  • Hello, my name is Sofia and I am a Swedish model living and working in Seoul, South Korea! 💖✨
    Welcome to my series called “Modelling in Korea”. I created this series to let you in on the things I think is essential to know before moving to Korea on a E6 visa, to work as a model or entertainer.
    It’s many peoples dream to live to Korea and become a model, but it’s not always the easiest path to follow. You’re gonna face a lot of hardships and find yourself in difficult situations where you need to know how to help yourself finding the best solution.
    This series is by no means created to discourage you but to inform you of the things you might not know before moving abroad. I can not give you any legal or personal advice, all I’m sharing is based on my own experiences. I encourage you to do your own research and make the best decisions for yourself.

    This was a helpful introductory video! I have a few questions I’m hoping you can enlighten me on:
    - Did you go through a mother agency from your home country, or did you find your Korean agencies on your own?
    - Are you automatically on a “freelance” contract once you sign with an agency in Korea? Or do you need to specify that you want to be freelance opposed to exclusive?
    - Is there an age that is “too old” in Korea? My mother agency in Canada is very open and we have a very diverse roster (age, size, ethnicity, etc.), and I’ve never experienced modeling in an Asian country yet
    - How strict would you say the measurements are? I know there is an industry standard, but how strictly does Korea adhere to them?
    Thank you! 🖤

      Hello! Thank you for your comment. ☺️ I’m glad you found it helpful!
      1. I did not go thorough a MA from my home country, I came to Korea to look for an agency on my own! 😊 you can go through a MA tho, I think it might m be the easiest to be honest. I sadly don’t have any experience with that so I’m not sure if I can give good advice 😢
      2. No you’re not automatically on a freelance visa, it depends on the agency! However it’s most common that agencies who sponsors E6 visas (long term entertainment visas) will only sign freelancers. ☺️ ofc this is up to the agency you sign with! There’s also the C4 visa (only 3 months visa) which I think is most common among models who sign through their MA and are just looking to stay shortly (and I doubt that these agencies would let you do freelance!). But as I mentioned in my video I have no experience with a C4 visa so I don’t want to really speak on it since I don’t know hahah but im living in Korea on an E6 visa. 🤗
      3. I can’t speak for modelling agencies who only work with models coming through their MA’s, I would assume they’re more strict than Agencies who sign E6 visas. Typical “foreigner agencies” are the ones that sign longer contracts as freelancers and I think they might not be as strict since they expect you to find your own work and not rely on them, it that makes sense? But to answer your question: I’ve meet freelance models on E6 visas of all ages, ethnicities and sizes! 😊
      4. This once again depends on your agency and client. ☺️ my agency has never asked me to loose weight or anything such, the only thing they ask for is that I’m honest with my measurements so if they find a client for me that give the right information. Have I ever encountered agencies who asked me to loose lots of weight? Yes I have, even when I was at my skinniest. I am already in the slimmer side so I haven’t had a lot of problems with clients, but then again they booked me they already knew my measurements so I never really had a problem! And even if they gave me some comment I never took it to heart since they knew what they booked 😊 I have worked with models of all sizes, cause clients these days do request more diversity than before but I’d still say it’s not as diverse as I would assume Canada or Sweden is! I have heard some agencies here are very strict but I’ve been lucky enough to only sign with ones that aren’t strict on my measurements.
      I hope this was to some help, sorry if it’s confusing haha I did my best trying to answer but also keep it short~ it can be kinda confusing with the different visas and agencies ^^’

    hello Sofia, my name is Jessica (18) and I'm from Austria. I have a question regarding to reaching out to companies if I want to work for them as a freelance model in Korea. How do I approach them or get in contact with them? Do I send them a photo book of myself already? Since I will be moving to Korea with my family next year, I would like to know if I can get in touch with them and sign a contract for the time I go there . I'm currently not doing any modeling job, but I'm interested in this kind of entertainment for quite a while, so I would be glad if you can aswer this question☺

    When you say you can only work in entertainment on an e-6 visa. If you have experience working in ent/music business in ur home country and it’s remote work , can it be done? Or does all entertainment work have to be booked through ur agency in Korea?

    • @vinterglitter
      @vinterglitter  10 місяців тому

      Hello! Thank you for your comment! That’s a good question, I’ve never worked remotely to my home country but I’m assuming if you get paid in your own country and not to a Korean account the money don’t have to go through your agency (since the money is not earned in Korea) but I’ve never done this so I don’t know and I also don’t know what agreement you will have with your agency. ^^
      However on the E6 visa in Korea you can only work within the entertainment industry and no other side jobs like working extra at a cafe, as a teacher etc.
      I’m sorry if I could t give a better answer since I have no experience with this specific scenario;;; ✨

      Hi! Thank you for your comment. ✨ hmmm difficult to say! When I was looking to get signed 4 years ago it definitely helped that I was already living in Korea but these days I’ve heard about many getting signed from abroad (meaning: them being in their home countries)! So I would definitely start contacting agencies even if you’re outside of Korea and if you have any planned trip you can always mention that you’re available for in person meetings at that time! ✨ so don’t limit yourself, some agencies might prefer you already being here and some might not care!
      Hope that was to any help~ ✨

      @@vinterglitter I've heard this before as well but to me it's the most confusing part. If you need to have a visa to come to Korea to live, then how can you live here prior to obtaining one? Another video I saw said they came as a tourist and found an agency to sponsor them while in Korea, but my understanding is that you need to apply for the E6 visa from outside of Korea? It's contradictory lol or I am not understanding something

    • @vinterglitter
      @vinterglitter  9 місяців тому +4

      @@KendallDanford yes sorry it’s so confusing, isn’t it? ;;;; so what you can do is, as you said, one here on:
      1: a tourist visa, find an agency and the jump over to japan, hongkong or any other country with a Korean embassy/consulate and there you can apply for your visa. You then have to wait for them to issue the visa and then you can go back ti Korea on an E6 visa. 👏
      Or 2: come to Korea on a student visa and look for an agency while studying. Alternatively come on a Working Holiday visa (H1) and the. You got longer time to look for an agency. Important to note is that you’re not allowed to work as a model in any of these visas (neither when you come as a tourist)
      Or 3: contact agencies from your your home country/abroad, sign and then apply for the visa at your closest embassy/consulate!
      The 3rd option is the cheapest I’d say, since you’re not spending Money on flights to Korea + hotel. If you look from your home country you can keep working and saving up money while looking for agencies.
      I hope that cleared it up a little bit 🙏💗

      My agency sends a tax invoice to the client I work with/ casting agent who casted me (so basically to who ever pays for the shoot I’m doing). They pay my agency who then pays me! 🤗✨ hope that helped ~~

    • @vinterglitter
      @vinterglitter  Рік тому +2

      Hello, thank you for your comment! I would say that every agency has different requirements. It also depends if you're looking to do high fashion / runway or e-comers etc. I'm 170cm and i've been too short and tall for some jobs 😊

    • @vinterglitter
      @vinterglitter  10 місяців тому +2

      @@cinnamorollbabyy hello~ no I wouldn’t say that’s too short!! It’s just up to the clients~ I’ve been asked for castings that needs models taller than 173cm and castings for models with a maximum height of 168cm and I’m 170cm so I couldn’t apply for any of those shootings ✨ but I’ve met models of many different heights and some of the models I know that done really well here has been between 160cm - 165cm! In the end I think the height is not too important. They care about image and if you are good at being photographed and can do a good job then you’re gonna be easy to book! So practice posing and understanding your angles ✨I hope that helped 💗
      (So what I wanna say is that height isn’t the most important unless you’re trying to be a runway model, so don’t get too hung up on that!)
