It never ceases to amaze me how recipes take on new characteristics and ingredients as they travel around the world. Spaghetti is a perfect example. Here in the States in our American-Italian communities they'd never think to put bell peppers or whole olives into spaghetti ... but then back in Italy they wouldn't include meatballs like we do in the USA and add far less sauce. Whereas in Japan they don't make a tomato sauce or bolognese, they just use ketchup! It's all delicious and a beautiful thing that even though we may have different recipes, each one is important to our families and those we feed. Food still unites us even when the ingredients are surprising and new. Bless you for this recipe and I can't wait to try it.

My Haitian mom have those kind of pots and I kid you not when I tell you they have been here since I was 2 years old now I am 25 years old. Well she's doesn't have one she have a bunch. She never buy them in the street. She always have someone custom them for her. Like a pot maker.
The pasta wont stick if you stir it a couple of times while its cooking and have the sauce ready to go when it drains. The oil only makes it slippery...you want that starch. It helps the sauce adhere to, and permeate the noodles. The sauce looks good.

I used to do it with a pinch of oil but then noticed that my cooked noodles had this weird consistency and taste. Its true oil prevents the noodles from sticking but that coat of oil gets absorbed by the noodles and the taste changes. I then stopped boiling with oil and noticed that the noodles taste a lot better since they are no longer absorbing that oil as it cooks. I don't worry about sticking because my sauce coats the noodles perfectly in the end.

Looks yummy, I’m Dominican and that’s how I make my Dominican spaghetti. A little tip, you should use the water from the spaghetti instead of plain water, the starch makes it even better.
Ok, i just made this. Amazing!!! After I plated it, I topped it with avocado. I few viewers commented that the sauce wont stick if pasta is cooked with oil. This sauce is made w/tomato paste and sticks like glue. This recipe is so simple, and the taste is incredible. Takes no time to prepare. Thank you!!

Thank you for sharing this! We are an Italian/Irish/Middle Eastern family lol and this was a change from our typical spaghetti. I added just a little bit of sazon and adobo. I minced the veggies really small because my son is picky. I also added 2 beef hot dogs diced up and my kids liked this so much they kept asking for more. I think this is a really interesting take on spaghetti!! It's so versatile. I've traveled to so many countries and every country really does it their own way. I would do everything the same! Only thing I would do is saute the onions first until translucent to bring the sweetness out, then the red and green peppers, then garlic, then everything else like tomato sauce and all ingredients, except olives!! I love watching homemade cooking. Gives me new ideas on how to switch it up. Thank you for taking the time and sharing. Looks delish!!

I'm Native American married to a Dominican man for 22 years. I've learned so much over the years and my sister-in-law who I love more than anything lives next door to us.. I will definitely surprise than with this dish next time. I make something similar before but not exact but I will next time. Also, they sell a bag, like a tea bag, so you could put the cilantros in it, and you can cook with the herbst and spices that you want for soups, stews and sauces, and then you could easily take them out... Made this tonight. I don't care for green olives much, but I'm a firm believer that when you mix foods, you get a different taste. I added the olives & I loved it! Will definitely make this again. One question, did you use the entire box of pasta? Mine seemed to have made way too much.

That is very true, we make a nice get together when is about cooking spaghetti. Also, is the tradition when we go to the beach or the river.

Denise Underwood the trick for cilantro is to never put it in before the very end (When cooking it). The longer it cooks the more the flavor goes from good to strange. Also this sounds weird but, cilantro stems (chopped up) taste like cilantro, lemony goodness, but the leaf part gets all slimy and weird when cooked. Don't believe me? Taste a piece of the stem and a piece of leaf and see the difference.

I'm Native American married to a Dominican man for 22 years. I've learned so much over the years and my sister-in-law who I love more than anything lives next door to us.. I will definitely surprise than with this dish next time. I make something similar before but not exact but I will next time. I do cook other Dominican style recipes though..we have 4 teen boys I'm sure they will love this version too. thank you!

Also, they sell a bag, like a tea bag, so you could put the cilantros in it, and you can cook with the herbst and spices that you want for soups, stews and sauces, and then you could easily take them out... It looks good!!! 😊

Made this tonight. I don't care for green olives much, but I'm a firm believer that when you mix foods, you get a different taste. I added the olives & I loved it! Will definitely make this again. One question, did you use the entire box of pasta? Mine seemed to have made way too much.

I love spaghetti! I am Dominican, too. I am also, looking a different ways of cooking it. I love the way you explained. We don't make the sauce like other countries but we make it delicious, too. That is very true, we make a nice get together when is about cooking spaghetti. Also, is the tradition when we go to the beach or the river.

Dang. This looks so good. I’m eager to try it. Though if I may ask, how do you normally prepare the chicken you mentioned? Do you roast it before hand, boil it, or throw it in raw? Do you normally throw the whole half a bird in, or cut it up, or shred it? Some help on that part would be appreciated. YUM!

It. Wont taste. The same so go without.
Denise Underwood the trick for cilantro is to never put it in before the very end (When cooking it). The longer it cooks the more the flavor goes from good to strange. Also this sounds weird but, cilantro stems (chopped up) taste like cilantro, lemony goodness, but the leaf part gets all slimy and weird when cooked. Don't believe me? Taste a piece of the stem and a piece of leaf and see the difference.
Denise Underwood Parsley would be better. Basil would change the flavor.
