There were these old Carol Burnett sketches called The Family. The sketches center around an elderly matriarch named Thelma “Mama” Harper and her adult children. She has two daughters, Eunice and Ellen and one son, Vinton, who is usually seen on the sitcom Mama’s Family. Ellen is Mama’s favorite child, despite the fact that Eunice is the one who invites Mama over for dinner, checks on her, and takes her places. The only reason why Mama favors Ellen is because she lives a bougie lifestyle and has a nice looking husband despite the fact that she isn’t as present as Eunice is when attending to Mama. On the other hand, no matter how hard Eunice tries to please Mama, she fails. Everything that Eunice does for is never good enough for Mama. She doesn’t even like Eunice’s husband Ed who works at a hardware store.
I believe that too. At one point, I was the favorite in my mom's eyes just because of how "people pleasing" I was as a kid. Growing up, there was some glaring mental issues that caused me to fall down from that pedestal. Nowadays, her favorite is my second to last younger sister just because she's the only one who has the potential to be the one who's gonna care for her when she grows older.
My mama very much has a very child...it's my older brother. She has 3 kids. My older sister. My older brother. Then there's me (the baby). Oh my sister may agree my brother might be my brother is the favorite, yet my brother may say I'm her favorite (due to me needing the most help as a young girl...couldn't be helped. I was a preemie and I'm autistic). Yet flash forward to 2012 and she's sent both her girls to live with her sister at some point in they early teens, yet her son remained until he got locked up. Even now, we all grown and in our 20s and 30s and she STILL treat my brother as the favorite.
I honestly don’t believe it. If anything a parent loves their kids equally, but with different reasons outside of them being their child. What is true is that some kids are easier to manage than their siblings, which can give off the impression that the parent loves that child more.
