Really informative video Alan. I followed your instructions and everything worked out perfectly..in my car I fitted an LED roof light over the back seats instead of the rope light £6.50 from e bay bit fiddly getting the wire through to the front light behind the roof lining but well worth the effort. The light had a black base surround so I covered it with light grey insulating tape (69p) to match the roof lining. Also changed the light bulbs in the front interior light to white LED's, now really in bright
Hi, I don’t have the ZS ev anymore, I swapped it for an MG 5 a year ago so I can’t go and check. I will be fitting rear interior lights to the MG5 soon though as it has no rear illumination either!
Hi, a great innovation and thanks for taking the time to upload and benefit other owners. It is very much appreciated! One Q. As you have connected to the driver's light switch does this mean you have the option of switching off just the strip light as required? Also, just to clarify, did you say you have joined the N/S & O/S switches? Thanks.
Hi, thanks for your comment. Yes the drivers switch is set up to operate just the led strip, it still switches on and off when the doors are open as usual also and you can switch it on and off directly from the drivers side switch too. The switches are independent, I joined the two bulbs (front cab lights) together so they are connected to the other switch so it can be used to operate both the front lights together independently of the rear led set up. Hope that helps.
Hi, there are so many to choose from, this is where I got this one rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F173994324350 Choose a strip that’s waterproof (ip65) There are 3 types that are different brightness the one I used here is 3528, next is 5050 then 5630. There is a description of the differences in the eBay listing in this link.
Hi, not yet I’ve been a bit lazy with UA-cam recently 🙃. I will get on with it soon though as it’s a dark cave in the back of the 5 now the days are getting shorter.

So amazing. The ZS is so dark. Doing this today!
Thanks for the Video Alan and great idea. The headlights are ok but interior lighting is a shocker, your solution is cheap and easy, I like it!
Thanks for this have ordered the LED strip myself so will have an attempt in the next few days
A very good but very simple enhancement can I just clarify does the led strip activate on all of the doors opening and not just the rear doors?
Hi, yes it activates on all the doors.
Great stuff. My interior light isn't even working rn. Maybe a blown fuse?
Which fuse does the dome light get power from. The one listed in the user manual doesnt control it.

Oh and they can be cut to size too, there are where to cut marks on the strip so simple to do
Anyone know if doing this upgrade will void the warranty?
Have you done anything similar with the 5?

@@alankemp1970 would be very interested if you do, I haven't worked out a happy solution for my 5 yet
You cannot hide it behind the edge?
Yes this video is 1 of 3 in the final video it is installed inside the recess.
