So a lot of times I don't even have a tracklist setup I just kind of go in there and find the first song I think will do good and catch a tone or a sample or some kind of noises this triggers oh hey this song Would blend nicely let's mix into this song off of that and just go from there just run the set that way
Sorry about all the comments I just recently found you and you're one of the few DJs that I generally agree with when you're doing the little crossover drops with the cue points I was thinking exactly what you said I was like you needed to let the incoming track roll a few bars before it just drops instead of just letting it the first track run up then you hit the cue points I hate that in the way it sounds
1: start of the load, from 2 to 3: the into part which I consider to blend in, 4: if i wanna start with the drop directly without blend, 5:loop, from 6 to 7: the outro where I would consider to mix with next song, 8: end of the track.
I’ve seen a bunch of how to videos but this is the best I’ve seen. I love the “let me show you an example.” Also great tip for how to beat match a short intro/outro. I can beat match in 16 or 32 bars no problem but playing pop music even intro versions 16 bars is luxury. 8 or 4 is much more common.
I LOVE THAT YOU HAVE A CAMERA AND USE IT SO THAT I CAN SEE UP CLOSE THE SCREEN OF YOUR CONTROLLER & THE SCREEN OF THE COMPUTER!!! Otherwise It’s hard to follow what you’re saying without the VISUAL !!! #WELLDONE #THANKYOUPHIL !!! 🙏🙏🙏🎶🎶🎶👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🎧🎧🎧
You should encourage people to also use colors for their cue points for the amount of bars in each segment that the hot cue will play for. It will help the timing of transitions and layering without having to think much about it. Food for thought. And your welcome.
James Pich, I have mine set up a bit more elaborately, 2 Bars = Yellow, 4 Bars = Red, 8 Bars = Blue, 12 Bars = Orange, 16 Bars = Green, 20 Bars = Pink, 24 Bars = Cyan, 28 Bars = Light Green, 32 Bars = Magenta, and Custom = Purple (Usually with a note to let me know how many Bars. For Example, 1, 9, 8 1/2, or 64 Bars).
I thought hard about this, but decided to go in a different direction, setting up colors to match various sections of a track: Intro, Verse 1, Chorus, Bridge, Outro. Helps me know where I am in a track.
I LOVE THAT YOU RECOMMENDED INCLUDING 1-2 BARS BEFORE THE DROP as “BOOTY IN YOUR FACE” is JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE DROP !!! (Like You Said!) PHIL YOU’RE ALWAYS #SPOToN with YOUR TEACHING !!! THANK YOU 🙏🙏🙏🎶🎶🎶🎧🎧🎧🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻
Wow, you’re the best teacher ever! I love all your videos. You really make it clear and understandable to new DJs. Thank you, you’re a blessing. Keep it up
Phil is an awesome teacher, in one week off listening and practicing, things are becoming clear, I've a long way to go thou but am learning tons of stuff
Really great video lesson!!!! I think one of the best. So, "Mix in key" does a better job at analyzing tracks then Serato? Or its good just for the extra feature with the cue points?
Question for DJs: If you want to play the song shortly before the phrase starts, do you remember how long it takes and count for the right time? Do you remember it for each cue point? Or what do you use to make it easier (do you write notes)? Or test it in headphones each time? (Below I see guys like Chillum using colored cue points for this.)
You can always check the cue point in headphone b4 going live with it. That Nelly 'OH' goes on the 4 count. 1 and 2 and 3 and 'OH'. The drum beat starts on the next measure. Whereas something like Biggie's Juicy would be 1 and 2 and 3 'it was all a dream', cuz the word Dream is on the 1 of the next bar. Depending on the outro song playing, the cue point may vary. Hope that helps. DjJc
Did you just buy this program and or did you buy the dj edition because they have o lot of different ones on there web site. Thank you for your videos my ddj sr2 will be here Friday
look at the row of switches just above the cross fader and just below the volume sliders. these switches assign a channel to the cross fader side A or B, you can also just set the channel to "through", which just means it will always play (come "through") no matter what position the cross fader is in.
Not sure if it was 8, but I've been DJing for 20 years and when I used Mixed In Key to set cues a few years ago, they were TERRIBLY set. LEXICON however, NAILS the cue points
People look down their noses at Virtual DJ, but it bypasses all this nonsense of disconnecting the track, loading it in Mixed in Key, and reloading it in Serato. When you load a song in Virtual DJ, the BOM and key are automatically calculated. Virtual DJ does not add cue points, however. My point is, don’t be sneezing on VDJ when it does a pretty good job on its own.
Hi i have the question the beast translations is 16 bar from last section track 1 but what's is the best option for radio edit songs ? without extanded mix oryginal mix
@8:35 I respectfully disagree, in general, with your statement. You CAN mix in a beat-less melody if the melody starts on the down beat. Its the same principle with Acapellas. I frequently throw in tracks like on top of a long outro. If you are experienced riding the pitch fader and have a great beat matching ear its a fun mix, but I guess that is another video.
@@casino54 Agree, if you start a 32 beat long beatless section 32 beats from a outro, the songs will meet and pretty much mix themselves. Before there was beat matching and metronomes it took a little confidence/practice to start it and pitch it.
Mixed in Key does not generate cue points for my reckord box software, you mentioned it does, is there a way I can assign auto cue points through mixed in key for reckordbox?
Cheers, enjoyed the video. Does Mixed in Key know how to assign a specific color que point for a section of the song? Ie intros red? Builds green? Etc or do you assign the specific colors to the queue points?
C Sanchez not as far as I know. But I wouldn’t worry too much about that, you will know the song and the position of the cue points and that should be all you need
Walter Muller well I think serato has got a lot better but sometimes it struggles with key of song and BPM. When this happens, you have mix in key ;) also great for auto cue points
In my experience, Serato has like a 65% success rate on analyzing correct bpms and it only calculates the key for like half the songs I import. I'm kind of tired of manually adjusting bpms on so many songs. I totally get what you mean, but I'm definitely going to look into getting Mixed In Key.
Hey, I was wondering, if I am using djay pro 2, is there any way to have them auto calculate hot cue points, or do I have to manually set all of them? Also, can I save these hot cue points if I set them on a spotify song and then buy the song later in itunes and export them to the itunes song?
Hey, yes I am currently making a full ableton course. Once it is released I will be teaching everybody every thing I know about ableton. Until then it is just one dj lesson a week. Hopefully this will begin in the next few weeks :)
Not on my XDJ 1000MK2 - so I believe also not on any other lower CDJ/XDJ. Sarcastic mode on: That would be too advanced for a > 1kEUR device - sarcastic mode off.
I think if you explained to people how you use your crossfader first, it would make more sense to the beginners. I understand it's your style, and your great, but to a beginner it just looks like you never use both decks.

