IRON MAIDEN Run for the Hills Composer Reaction and Dissection The Decomposer Lounge
Old Composer Reacts to Prog Rock and Heavy Metal
"If I decide to still continue to do the channel."
What? 😭
Don't leave us, Geebz. You are one of the few people on UA-cam who actually makes me feel happy and excited every time you post. We need you here.
Martin Birch was a hell of a producer, hard to think that was recorded almost 40 years ago it still sounds fantastic, Steves Galloping bass style never changes much, Clive Was a great drummer too. I have followed Maiden since the end of the 70s and still listen to them 🤘
This is the first song I've ever heard from Iron Maiden, i was 5 years old, it was a winter night and my dad came home from work. He was in a really good mood and he brought out his gramophone and records, and said to me '' You gotta hear this champ''. We sat down on the floor near an old heater and once i heard these guitars i was hooked. I've been an Iron Maiden fan since then and the passion i had for their music persists to this day. Damn man, what a wonderful UA-cam video, it brought me back to that winter night seeing you enjoy it that much. Thanks for that Geebz.
Love these kind of comments/stories :) Thanks for Sharing Vuk
@@KeyOfGeebz You're welcome buddy. Keep doing what you do! I love your stuff.
That’s an amazing story brother. Your Dad sounds cool ad fuck!
This is an awesome story. Music is powerful man
Iron Maiden are, by far, one of the best bands I’ve ever seen live.
Clive Burr's drumming is amazing on the first three Maiden albums. He was so gifted. RIP Clive 🤘
Steve Harris is the Bassist and wrote most of the classics. He took gallops from Yes and Emerson Lake and Palmer and made it metal! He practically made the metal gallop which created British Heavy Metal out side Judas Priest. While all of Iron Maiden is amazing Steve Harris was always the secret weapon the whole time.
Steve Harris' Bass sound is so iconic!
Maiden's gallop is iconic to me, you instantly know its them when you hear a song.
It also gives their music a sense of urgency and drive, and it energizes you as well, not many bands make music like that anymore.
Found them in the late 70's / early 80's and been playing their music ever since, i also rate them as one of the best live acts in the world.
Thnx for this one Geebz :)
What can be said about this song that hasn't already been said? It's a genuine classic, and with good reason. Up the irons!
Geebz, you'd prob like 'Infinite Dreams' (from Seventh Son of a Seventh Son album)
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son was my favorite Iron Maiden record. It was really incredible.
Yes indeed
Live Maiden 88' 👌
My favorite song from my favorite album by my favorite band. Yeah, recommend!
That and moonchild
In terms of composition Rime of the Ancient Mariner is an absolute must. It's 14 minutes of pure musical storytelling and easily one of if not the best song maiden's ever written. The music perfectly captures and summarizes the mood of each point in the tale and features some of the best performances from each of the band members.
EDIT: I know how much you love bass, and Maiden has one of the best bassists of all time imo in Steve Harris, and mariner has some of their hardest and most unique bass parts.
Used to be my favorite Iron Maiden song. These days, I feel it pales a bit in comparison to many other longer tracks by other bands, especially prog. Then again, it's not a prog band, so that is probably not a fair comparison. I would still like to see Geebz do it.
I really like your technical explanations of these songs that my silly friends and I, in our ripped-up jeans and metal T-shirts, would headbang and bounce off the walls and each other to. Like you, it takes me right back to my silly teenage days. They were great. We were indestructible and had the world by the short hairs. Didn't we?
We always called that an "ape shit" ending.
How are we gonna end this one?
Just go apeshit at the end.
Seen Maiden play a 4 minute song and add a 3 minute ending live. Epic.
Rich the Ancient Metal Beast
Hallowed be thy name, Rime of the ancient Mariner. Empire of the clouds would be good reactions. Last two are over 10min with Empire at 18 but time doesn't drag

I only found this video now and what a cheer up before a long day shift! I remember it as yesterday even though it's decades ago, but this was the first ever song I heard from this amazing band. I was a just little kid back then. My dad didn't live with us, but once in a while he would come pick me up and we'd spend a great weekend together. He was a trucker, so he would even sometimes bring me along on his long journeys. But this one night when he was picking me up, he had this song on and turned the volume of the cassette player all the way up. I was stunned by the song and I was humming it over and over again for pretty much the entire trip. Well, at the end of it my dad just gave me this look he always had when he was about to do something cool and he just gave me the cassette with "Number of the Beast" album on it and my first walkman with the words "I knew you'd love this band as much as I do. May this serve you well!" And off he went on another truck journey. And well, ever since I just couldn't get enough of Iron Maiden, their songs always cheered me up even at the toughest of times. Up the Irons! 🤘🏻
Steve Harris's bass high notes bring Eddie's face from inside our memories. We used to listen to this holding the LP cover and tripping on Derek Riggs's drawings. Thanks for this reaction, Dude!
