For the Austrian stamp, I believe it wasn't only to help bring general awareness, but most importantly, a direct attempt to help those women who were experiencing domestic violence. Often they're too scared to speak out or too scared to leave the relationship and home for fear of reprisals. Even if someone was forbidden to leave the house, they probably would still have received letters and cards from relatives to the home. Seeing that stamp on an envelope would surely be a major wake-up call to the danger they were in, and could perhaps be enough to drive them to make that decision to get out. And if that stamp helped even one person of any gender to get out of that type of situation, it was worth putting that image on the stamp. I have thankfully never been a victim of domestic violence, but I have close relatives who have. The same applies to the Austrian stamp highlighting the effects of drug use. Thank you for this video on the spooky stamps. The Equitorial Guinea stamp was a worthy winner! :)
I was wondering about that! The use of stamps to encourage victims to speak up, perhaps even more likely to encourage friends and family to speak up and take action… the imagery definitely makes you stop and think, I hope that the campaign had at least 1 success story!
Thanks Graham, that was an interesting topic. I hadn't realised there were so many creepy and unusual stamps out there. And I am sure there's plenty more to go. Keep up the great work on your channel. Denis.
Thanks Karen! If I recall correctly, you have a few stamps from this list already, the dead cosmonauts and reign of death I think 🤔. You should TOTALLY build that collection up and gather some more creepy stamps 💀 😊
Thank you for including the Canadian Haunted Canada stamps. I agree that none are creepy enough to make the top 10 so I appreciate their inclusion on the honourable mention list. It was fun going through and voting on the stamps and getting to see the final winners. Thanks for doing this Graham!
Thank you for voting and being a part of this top 10 experience. It was the most fun that I've had crowd sourcing information for a stamp video. Glad you enjoyed it!! 😊💀
Always entertaining!! This was great, Graham. Well done to the community for building such an interesting list, I didnt know about any of these stamps.
Thank you for this very nice presentation! Two additions here: 1. The 2016 Agatha Christie stamps of the UK, which reveal hidden clues upon interaction - cute creepy; 2. Romania issued three philatelic products for the 1971 Soviet cosmonauts: - the stamp you presented - a perforated sheet - an imperforated sheet. This later is still the most sought after and least available stamp of Romania since the 1960s, and originally it was not sold in the country except to a few subscription-holders. It was sold only abroad for hard currency.
I did't know that the winning stamp really depicts dead people but always assumed its just a bad artwork. 😅Thanks for dicovering this story for all of us! 😀
Great list! I think I was one of the viewers who submitted the Equatorial Guinea for consideration for the list when you first asked for nominees. Ironically, I do not own the stamp but saw it once on Twitter a few years ago. Some genuinely creepy stamps on this list!
I’m learning that as well 😆, some folks hate spiders, others don’t see how they could be creepy. And that is true for several of these like Pinocchio. Glad you enjoyed it Kelvi, thanks for watching!
I seem to have missed this episode before... that meant I still had a great episode to watch. Some of these creepy stamps are actually really cool and I knew only two of them, including the stamp portraying the three deceased cosmonauts. Thanks again Graham, for the great content, really enjoyed watching it and learned something again!
A very interesting and unusual top 10 creepy postage stamps. For me personally, the 1946 Polish postage stamp was very creepy. It depicts a concentration camp, above it is an image of an SS soldier in the form of death, who is holding poison gas in her hands. This image is creepy not only because of its appearance, but also the meaning, since so many people were tortured and killed there.
That is such a creepy stamp! I was SO SURPRISED that it didn’t get voted anywhere close to the top 10. I even purchased the stamp prior to opening the poll because I was convinced it would be an easy 3rd place (at least). Thanks so much for watching 😊
Thanks for this video Graham I loved seeing how the votes turned out and also hearing your reactions to the stamps 😂. I got the Pinocchio one in a pack and yes exclaimed something like 'what the heck is this scary stamp !??' when I saw it.

