the best prices.
Dan sounds like they recognized you. Maybe they have seen your videos when they are outside china.
I love your videos ❤ as always W vid
Thank you!
Arrived at the airport the day the new terminal was opened, everything was new, even all the clothing of staff from police through to the cleaners!
Ooo new non stop dan video. It must be the first class review will Alex right. Surely he wouldn’t put that off any longer. 😂
I recently got a similar Salvatore Ferragamo amenity kit on Air India business class
I kind of like the vintage look of chinese airlines. It's a good mix of not too vintage but not super sleak and modern either. It's just a nice in between.
Not the high school pajama day pic!! 🤣🤣 Is that Oskar on the right?
Yes hahaha!
No locked 787 windows - always a good reason to fly an airline 👍🏻
The FA's fashion is giving 90's TVB Hong Kong drama series vibes. ifykyk.
Just came back from Guangzhou to Portugal 3 weeks ago :)
Impressive Flight Attendant!
Awesome flight.
