Thanks - great explaination. Where this becomes really important is if you play on both a controller (I use a DDJ1000) and also play on CDJ's. I made the mistake of marking all my track structures (intros/outros/breaks etc) using hotcues - but certain CDJ's only support limited cue points (eg 2000nexus only support 3 hotcues) Using memory cues to mark track structure is a better way to go - and is supported on CDJ's. If you work across DDJ's and CDJ's its worth thinking about what the minimum supported hotcues on the CDJ you will be using is.
I believe the CDJ-Nexus2's have 4 hot cue buttons with a Bank 1 and Bank 2 option, making it possible to access all eight of your hot cues. (If you wanna buy your way out of that hassle...) :D
Top notch comment. I fortunately learned about this before using CDJs the first time and spent time redo my library to mark lead-in, hot start, and end points using memory cues that had been all hot cues.
Big thanks didn't know I could do this. Main reason for using rekordbox is so I can practice at home on the same library configuration as on a CDJ with USB export.
Do you know if when using CDJ's does the names and colours of hot cues show up on the screen? How do I know what hot cue is 128 beats from the drop and whats 64 beats? Cant find this answer anywhere.
Gives this man an award or something!! 😄 The way he explains everything is just so good👌🏾.. He gets straight to the the point and everything he says makes sense..
I love your channel! After 23 years on vinyl I just made the switch to a DDJ 1000 . Your tutorials are perfect , so informative without being overwhelming . Keep up the great work !
I truly appreciate the way you teach. You explain what you're going to do/show, run through it in a calm flow, and then reaffirm what just happened, highlighting the controls and explaining what they did one by one. It makes it very easy for newcomers (like myself) who don't already know this ecosystem, to learn how this technology works and how to use it. Goal-oriented, clear and concise are very good tools for teaching. I find a lot of "for beginners" tutorials are just DJs showing off their skills, with extravagant hand movements and layering multiple techniques with the only explanation being "you just-" followed by an unnarrated demo, which is hard to learn from.
Honestly, the only benefit of memory cue is that it is the only way you can get a count down to the next cue or part of the song you added a cue point. Pioneer should change the use of memory cue to fade in and fade out memory cue. And count down to the next cue should be a default setting when you add a hot cue.
Hey Jamie! Wanted to thank you for all your effort you put into this. I watched quite few DJ tutorials but yours is PERFECT, straight to the point, great explanation. I paid in Hungary for a DJ course, it's a total rip off. For 600 euro the guys told me I cannot delete a hot cue from my RX2 and i need to do it in rekordbox. And that is a DJ school! I learned from you so much more! I will definitely purchase the advance DJ package from you, I feel like I owe you to be frank, your videos gave me most of my knowledge. I had no idea what is the shift button for. I pressed the hot cue so many times by mistake. The memory function is just grate to have a smooth set, with proper beat-count. Thank you again! YOU ARE A STAR!!!
Thank you so much for explaining how memory Cues work. I use two XDJ-700 and since there's only 3 hot cues on it, it's nice to know I can use the memory cues to save more starting point or to serve as markers. Showing where the memory cues are shown on Rekordbox is a big plus too.
Jamie! Thanks for this tutorial. It helped me make sense of why I'd use a hot cue vs memory cue. I had learned how to use each, but I was confused why I'd use one over the other.
the real difference is : Memory cue only accessible when the deck is NOT playing. Hot's only when playing the deck. This makes it very versatile to use a them as mix of mem's and hot's.
Hey do you know of any reason a memory cue would be functional when a track is playing? I have an xdj-rr and for some reason my memory cues work even if a song is playing. this is an issue because it stops playing track. Any ideas?
great vid. should maybe do like beginner courses, and advanced courses for the same lesson. Idk how much more in depth you could talk about the cues, I'm just a beginner. Again, great vid and learned a lot from it. Has me excited to keep going on this DJ journey
Lemme just pause here in the beginning. So im back at this video because its SO USEFUL. My god.... This cue tutorial is so good just wanna let you know that i appreciate all the work and thanks!
Thank you for this clear explanation, i’ve tried to understand on my own their properties but with no success. Now it’s time to start using memory cues!
Thanks so much for the upload! Im playing a set next week on 900's which don't have cue points (which I heavily rely on) so I was worried about that! Using the memory cues should be a good enough substitute :)
thank you for this tutorial. I am total beginner, I bought the ddj400 with its speakers and table, including hp laptop. I have taken a 1 to 1 course in London, and I wonder if there are any advanced dj who could do home visit teaching?
Holy shit bud you just blew my mind. I've been using hot cues forever and only messed with looping a little. There was one track I had that would auto loop at the end and I never understood how it knew to do that on it's own, da doii 🤣
This was great, thanks … can you make ‘Hot Cue Loops’ Active Loops, or can you only make Memory Cue Loops ‘active’ (red) … ? Noob question, I know … I’m a total noob, but I’ve learnt heaps from your vids before my beginner controller even arrives … Cheers! 😎👍🏼
besides saving loops. these features seem exactly same. hot que buttons seem more convenient. Is there a way to stop auto play if the track is not paused?
I noticed a fraction of a delay When pressing the hotkey pad. Like the track doesn’t actually start moving until my finger is coming up off of the pad. With the main orange color cute button above the play button the track starts as soon as my finger presses the button down. I also wish you could zoom in much, much further on the hardware when adjusting the grid. I’m not sure if the red beat marker line is exactly where it needs to be. It appears like the red line is ever so gently off to the left of the actual Beat wave form when record box analyzes the track itself. I don’t know who is right, considering sometimes record box gets it totally wrong.
That was very clear and useful. One question that is probably out of my noob league.. What about club controllers when you mite not have any hot cues? Can you use only the memory cues? Thats very limiting does it not? Also if you have your nice little set ready on a USB with cleverly set hot cues, you wont be able to use them on clubs pro gear? I guess question is super noob, yet was wondering Thanks again, watching and learning a lot or your content
❤ Hello Mr how do we analyze and modify if the tempo song is not a correct when import a track in rekordbox please? Which is the simplest method please? Let me know ASAP please Thx
In Rekordbox 6, can you display the hot cue pads the same way as in this video (2 rows of 4, as on the controller itself). I only see 2 columns and 4 rows. Different representation that you need to be aware of to hit the right corresponding hot cue on the controller
Super useful tutorial. Question. Let's say I have Let's say I have song 1 playing with a memory cue right before the drop, and song 2 cued with a memory cue at the drop and I want song 2 to drop at the exact moment song 1 would, but I would like to play and build up song 2 a bit, rather than just cutting to the drop at the exact moment. Is there a feature that can do this timing for you because I find that manually, it's incredibly difficult
Maybe you can add a second memory cue to both songs at a certain point before the drop, as in: "this memory cue indicates 32 bars left till the drop". This way, you know exactly how long it will take both songs to reach that cue and you can transition/cut between them.
@@hotsawce3546 Exactly, since both songs are at the same speed and have the same number of bars until the respective drop, those drops should meet at the same exact moment.
Sorry in advance if this seems like a stupid question but I'm a beginner... I have the ddj-400 and for some tracks, I can't set the cue where I want with the cue button. It just won't lock and keeps coming back to another place (usually the beginning of the track). What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I love your channel! After 23 years on vinyl I just made the switch to a DDJ 1000 . Your tutorials are perfect , so informative without being overwhelming . Keep up the great work !
Good to note too that memory cues will work on all club equipment but hot cues are only available on newer stuff
The counting down to a cue point on the bars indicator is amazing, then you know exactly when to mix in another song to line up the drop

