Please make a video illustrating how to do what you just did using only the lit parts of the songs Or how can a dj mix like that through around 30 songs in 15 minutes
I m 28, learned 3 adobe programs to a professional level solely by YT. I can herby congratulate you to one of the best "explanation" videos ever I have ever come across.
I started as a DJ in seventies. Turntables with pitch control were brand new. Eager to learn how to deal with these technologies. I guess things are easier today. This teacher rocks.
Started out about 6 months ago as a new hobby, bought the numark party mix and watched alot of your videos, love the way you explain stuff so clearly and techniques for helping out, I've now upgraded to the ddj 400 as I'm enjoying it so much, if I ever bump into you whenever life is remotely normal il buy you a pint. Cheers
You are awesome! Your your tutorials are by far the best I’ve found. I love how articulate you are, everything make sense. I watched you teach your dad how to DJ DNB which was brilliant and hilarious at the same time and I now want to do your course! I’m 50 year old and love old skool house. Thanks Phil
Great video. I'm relearning music/DJ'ing and it's cool to hear it explained now compared to when I learned in the 90’s. I was taught to count beats, not bars...learned about major and minor breaks (64 and 32 beats)... later learned to listen to the beginning and end of every track before I played it (and count the intro/outro). It's pretty awesome to relearn 25 years later. Great stuff.
Wow. Thank you soo much. I have always felt music but I never understood what I was listening to this explanation helped me to think of music from a logical perspective
I found you through "Mixing in key" and I subbed because of this one. Thanks for these, they have just enough info for beginners and your rants really help open my eyes to the genre.
Out of all the videos I watched to explain what you just did was the best explanation. I’m new on learning and this was an awesome video. Thank you. Great job sir. 👏👏👏👏👏☝️
Absolutely brilliant lesson, this absolutely makes so much sense, it now seems to be clicking into it place, I felt I tried to run before I could walk and needed to bring it back a bit, and this is perfectly explained, I needed this.....thanks Phil, top guy!!
Your videos are great, I'm new to djing just got my pioneer DDJ 800 and although I learned quickly how to use the mixer and the rekordbox software (I'm a software designer) the hard part is how to utilize it all and your videos are extremely helpful and the best I've seen. Thanks so much and keep up the great work!
Several friends and myself had a pair of technics and a mixer back in the early 90s. Used to hold a few "private" parties, renting out village halls and function rooms in local pubs, all the lads who were into DJing would get a spot. Some really good others not so much! Recently got back into the world of the DJ through a work colleague. OMG how this has advanced from back in the day and the sound you can achieve on these new rigs is mind blowing. Back in the 90s getting a PC and production software was "the dream" as the costs were crazy, pirate software if you were lucky enough to find it was really the only way to access this world. Now this WILL make me sound old, but here it is! You young people don't know how lucky you are, all this was just a dream when I was a lad! 😂 😂 Now looking at getting some production software with my mate, look out for the first multi platinum track to drop! 😂 Great Channel and videos, keep up the great work. Great hobby and healthy focus for the yoof of today, in what seems to be a more and more crazy world.
You are the only person that has managed to teach me that, which has answered a lot of questions. I've been pulling my hair out up untill now, thankyou 😁
Hi Phil, i don't understand a thing from counting 1-2-3-4 2-2-3-4- and BARS. The only thing i did several years back was 'tapping' with my feet, and set the beats as good as possible the same. and that was with only using the pitch control. I guess that's the same, isn' it ? And thats easyer (for me) than counting bars etc. That was with vinyl in the good old days, and with the cd's also. I never used a dj program, because i didn't need it. Now i bought a Denon MCX 8000 and got to learn it good. But i don't go playing in bars or other events anymore. Only at home. You may call me now a 'bedroom dj' :-))). Sorry that i typ some mistake words, i'm live in Antwerp - Belgium. And buying or subscriving me on your dj lessons is not easy for me, because there are many technical words i really don't understand. And the translation is many times wrong. But i like the lessons that you give. Greetzzzz
LESSON #1: Remember to pick bars and phrases BEFORE you go to the screens!!! Learn by closing your eyes first, THEN go to the software, whichever soft you have.
i only like music videos to refer back too as thats what i used the like button for. i wont ever be refering back to this to relisten but it deserves a like. great guy well explained. hes so clear and friendly and outgoing great lad... fuk it deserves a sub too
Hi i like the way you explain dj stuff and how about a challenge? Can you do a video when you mix standard pop or rock hits from the 80-90s? Free to choose the tracks, just standard radio songs. Im working on to lix death metal just for fun. :-) Have a nice weekend! Keep on ,keeping on!
Hey Phil, loved your vid!! Just started researching and learning about DJ’ing within the last few weeks. This was such a phenomenal video and explanation. Really helped me further understand beats/bars/phrasing. Look forward to watching more of your videos and learning. Thank you!
I’ve been struggling to find the point to start transitioning into the next song and this was my answer! Thanks Phil, I’ve been loving the courses, especially... you know... ALL OF THEM😂😂❤️ How can i mix into my entire list of legally downloaded songs together perfectly? I want to be able to go into different genres and hugely different bpm differences without struggling. Please do a tutorial Thanks for your help Sincerely, Sebastian
Dear Phil, First of all, thank you for the great tuts. I'm following you more than one year now and I have learned a lot from you. I have 1 problem, SONG STRUCTURE! Could you please make a tut about this, Like from the beginning till the end. eg: first intro 16 bar, then.. x bar, then.. x bar etc. thx
Nice video. Since some time your videos quality and info improved. In the past they were also very nice, but now they are overall more complex. Keep up the work, coz the way you explain and your "method" and info that you provide are very very good. If you keep it like this, you'll be a dangerous rival for your competition (of "teachers" that provide free UA-cam videos but also sell their dj courses).. Or you already became.
When you start your mix when the phrase comes in. Do you start it on the one the kick of the next track or do you find the phrase of the track you are bringing in and mix from the phrase? And is it okay to mix phrase on phrase
Hey man, as always the only thing I can say is: "You, sir, are the best!" :) haha, thanks for the tutorial! Like many others here I also think the topic is very important for good DJs - to know and make good usage of the structures in your songs. As always explained easy to understand and very competent. Thanks mate!

Woww you made my DJ basic lessons more terrific!

^^^ I second this.
I third this
I started as a DJ in seventies. Turntables with pitch control were brand new. Eager to learn how to deal with these technologies. I guess things are easier today. This teacher rocks.
Props to you for not being an elitist and calling new technologies cheating!
This is the video taught me how to DJ a year ago and now I run my own mobile DJ business. This is the best explanation ever
A good teacher makes all the difference!
This guy is a legend and is so useful. I’m so grateful for this guys channel

Just learning to DJ at 48! Your videos have been such a great teaching source! You explain everything so clearly, thank you so much! xx
Im learning now at 50. Lots to take in. I'm on the course might take me awhile. These videos are really helpful.
49. Same. The advantage we have - the music was better! Haha.
Me too I’m 40yrs old
Update I am doing really well. Ive got it. And I’m learning techniques now. I’m chuffed as I thought would struggle. Phils course is very good.
Same here, started at 49, Phil has been a legend, massively helped me
I watched Many YT channels teach how to dj but this one made me learn a lot.
It's about understanding not just tutorials
