many here don't understand judo. I'll explain for you: The russian knew perfectly that teddy riner was better than him, so the russian played only defense and just waited for a counter-attack. So teddy riner understood that and did the minimum with the minimum risk to secure an olympic gold medal. And that's what teddy riner got, a gold medal.
He(Teddy) is Micheal Jordan of Judo. He is G.O.A.T in Judo. 2 Olympic Gold Medals and 10 World Championship Titles!! Who can top this?? Is there anyone?? I don't think so!!
I'm glad that the International Federation got rid of the 2nd and 3rd referees, and decided that the golden score hasn't a time limit anymore. A match should be won by a technique its points worthy!

All of you denigrating these two men, remember this: those guys can literally line up everyone who's commented on this video and finish all of us...in a row...any way they please. Show respect. Or get on the mat with either or both at seminars and get force fed respect for their skills. That is all.
I am sure both are legendary Judokas but whenever you're presenting your sport or martial art on the biggest stage you need to present it well, and they failed at that spectacularly. I do not doubt anything you say about their ability to do precisely that. I do however suggest that this was boring, and I won't be watching anymore judo....
Both Wresting and Judo have ground elements to them. Unfortunately Judo often gets stood up very quickly, but you can win by pin or submission as well.
Glad too and this will be better for riner this way for sure ! Now other judoka will have to attack and not just wait for counter him ^^ ! all people say riner don't make beautifull judo !Oo it's the +100 kg categorie's guys !!! if one fighter refuse to fight the other just can't fight too . . . have you allready try to move someone who make 130 kg . . . so please respect the winner and the champion. thanks !
Tell you all the truth it's Judo. The point is take him down as best you can solid and clean. Also to counter his moves as well so you won't be taken down.

Don't be jealous, Teddy Riner is the best judoka of the world, he is 5 time champion of the world. His opponents don't attack because they know that if they attack, they take an ippon. Look other battles... Teddy Riner is the best.
they removed leg grabs because too many wrestlers were coming to judo and refusing to learn judo and just grabbing legs and pushing. You could at this time grab the leg if you were off balance or had a double side grip. Basicly one throw on your side mostly to your front is a yuko on your side more to your back is a wasari and on your back is an ipon 15 second hold down is also a wasari and 20 seconds is an ipon you can have unlimited yuko two wasari to an ipon and an ipon for the match. penalties 2 = yuko 3=wasari 4= ipon and you loose the match
Well that was anti climactic. I am sure both these men are the best Judokas in the world but they didn't display thier sport or portray it in a favorable way to the world audience.
I was thinking they should send one of the dudes at the guy with the horn. Then after watching the video, I realized they're just likely to hug attack him.
The only message I get from this video is that genetics always trumps hard work and experience when it comes to sports and it is a rather discouraging message.

It's totally legal to win a medal without by doing a technique but it isn't the same like throwing your opponent even earning a that time yuko.
Riner was afraid of Alexandr.Teddy is the cheater and spoiler in this fight.
Yamashita, the greatest ever.
If that is the case why didn't Riner get more "shidos".

i doubt it, any pro boxer or MMA fighter would knock them out
judo's amazing and i never noticed that it was this famous, i mean look at the crowd!
To all the people complaining that it's boring: if you want exciting, go watch smaller weight classes.
sparkyk24 most of the smaller classes are ridiculously boring, its like watching ten pins smash against eachother..
i am pretty sure that the sound does not match up with the video. it seems that the video is a good 10seconds behind the audio.
Both Wresting and Judo have ground elements to them. Unfortunately Judo often gets stood up very quickly, but you can win by pin or submission as well.
