I'm so lucky to find your video. Thank you. This helped me like A LOT!!! I've been trying to find the fresh air intake for quite some time. Every time it rains, my A/C smells weird.
My wife has a 2020 cross sport and there is a musty smell after just 4-5months. I tried replace the air filter with a fram and it did nothing. Going to try this tomorrow and put in an activated charcoal filter, fingers crossed. Thanks for the video!
Have had this problem with our Atlas for 4 years. There must be a defect in the design. Our local dealer wouldn't help and kept using deodorizer/disinfectant. Helps for just a little while. The smell has been like wet gym socks to full out putrid rancid need all the windows down smell. My friend had a 2018 Atlas as well she got rid of because of this. Every time we report it the dealer says it's on us to put in a new air filter. That doesn't take care of it. I have never had a new car ever with this issue. Not even a used or older car. It is a VW specific issue. The HVAC in the Atlas has always made this sounds like something inside is trying to switch when you move from different settings - like swapping vent locations and from AC to vent etc. Finally, finally, our dealer got a new service manager who finally acknowledged he could hear the groaning and clacking noises in the system and the dealership pulled it all apart and fixed it - but did the smell get fixed? NO - it is smelling now more than usual. If you buy an Atlas - make darn sure you have a local dealer with good, reliable service. Our Atlas also has issues shifting correctly, and sometimes kind of takes off on it's own when you aren't accelerating. I want to trade my 2018 in for a 2022 but am afraid I'm just trading in for more issues that they won't care about.
Nice video but the big mistake here is that the AC must be turned OFF when spraying the disinfectant spray through the air intake under the hood. If you compare when the AC is off the duct will be open and sucking in air. When the AC is on a flap closes and you are just spraying the disinfectant on to the plastic door, nothing is actually going in the system.
@@cdubya3071 do both what? If you have the AC on you’d be spraying onto a closed plastic flap and nothing would be going into the system but if you want to waste your time then go for it
Have 2019 Atlas and this is a first for me after 4.5 years of ownership. Cabin filter did not help. Sprayed disinfectant into fresh air intake. Musty odor replaced by disinfectant smell. I assume it goes away. Has the fix lasted or will it be continuing problem?
Disinfectant smell goes away as did the musty odor. I did have the heater core replaced under warranty a while later because nothing coming out of the passenger side outboard vent. Not sure if that had anything to do with it, the problem has not returned.

A musty smell is from a growth. You can’t just spray a disinfectant perfume on it. You need to remove the contaminant.
How? Use a brush to clean the AC evaporator?
Mold is microbial. You have a way to scrub off something you can get to?

Yes, my 2018 Atlas has musty odor!
My 2015 Sportwagen smells like stinky feet mixed with vinegar 😂. Thank you.
Good job. Did you do this with your window up or down?
The windows should be down. Pls don't sit in car for at least 10 mins.

Any update?

Use koolit and don't pop the plastic up top in the front it's a pain to put back on . Feed the koolit through the filter entrance.
