I have been out of the gym for almost 15 years. Mind you I was working out six days a week for 10 years. Watching and listening to you has got me back into the gym and I owe it to you. I want to reach out and say thank you… You have been a huge impact on my life and where I’ve been in my life. That’s another chapter which I will not get into. Thank you very much Jay. God Bless you and family.. I’m off to the gym right now.
I am getting back into the gym after nearly 10 years hiatus :( started with an injury from a crash which had me stop for two months, then gradschool + full time job, ect. I am much better off right now, older, easilly gaining weight at home, and am nostalgic for how it felt to drop 35lbs and actually drop a shirt size watching you train for one of your last Olympias. I love how authentic you are. I need to make the changes that will help me build the body I need to help improve my health and also lower stress on my joints from obesity
What you say about how to learn to train back then resonates with me. I too watched others train. I also read magazines, especially Arnold's encyclopedia of modern bodybuilding. This book is a Bible and the pages are quite torn and underlined from use. Arnold was a God to me. A model. Today, you are my inspiration. Not in terms of training but rather in terms of motivation to continue training. We're the same age and going to the gym is a struggle every damned day. Even though i'm happy once there. But to think about the humble and calm way you act in the gyms, the selfless way you act with those around you, the encouragement you give to others, your willingness to tell a woman that she lifts more than you , all this motivates me to do the same at the gym. Even if I'm not you. Even though I am myself and secure with who I am. We always need a role model and that's what you are for me (just like other people in other fields). My dad, Jordan Petersen, Barack Obama, Paul Stanley (Kiss), Arnold, Sly, Neil degrasee Tyson, James Cameron, Pastor Arnold Murray, Rocket Richard (hockey)... and Jay Cutler. What do they all have in common? Each has a facet of something in which I recognize myself or I would like to recognize myself. Role models despite their imperfections. I wish everyone to find their own models of inspiration. One thing is certain, when it comes to training, nutrition, discipline and how to be and interact in a gym, I wish everyone to have you as a model. The Jay Cutler way.
Jay is the Legend, supported T bar rows r one hardest back movements to me . Reason support/ pad is cutting some of your airway off ..😊 bent over rows very demanding also..
I always have back pain when not doing dead lifts or squats for several days. An article said something about hypermobility of the lumbar segment as to why they help, but didn't really understand why this works for me. Great video! Nice to see Jay more serious and determined.

That hammer reverse grip pulldown for me is the perfect arc. Nothing hits my lats like that machine. Do them in pretty much every workout. Dorian is also a big fan of those. Thanks for the video Jay.
I like to rack pull to start back day- sometimes superset with bodyweight pullups. my deadlift day is between days 4&5 with accessories such as add&abd calves &core. Heavier rack pulls make for aa easier deadlift from the floor 🐸

I remember this past Thursday I woke up and really didn’t want to get my leg day in. Arrived at the gym and told myself I really don’t feel like lifting today. Half way through my workout I was amped and feeling great. One of the best leg workouts I ever had.
It's funny how things get put in front of us to hear and see. You talk about struggles and for me right now life is a struggle. Same theories apply. Thank you. The gym for me is a sanctuary and happy place!!
Jay is still one of my biggest inspirations, I remember back in highschool in about 2014 I was scrolling UA-cam in the library and came across Jay’s video of the day in the life (slo mo jump into the pool video) and eversince watching your video that day I was absolutely hooked! I’ve drifted in and out of working out since but eversince August last year I have been hard at it. Always continue to shine the light on the hardest game for the human body. All the best wishes from Australia buddy! 🇦🇺💪🏻
Hey Jay, Long time viewer. I love the reverse grip pull downs and i never tried them until i saw them in one of your 09 documentary videos. I met you when you visited Pendleton a while back, I got one of your quad stomp posters autographed and it made my decade 😅 it was lost in the move back home but the memory is there forever. Thank you for continuing to post and love to watch the routine even if it hasn’t changed!
Hi Jay, I stopped barbell deadlifting some time ago, and swapped it out for a trap bar dead lift augmented with heavy rack pulls… pulling from just under the knee. I don’t miss standard deadlifts at all.
I like techno gym(PlateLoaded Lat Machine) the previous Gym I was at had one but the current Gym I use doesn’t. I like single arm with reverse grip to pull it in then Lat Pulls. But need to incorporate overhead Lat Pulls again with a dumbbell even
One arm cable rows and pull downs work my muscle fibers the most out of all of the back workouts I do and I do a lot of difficult exercises on back day. Second is pull ups.
Hey Jay , you’re the Best. Really enjoy watching your videos. I can’t wait to see you in North Carolina in April. I like deadlifts too, so many muscles worked out which is great. I just don't want injuries so I stick to 225lbs - 245lbs 8-10reps a set, for 4 sets total.
Hi mate have just been diagnosed with advanced proste cancer could you give us some ideas to keep mass on and build muscle. There's alot of us at the gym .thank you
I really want to do a "fit for fifty" and use cutler nutrition protein but $61 per LB for protein powder (Canadian dollars) seems a lot! Have to order from site and convert USD to CAD. Anyone have suggestions for good protein at a better price point?
I wonder if deadlifts are really necessary? I have done them most of my life. I used to always do them first, but now do them a little lighter towards the end of the workout as I'm trying to focus more on bb and not just lifting heavy weights. But I've been having hip and low back pain for the past couple years and don't know of its squats or deads causing it or something else. I switched to hack squats and sumo dead a couple months ago and no real improvement as far as pain, but it doesn't seem to bother me while performing the lifts, just after.
Do you find yourself having to up the volume of your workouts due to lower time under tension per rep. I personally have been following a program where it's usually only about five movements 3 sets of 8 to 12 sometimes 15, which I have been really finding boring not having the variety you have, doing more exercises less time per rep but overall more reps.
are dead lifts needed? I was like a robot repeating what so many guys said ''Deadlifts will make your waist thicker". After seeing the heavy weights and their back thickness, I was convinced to try deadlifts, I am a hyper responder, tried it out, got home and yep! My obliques significantly grew and that was the last time. I have been training heavy rows both free and machine and have added lying back extensions with weights to mimic deadlifts for the erectors and traps. My back has responded so well ever since.
Back is tough to develop! I'm in my early 50s and still don't have a strong back. It's tough to connect to the muscles. So much so, I quit training arms! When I was younger I noticed my Limbs were my strong point - Legs and Arms. But my torso was tougher to connect to - Chest and Back. Although there are some exercise I feel more. For example, the barbell row I feel much more than the DB row. I experimented with how I position the DB and noticed if I hold it like a barbell then twist (bring my elbow in toward the top) I feel it more. Also, for years it was said to use your arms as 'hooks', this was difficult to comprehend. I eventually learned to lead with your elbows which makes more sense. Still the Back is tough to develop. I suppose you have to find exercises that you connect with. Some pro Bodybuilders say that Pull-ups are essential. I used to do 10-12 reps/ 5 sets when I was younger. These days I can barely do 3! But then I use a band to get more reps and then even superset that with a set of pulldowns. I guess you just have to experiment.
