I’m currently using this scholarship BUT be aware that BAH/MHA payments can/will be delayed unlike while using the GI Bill. The GI Bill paid out on/around the 1st on a monthly basis BUT this STEM scholarship operates a little differently. Over the last 3mths my BAH and tuition has paid out as late as 2.5-3wks late. Just a heads up so you can budget and prepare accordingly and not left short handed.

I completed my undergraduate in Neuroscience and still had 13 months of GI bill left. I used that for PA school. The yellow ribbon program covered the last 2 months of my 15 month preclinical year. My clinical year starts on the 22nd of August. The stem scholarship is going to pick up where my gi bill left off. I applied and got accepted but another veteran in my class got denied for some reason. It’s worth a shot.

Communication Sciences and Disorders is the undergraduate degree before going on to earn your master's in Speech-Language Pathology or doctorate in Audiology (to become a speech therapist or audiologist), so that might be what the VA is considering "undergrad residency" as well.. currently in my junior year of this program and planning to apply for the STEM scholarship.
Any insight on if you're approved for the scholarship does it pick up where you're GI Bill left off once you've exhausted all of your GI Bill? Like is it continuous if your GI bill ends in the middle of a semester?

    • @jasonburds
      @jasonburds  2 роки тому

      Thanks for that insight Kayla!
The GI Bill will not run out mid semester. If your days off entitlement end miss semester, the VA will honor it until the end of the semester. That being said, if you are approved for this scholarship, it would pick up the following semester.

I'm currently a 2nd year PT student and I'm trying to navigate this.
I just received a response today from my veterans whoever guy at the school and he mentioned this:
"Our PT program isn’t currently listed on the list of approved programs, but it could be added to the list, the request would come to our School Certifying Official and he would have the opportunity to review and attempt to add the PT program then."
Tl;dr Make sure your school is on the "approved list" because theres always more hoops to jump through.
Also, I applied recently and was denied [I assume] because I had 6 months and 2 weeks of GI Bill remaining. Probably the not being "approved," too.

I'd like to try to use the program to go for a Master's in Wildlife Biology or Ecology though. From my understanding, I probably wouldn't qualify right? Since it's a graduate degree I'd be extending it for instead of an undergrad?

That's correct. It's not intended for use towards graduate school. I would highly recommend checking out my video on VR&E/GI Bill 2.0. if you can switch over to that ASAP, you'll save GI Bill and be able to put it towards grad school. Might be too late to cover everything, but if you qualify it would be a good route.

I had less than 6 months in my Post-911 GI Bill at the beginning of my Autumn Quarter '21-22 at DePaul University. I'm enrolled in a dual-degree program (Bachelor of Science in Business (BSB), major in Actuarial Sciences & Master of Science in Applied Mathematics). Which is a 5 year program I entered as a transfer Junior. My STEM Scholarship was denied stating not being in an approved degree program. I'm working with a VSO to submit my appeal because we believe they erroneously considered the BSB as not eligible, even though Actuarial Sciences is on the STEM designated list by the VA. Hopefully this gets approved so I can finish my degree program debt-free.

We Denied your claim for the STEM Scholarship because You are not enrolled in an eligible program. By law, all STEM Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in a Standard Undergraduate degree program or dual degree program in biological or biomedical science; physical science; science technologies or technicians; computers and information science and support services; mathematics or statistics; engineering; engineering technologies or an engineering related field; a health profession or related program; or an agriculture or natural resources science programs; Or be enrolled in a COVERED CLINICAL TRAINING PROGRAM for Health Professionals (38 USC 3320). @kevincruz1422 Рік тому

This is what I've found based on if Medica, PA, NP school is covered.
Covered clinical training for the purposes of the STEM Scholarship is defined as post graduate clinical training. These include residency and healthcare-related FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS. Covered clinical training DOES NOT include clinical training that is part of an approved undergraduate or GRADUATE degree program. Residency and Fellowship programs typically occur in a hospital or other healthcare setting. These clinical training programs are generally reported in CLOCK HOURS rather than as credit-bearing programs.
Graduate level programs are payable when they are part of an approved dual degree program. The dual degree program must include at least one undergraduate degree and at least one of the undergraduate degree programs must be STEM qualifying. Covered clinical training does not include clinical training that is part of an approved undergraduate or graduate degree program

I will be using VRE Ch31 to finish with my degrees. My question is, if I use VRE can I still apply for the STEM scholarship once I get my 60 credits and begin going for my bachelor's? I ask because the BAH is much more from the scholarship than from VRE since I used all my GI Bill. @@jasonburds yes, it was last added/updated onto the stem list on March of this year. It’s under “health professions and related programs”

So I'm confused, hopefully someone can clarify this- one of the minimum eligibility requirements for this scholarship is to be in a 120 credit program. However respiratory care, ultrasound, and radiology tech are all on that massive list of approved programs- all much less than 120 credits to complete. Does that mean if i am in the middle of a rad tech program, have less than 6 months left on my GI Bill, and apply for this I should be good to go?

Hey man! So, I'm in the same situation. I'm currently in my 3rd semester for respiratory care program at a community college. I have 2.5 months left of my Post 911 GI bill and it will be fully exhausted by the end of this summer(summer class 2023). I literally have 3 semester(fall 2023, spring 2024, and summer 2024) left to graduate and I will have no POST 911 to help me cover those semester. So, I applied for the STEM scholarship and was hoping it got approve for this program, but it didn't! I called the VA and they told me that its not a bachelors program and they cant grant community college level program... I was shock because technically, RT, ultrasound, and rad school is a HIGH DEMAND STEM program, and majority of these programs are taught at a community college with associate degree level. It just doesn't sense for my denial because im at a RT program community college level.... Luckily, the STEM did approved me for the University of Missouri (health science BA program), in which I will be attending after graduating RT school. Good luck man!

@Sokcheaph Benn Damn bro really? Why would they even have it on the list of approved programs? That really sucks... what number did you call to get this info? Thanks for the reply!