Great advice. I do that too, it's a lifesaver! yellow= 4 bars, rd= 8, pink =16.

Chillum Villain I like that thinking i may have to borrow that technique from ya!
Do it! I wouldn’t have shared it if I didn’t want others to improve they way they view and organize their cue points.
I thought hard about this, but decided to go in a different direction, setting up colors to match various sections of a track: Intro, Verse 1, Chorus, Bridge, Outro. Helps me know where I am in a track.

You know what I have asked for this tutorial to many channels.. And thanks you made it..

Thanks for explanations man, since watching you I noticed just how easy I can progress in what I want to do👍👍👍👍👍
How did you jump from Serato to algoriddim so fast? Movie magic or did you have djay pro open in the background?
On your last tip add 1 beat echo to the first song that integrates both!
Really great video lesson!!!! I think one of the best. So, "Mix in key" does a better job at analyzing tracks then Serato? Or its good just for the extra feature with the cue points?
Love the basics and you're really helping beginner dj's build the fundamentals. Style and Swag are soon to follow thank you for all you do. GOD BLESS
Happy Thursday again DJ Phil!!!!!! (Imitates explosion) 💥
Thank you very much 🙏 it is very useful
Excellent! Love it. Thank you. I liked and subbed and will be learning loads more from you.

Another great video thank you

How did you beat match both tracks live with the cross fader all the way to one side?
look at the row of switches just above the cross fader and just below the volume sliders.
these switches assign a channel to the cross fader side A or B, you can also just set the channel to "through", which just means it will always play (come "through") no matter what position the cross fader is in.
Fantastic explanation!
Very good explanations and demonstrations! Thank you very much!
Hello, big thanks it is very very usesufull!
Excelent video, thank you for sharing your knowlege!
Thanks for another great video Phil! Love your insight on how to bring in pop songs, much appreciated.
Does Mixed in Key create playlist if you drag all of your Serato crates into Mixed in Key?
Your tutorials are so frigen good!!! Thank you so much!!