Thanks Lawrence!! Yeah I agree there are a lot of other stamps out there that can be argued as a top creepy stamp. It’s an engaging topic that folks seem to find really interesting. Thanks for watching!
Great Video. I actually have the #1 stamp in my space topical collection. Didn’t know the story about the stamp. It’s really interesting there is so much history about a little piece of art. Thanks Buzza Wuzza! The Turkey stamp really is an interesting one, I see the cool cartoonish style. I went looking but I wasn’t able to get one, I got most of the others though, most are super cheap but hard to find. Thanks for watching!
Always looking forward to your SPLENDID and ENTERTAINING show. However, I missed the mentioning of yet a 3rd creepy Austrian stamp. It was part of a set issued shortly after ww2, that sought to distance the country from Nazi war crimes. It depicted a skull, emerging from behind a mask of a certain Mr. Adolf, and was eventually censored and thus not released. It is depicted ln many catalogues, and i believe that some stamps have indeed survived. A whole category of stamps that i also missed from the list are the anti-smoking campaigns, which are often pretty gore in their imagery. I like the one from Greenland. May be a polar bear created this with the description: Success, diner time, baby. The first place is original, I didnt know that the set exists. But definitive worth looking for it. Ok, it was a tragedy for the three, but creating such a stamp? Number 1 is well earned.
The Angry Boy was one of the first stamps I had in my collection. As I took up collecting in the early 2000's and I didn't have the Internet I thought this stamp was about children's rights or a sort of an anti-war poster. So you can imagine how surprised I was having found out that this crying child is a sculpture
The Weeping Angel never got to me from Dr Who. Yeah, thought it was creepy, but they just don't otherwise bother me. Yeah, it's sad they separate you from your loved ones, but then you are sure to have a long life after. Sad start, but not all that bad of an ending. The ones that made me wet myself worried I will see coming out of the fog at me: Those children with the gas masks for faces! That whole "Are you my Mummy?" gave me nightmares.
Interesting! I don’t know much (or really anything) about the Dr Who world, so seeing the weeping angels was quite frightening for me. 😆😅. Thanks so much for watching!!
U.S. “Phantom of the Opera” Stamp (along with three other “Classic” Universal Studios “Horror” characters); U.S. “Headless Horseman” (Legend of Sleepy Hollow-Walt Whitman) Stamp; several North Vietnamese graphic “War Stamps” (i.e., bayonet killing, mid-flight destruction of U.S. B-52 bomber) ; uncertain about the next topic but surely there is a stamp that depicts France’s “National Barber”-the Guillotine!
Correction! “Washington Irving” NOT “Walt Whitman” is the author of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”-“O, Captain, my Captain” must have experienced “a Senior moment!”
A quick google search reveals a Jersey (Great Britain) Stamp with a guillotine and prospective candidate… Another block of four depicts Dr. Guillotine amidst the French Revolution!
I love stamps and whilst researching other topics I came back to stamps and found your channel. I even started a stamp cancellation book. You also had me thinking, Could you use national park cancellation stamps for postage cancellation? I mean it would be like a fancy cancel but not quite..
This episode was so wonderful, as for the different seal, the Doctor Who one I loved, when I saw the seal on the bear I thought he was putting the human to sleep 😴 now I know better 🙈 I was scared of the seals on war bodies, like me I believe a lot in energy, I wouldn't have this type of stamp in my collection, you mentioned that you didn't know the story of the princess and the frog, in short: the princess promised to kiss the frog if he gave her back his ball, he gave it back and she didn't kiss him, A The story of the princess and the frog teaches children and adults the importance of always keeping the promises we make, no matter how much it costs us. In this case, a promise that the princess had struggled to keep provided her with an unexpected reward. This classic tale was written and made popular by the Brothers Grimm. Graham as always congratulations🎉
I think I prefer my own ‘take’ on stamp collecting: I collect stamps because they are made by countries putting their best forward with the help of the greatest artists and engravers of their history and times. I should also say my cutoff is some time in the mid seventies. “Julie land? Yeah … I live here.”
great list for HALLOWEEN...As a fan of DOCTOR WHO yes it was a creepy WEEPING ANGEL...I've seen the story...I haven't seen any stamps that feature halloween from Bewitched or i dream of jeannie.
At first I thought the 2023 Chinese year of rabbit would make it to the list, but after learning other creepy stamps I started to think it's not that creepy, even kind of cute
