Build a Mid-Century Bench
I wanted to build at least one indoor project outdoors this summer and went with this fairly easy Mid Century Modern style walnut bench. I needed something with long legs that could sit in front of a window but not block the heat vent. I chose black walnut which speaks for itself with just a natural danish oil finish. Quick project with a big return as far as I'm concerned. #diyproject #woodworking #wood #diy #midcenturymodern #midcenturyfurniture #finefurniture #walnutwood #woodworker

Build a Knock-down Outdoor Chair
Переглядів 303Місяць тому
A nifty outdoor chair I built out of cypress that was a lot of fun to build in a short period of time. I didn't apply any finish to the chair as I'm hoping the rain and sun will grey it up naturally. Cypress is extremely rot resistant and the insects don't seem to like it either. #woodworking #outdoorfurniture #diyproject #diycrafts #woodwork #cypress
Build a Simple Bandsaw Box

There are tons of bandsaw box builds on youtube but this is a short project I worked on to break in my new band saw. Fun, gratifying project and I can't wait to use the new Rikon on some more substantial ones. #bandsawbox #woodworking #wood #diyproject #diy #woodwork
Build a Folding Outdoor Bench
Переглядів 1863 місяці тому
This is a project I started late last fall and had some weather to contend with so I decided to wait until spring to finish it instead of taking it into the shop in the middle of winter. Fun project and not that difficult to build. You will have to think about how the bench folds a bit before you commit to anything permanent like glue. Thanks for your patience since the last build, lots coming ...
Build a Fireside Stool

This is a fast video I had to produce of a project I had to build quickly for a family member. I drilled the mortises at 15 degrees with the drill guide but you could easily do it freehand. I also used fox wedges for piece of mind but with glues nowadays, I'm not sure if you really need them if you decide to build one. Fun project and great looking wood. #diy #diycraft #diyprojects #diycrafts #...

Build a Cypress Porch Bench
Переглядів 3239 місяців тому
This is a small bench that will stay on the porch most all of the time so I went with a good outdoor wood that can take the drifting snow that blows in most of the winter. Cypress is great to work with and nice looking. I put a tongue oil on it but leaving it alone and letting it grey naturally is just as good. I went with a turnbuckle set up I finished with a textured rusty look. Fun project. ...
Build a Simple Firewood Box

This was a project I built to take the place of a much larger, plastic bin I was using as a shorts bin. This one is smaller, on wheels and nice to store all the hardwood shorts that aren't good for anything but kindling. Fun project and no sanding. #firewood #firewoodstove #firewoodbox #diyprojects #diyideas

This is a small storage bench I built out of douglas fir. It's a quick and easy outdoor project to take on over a weekend. I put mine behind the shed to collect all the shorts for future projects and some kindling for the winter. #diy #diygardendecor #diygardendecor #diyideas #gardenbench #woodworking #woodworking

Build an Easy Eastern Style Outdoor Bench
Переглядів 380Рік тому
This is a simple bench you can build out of 2x4's if you want but I chose to build it out of some Douglas Fir I had left over from last summer. It's a good, dense outdoor wood and I aged it a little using some weathered finished I diluted with water. Fun, easy project you can build in a couple of hours and you can customize it to have the seat be whatever length you want. Thanks for watching. #...

Build a Saw Till
Переглядів 966Рік тому
This is another project for the shop that's a simple saw till built out of re-sawn douglas fir and pallet wood. You could build this out of oak or maple if your intention is to show off the cabinet for clients but since this is a cabinet that most likely won't be seen by too many people, there was no reason for me to go nuts with the hardwoods. Fun project. #diyprojects #diy #woodworker #woodwo...

I made mine with one inch wood, angles at the corners for strength, and a “T” up the middle for a bit of support. I used wood glue, toe nailed the angles inside the rectangle, put small brackets one all the corners and it’s solid as a rock. It’s for a hardware cloth door inside a chicken coop. Anything over one inch was just a bit heavy.

Not sagging, white oak just greys up which is what I wanted. The only thing I might have to do is change the screw heads on the hinges as they are rusting a little.

The whole concept behind a carriage bolt is the square shape underneath the domed head. That square shape is designed to bite into the wood, to keep the bolt from spinning. Carriage bolts are not meant to have a washer under the head! If you put a washer under the head, you disable the square biting element, so when you tighten the nut, the bolt spins, and it's awkward to get a wrench under the head to hold it. You're better off using a standard hex bolt in that case, so you could at least grab it with a wrench when tightening the bolt. Or, better still, use the carriage bolt with no washer under the head, and then when you tighten the nut the bolt won't spin.