But Serato DJ Pro already analyzes bpm and key. What if your controller doesn’t have colored pads? How does Mixed in Key correlate with the pads then?
Very good work Phil kept going......
Your videos are always informative 👍👍
Golden 🏆
This guy is amazing. Subscribed and thumbs up every video to help the channel. Content like this deserves reward. Good job!🙏
Does the colors depend with the dj console or the dj mixing program?
How do you handle a set usually?do you always know when you are doing all these ques and effects or do you also improvise sometimes?
Mixed in Key does not generate cue points for my reckord box software, you mentioned it does, is there a way I can assign auto cue points through mixed in key for reckordbox?
What i dont understand in Recordbox it says Fm or Gm not 4a for example?
Thank you for yet another very useful video, Phil :)
is there something to put automatic cues? im tired i have like 500 songs
Cheers, enjoyed the video. Does Mixed in Key know how to assign a specific color que point for a section of the song? Ie intros red? Builds green? Etc or do you assign the specific colors to the queue points?

Nice video Bru, keep up the great work. respect
I have a ddj400 and I can't use my fader, it only works on the right track and not on the left one? Any help would be appreciated!
Does Mixed in key works with serato dj Lite? Anyway good video :) very informative
Yes it does :)
I see you with the two tone submariner
Why would I use mixed in key if Serato also calculates bpm and key, apart from the automatic cue points?
Walter Muller well I think serato has got a lot better but sometimes it struggles with key of song and BPM. When this happens, you have mix in key ;) also great for auto cue points
I seem to have bit of trouble finding the "key" label in DJ lite
Chris Shuman you can add the KEY column by clicking the small arrow at the very right of the column grid
Serato doesn't put all music in key form...even if you analyze over and over...
In my experience, Serato has like a 65% success rate on analyzing correct bpms and it only calculates the key for like half the songs I import. I'm kind of tired of manually adjusting bpms on so many songs. I totally get what you mean, but I'm definitely going to look into getting Mixed In Key.
is it bad when i just scroll to drop or some sort part when to blend, just set cue
well done really amazing video!
Thank you very much
This video was helpful
Keep it going
PS: I don't know why people click dislike 😕
Does Mixed in Key 8 work with Djay Pro 2? I'm referring to the "Cue Points"?
Great tutorial bro. Btw where can i get the mixed in key? Is it built in to serato?
Just google “mix in key”. It should be the first thing that comes up
It does if you have the expansion pack time and shift..
These are really good advices....
Hey, I was wondering, if I am using djay pro 2, is there any way to have them auto calculate hot cue points, or do I have to manually set all of them? Also, can I save these hot cue points if I set them on a spotify song and then buy the song later in itunes and export them to the itunes song?
you ever figure this out?
Will your UA-cam videos turn into teaching Ableton Live or will you teach that somewhere else
Hey, yes I am currently making a full ableton course. Once it is released I will be teaching everybody every thing I know about ableton. Until then it is just one dj lesson a week. Hopefully this will begin in the next few weeks :)
Do you do any dnb tutorials?
Can anyone advise an app (like serato ) that I can use with my tablet. Unfortunately I do not have a laptop ?
Great tips
I am Like # 900 Eyyyy im glad! Thanks for your free Lesson!

When I drop the song in it I cant go to the key to set the cue that they put in
Great stuff, keep it up
Wow am learning
This is great
is it mixed in key 8? thats what comes up when you type it in?
I use Serato DJ, will this still work?
Anyone help? I can't export the cue point to my Rekordbox software. Plz,help!!!
Rekordbox doesn't allow for cue points to be transferred from MIK
very great tip
what website do you have on your laptop
Do Rekordbox transport the Comments for Cue Points als in CDJ/XDJ?
Not on my XDJ 1000MK2 - so I believe also not on any other lower CDJ/XDJ. Sarcastic mode on: That would be too advanced for a > 1kEUR device - sarcastic mode off.
fantastic storm-trooper-bra..... :D informative video. appreciated!
pioneer ddj sr2 review? and comparison to your sx2
Looking buff my boi
Do you have an udemy course?
Can you analyze more than 1 song at a time in mix in key?
Yeah
The Submariner
How about for rekordbox?
Thank you idol!
I think if you explained to people how you use your crossfader first, it would make more sense to the beginners. I understand it's your style, and your great, but to a beginner it just looks like you never use both decks.
It doesn't work for Rekordbox
@9:20 your crossfader on A. Why are we still hearing both tracks?
I have disabled the cross fader :)
Anyone get that neck hammock?
damn m8 you been hitting the gym
is calvin harris your brother ?