2:39 Sweet! I've actually been working for quite some time on guiding AI to create some remarkable images with you specifically in mind. I'm hoping to get a small parcel out to you in time for Christmas 2023!
Oh and just a heads up, my PO box is closing at the end of December and not being renewed in case you try to send anything in January. I will do one last mail day in Jan or Feb.
Yeah I saw his drawings, but what is the reason for having a smiley face on the hand and finger tips? Is it just because it is his style, maybe its well known and connects with the people in France? I tried looking for more info and didn't find anything 🤔
Ghee, some creepy and horrifying stamps. I didn't know any of them, and was amazed that such stamps even exist. Even though death should be normal and acceptable, the #1 Guinea Equatorial dead cosmonauts stamp conjured up for me sadness and the horrible way they died and unexpected fear for death and dead bodies. Indeed creepy. I can just not imagine what those Bangladesh stamps must look like! Dead and scary babies are my ultimate fear, and that baby monster that comes up due to dead and nameless babies and who might run towards you was the ultimate scary stamp for me. Creepy is indeed in the eye of the beholder, in the original list I remember the wheta stamp, which I could not understand could get on a creepy list. The spider though, which one should also admire as part of the wonderful diversity of nature, will unfortunately bring up my arachnophobia, and I am sure would at first glance caused me to throw the envelope as quickly as possible as far away as possible on instinct. The ice bear killing the human I really appreciated and liked, not finding it creepy at all - fitting punishment for human race causing the death and untimely extinction of such a large part of nature which cannot defend itself. Thanks Graham, a scary, but another original and magnificent video.
Hi Graham first Bora Bora Girl is here, yes very interesting subject, I have got so many stamps there must be some creepy ones among them. found one recently a czech stamp in memorial of the reprisal massacre of Lidice after the assination of Reinhard Heydrich knowing the story well the stamp well it has its own page in honour of the victim's, the subject matter horrifys me Kevin how do i vote in your top ten?
Oh wow I’ll need to look that stamp up. If I do another top ten, I announce it on a video and on social media with a link to vote or nominate. So glad to see the Bora Bora girl arrived! 😃
FANTASTIC VIDEO AGAIN...I AM FROM ISTANBUL TURKEY...HERE IS THE TRUE STORY ABOUT THE WEIRD AND EXTRAORDINARY STAMP AT 14.37... BOTH 1976 AND 1977 ARE THE YEARS THAT HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WERE KILLED IN THE TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS...THOUSANDS OF THEM ARE ALSO WOUNDED...BOTH WERE REALLY DISASTROUS YEARS... BECAUSE OF THIS THE TURKISH GOVERNMENT DECIDED TO WARN THE TURKISH CITIZENS RELEASING SUCH POSTAGE STAMPS... HOWEVER, THIS PARTICULAR ONE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE ...IN FACT, IT IS A SIX PIECE SET OF STAMPS , INCLUDING THE BASIC TRAFFIC WARNINGS AS : DO NOT SPEED UP ! ALWAYS WATCH THE SPEED LIMITS IN YOUR AREA... DO NOT OVERLOAD ! ( REGARDING ABOUT THE BIG VEHICLES LIKE TRACTORS FULL OF VILLAGE PEOPLE , MOSTLY KIDS AND WOMEN GOING TO THE LOCAL WEDDING CEREMONIES ) NEVER DRIVE TOO CLOSE TO THE LEADING VEHICLE ! ALWAYS LEAVE ENOUGH SPACE... DRIVE SLOWLY...SLOW DOWN WHEN YOURE CLOSE TO THE PEDESTRIEAN ZONES...AND SOME LIKELY OTHERS... THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR EFFORTS...KEEP UP WITH GOOD WORK...BYE...
Nice! The Austrian ones are definitely creepy, there was another one from Austria raising cancer awareness that didn’t make the list, also SUPER creepy. Thanks for watching.
I think the Circus stamp issued by the U.S. is the creepiest one ever issued by the U,S, It just reminds me of the killer clowns. In my opinion it should have never been issued, as it would deter me from going to any circus. I must wonder how many children got nightmares from it. Great video this week. How about one of the best stamps bring mental retardation to the public? I know the U.S. has one really good one.
OK let me be the lone contrarian in saying the Australian red-backed spider stamp has no place on a list most creepy stamps, let alone a #2 ranking. What I think is really at play here is fear per se not creepiness. I'd venture to guess the folks who voted for it were mostly confirmed acracnophobes of the only-good-spider-is-a-dead-spider school of thought, so the outcome isn't that surprising. Highlighting venomous spiders like the red-backed or the black widow on a US stamp awhile ago seems to me more informative than creepy, but that's just me.
For the Austrian stamp, I believe it wasn't only to help bring general awareness, but most importantly, a direct attempt to help those women who were experiencing domestic violence. Often they're too scared to speak out or too scared to leave the relationship and home for fear of reprisals. Right?!? Some of these stamps really surprised me. Thanks so much Erica!