This tutorial taught me what l was actually searching for, and so much more. I will literally use every single tip in this video. Thanks a ton.
This is a massive shift in my understanding of cue points, thank you so much Jamie!
Can you do some more videos on the DDJ 400 as they are very informative and useful
Definitely. Good job :)

Great vid, now looping my outro’s on my hot cues to to help my transitions, thnx 👍
learning how to dj at the moment and this is so usefull to prepare songs to make mixing in and out of them very easy! thank you so much!
Wow I didn’t knew about option saving several memory cues!!! It is really changed my way of mixing! Thank you very much
very, VERY, VERY well explained. No fuzz, lots of examples. Easy to follow! Thanks!👍

mindblowing easy tricks/tips, even after 4 years on the DDJ1000
🤯
I didn't know what that quantize was for.. this all makes sense now.. Thank you for that alone..
Great explanaition. Took some time to find a good tutorial, how to make loops and store them. Thanks, mate!
thanks i was struggling saving memory cue on the ddj400
I haven’t known that thing with active loop, thanks!

First time i see a tutorial so well explained about cue points . Awesome !
Planning to get a 2nd hand ddj-800 this is actually pretty useful
Thanks Jamie, its been really useful, I didn't know the diffrernce between the two as new to RB, thanks 😃
Im primarily using engine prime, but it is cool to learn how rekordbox works! Really inspiring

Thank you for the lesson!
This is phenomenal! You deserve an award!
This is great! I’ve watched videos on Hot vs Memory Cues before but now I really get it and am using Memory Cues a lot more since I watched it.

Me gustó mucho...Muy bien amigo!! Soy de Perú... Saludos!
Thanks for a great intro and demo! I wonder if its possible to save loops with the cue buttons when using djay pro (not recordbox) best regards
Great tutorial Jamie!
Heya. Please can you tell me what the "IN ADJ" and "OUT ADJ" functions under the the "IN" and "OUT" button mean. Thanks

Learned some ideas from you Thank you 🙏
Happy to help!
Excellent video thanks
Excellent. Thank you.
Thank you!!!! more more on Rekordbox
Will these rules still apply to an exported usb for us non-controller folks? What about the countdown beat setting? (i have rx3 if that helps)