Thank you Denis. So glad you enjoyed it 😊
Whoa, number 1 is the creepiest, but there were some others that were close to it! Thanks Graham! Another great program.
💀 😆 Thanks Nyle, glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic list! I've very tempted to start a collection of creepy stamps
Thanks Karen! If I recall correctly, you have a few stamps from this list already, the dead cosmonauts and reign of death I think 🤔. You should TOTALLY build that collection up and gather some more creepy stamps 💀 😊

@@byronsbraindo it Karen! I haven’t heard of any ‘creepy stamp’ collection, this could be a unique space that you pioneer 👻😃
Some great stamps, I feel sorry for the postal workers that had to deal with that spider stamp. #2 was definitely the worst in my opinion, great vid
Number 2 was no surprise when it got so high up in the list. yikes!. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching 😊

Wait! That Pinocchio image went from his nose piercing his collar to suddenly NOT piercing his collar. Spooky.
👀🫣 yup!!
My fav made the list! Polar bear at #10. Overall a great assortment of disturbing stamps. Thanks for another great video!
🐻❄️ that might be my favorite as well 😅
Thanks so much for watching and participating!!

I loved the episode. Excellent work. Of course I have far more creepier stamps, but that is my opinion and I am unanimous in that.
Thanks Lawrence!! Yeah I agree there are a lot of other stamps out there that can be argued as a top creepy stamp. It’s an engaging topic that folks seem to find really interesting. Thanks for watching!

A perennial theme ln my native Scandinavian art, literature and films is the notion of the calm surface of the lake, accompanied by its dark, deep and terrifying bottom. We may appear friendly and easy-going on the surface, but deep in our souls, gloomy daemons are lurking. Thus, its not a surprise for me to see so many stamps from the Nordics, and the Germanics, included. In my home country of DK, however, I can only think of one possible candidate, which is a safety-in-traffic issue from the late 70s. Keep on your great work, and all the best regards to the bi-lingual, swearing parrot who turned out - to my naiive disappointment - not to be a parrot after all.

Ein paar von diesen Briefmarken habe ich gesehen, aber viel anderen nicht.
Thank you 😊. Glad you found it interesting, thanks for watching!
That's life I love them they are very different. Dr Who is a great show. You come up with good shows too.👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺😎
Ghee, some creepy and horrifying stamps.

Thank you Mila 😊 She certainly is a great teacher! Thanks for stopping by 👋
FANTASTIC VIDEO AGAIN...I AM FROM ISTANBUL TURKEY...HERE IS THE TRUE STORY ABOUT THE WEIRD AND EXTRAORDINARY STAMP AT 14.37...
HOWEVER, THIS PARTICULAR ONE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE ...IN FACT, IT IS A SIX PIECE SET OF STAMPS , INCLUDING THE BASIC TRAFFIC WARNINGS AS :
DO NOT SPEED UP ! ALWAYS WATCH THE SPEED LIMITS IN YOUR AREA...
DO NOT OVERLOAD ! ( REGARDING ABOUT THE BIG VEHICLES LIKE TRACTORS FULL OF VILLAGE PEOPLE , MOSTLY KIDS AND WOMEN GOING TO THE LOCAL WEDDING CEREMONIES )
NEVER DRIVE TOO CLOSE TO THE LEADING VEHICLE ! ALWAYS LEAVE ENOUGH SPACE...
DRIVE SLOWLY...SLOW DOWN WHEN YOURE CLOSE TO THE PEDESTRIEAN ZONES...AND SOME LIKELY OTHERS...
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR EFFORTS...KEEP UP WITH GOOD WORK...BYE...
Oh that’s fascinating!! 😀Thank you so much for adding context and sharing more details about that stamp and why they issued it. 🙏
I have #5, and I don't find Pinocchio creepy. The two Austrian ones are definitely creepy!
Thank you 😊. I don’t do well with clowns, so I would have voted for the clown stamps in the top 10 😅.
When are you making a video on Indian stamps and James bond stamps
I’m waiting for you to first make those videos 👏😉
👋
Hi Louis 👋
I just found #3 in my collection. Am I getting creepy? bwahaha 👹😈
Oh nice!!! For some reason, that is not the easiest stamp to get, must be popular with collectors 💀😊. Thanks for watching!

@@ExploringStamps You've inspired me to make a #philately UA-cam channel of my own! Irreverent Postage is coming soon!
Let me guess (I haven’t watched yet). Nr 1 is the dead astronauts.
Let’s see… 👀
Hi Graham what about Hitler with skull mask.
Ah The death mask stamp. I can’t remember the story behind that, was it actually issued or only proposed?

@@ExploringStamps Futsches Reichsbriefmarke,
1st!😂
Yes you are!! :)
It doesn’t have a number 2 ranking, just a special mention… it didn’t make the list.
homie didnt watch the video...just scrolled through it.
Oh wow! my bad!@@ExploringStamps