I've been listening to this song since I was a teenager when it first came out. I've probably played it over 1000 times over the last 40 years. It's very cool that you were able to reveal layers and a complexity that I never knew existed. Cheers.
Love your reactions !!! Aloha !!!!
This is also part of my soundtrack from middle school, Geebz. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane. Great analysis as always, man. Miigwech.
I remember riding around on my Mongoose bmx bike, Walkman with Maiden tapes, building little dirt bike tracks on school grounds and no one saying a word!
I grew up listening to Iron Maiden so thank you for this one. Thank your brother too.
Love the bass in the break, so iconic. Amazing tone and killing it.
Nice illumination man!
Receiving, loud and clear. My old headphones died a week ago and I´m now using my new set of AKG K 240´s. It was your fault 😃 So far, satisfied with the price and what you get for that ratio. As for Run To The Hills, I listened it now for the umpteenth time since the release... Still rocking !
"stranger in a strange land" is imho the most underated maiden song. The rhythm section is particularly awesome...
Fukin love Maiden.
One of my favorite songs from Iron Maiden!!
Harris is the reason I started playing bass 33 years ago.
One thing that blew my mind was that Nico plays with a single kick drum, and the triplets he’ll throw in using only one foot.
If you want a more modern(ish) song with that cool gallop feel, try Knights of Cydonia by Muse.
You keep saying, "Soundtrack of Life," and I gotta say this has been a staple in mine for pretty much my entire life. First heard Iron Maiden on a cassette my father decided to throw on in the family car one day when i was 7yo (he used to work at a music store, so he had one hell of a collection of records and cassettes). I am 32 now and have since seen them live 5 times and probably haven't gone more than a week at time without listening to them since at least middle school. Happy to hear you enjoy this like you did when you were a kid as I have that same feeling. Hope you keep this up and Up the Irons!
Aww man glad I made it early. Haven’t heard this track, let’s go!!
What'd you think?!
@@Comrade.Question Love it. Love seeing Geebz light up with the track too. Kinda wish I was around when that came out, or rode more bikes when I was a young kid. Oh well
Thank you Ron! Great song choice and great dissection as always.
Phish! They definitely do a great deal of the “big epic rock ending” stuff. Aloha from Baltimore!
3 weeks into my maiden jurney i had known of iron maiden when i was young but never listened to them.im 44yrs old now and wow, what a band!.i dont think i have heard a half assed song by them and when i see youtube vids of them on stage i just wished i had got into them earlier i would deffo of been at most of their gigs!
There is a prog metal band out of Hartford , CT called Fates Warning (started in the 80's) that you should check out. They set out to be the next Iron Maiden, but quickly embarked on their own path to forge something different. Mike Portnoy, former Dream Theater drummer, said something along the lines of "if it weren't for Fates, there probably wouldn't be a Dream Theater." Check out "And Yet it Moves" or "The Light and Shade of Things." Not only is the musicianship excellent, but the lyrics are very powerful, and are mostly written by Jim Matheos, guitarist and to this date, the only original member. I follow a few reaction channels besides this one, but so far no one has reacted to Fates. Be the first - take a chance, and I think you' will be pleasantly surprised.
Great song.
Only 4K more and you'll have 200K subs!!! Early grats on that man.
Thank you. Love that the tempo is like riding your horse fast across the plains.
Love to see your breakdown of "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" during the 30 days.
This made my day :)

Oh yeah! Classic Iron Maiden! Let's GO
This is as close as you get to the South Dakota state song. 100% serious. could only have been better timed if you did this on the 11th (Native American day in SD.)
@@metalmark1214 oh I know it well, this one just resonates with everyone here no matter the race or class.
@@metalmark1214 well... with helping that guy build hot rods all the time... ;)
08:07 that "rrrrr " is drum roll. Great one. My favorite lessons what I learn on drums.
So cool. I remember I was in jr high hearing Iron Maiden. So good thanks
Greater Good of God
Starblind
Paschendale
Empire of the Clouds
Always good to break away from the traditional Iron Maiden requests.
I absolutely love Starblind and Paschendale, Two of the mosr special 21st Century Maiden tracks in my opinion
@@santiagoaguilarramirez7128 - Always confuses me that Starblind isn't a staple classic to most fans. The instrumentals are intense and Bruce's vocals have rarely pushed harder.
That gallop you mention is kind of a signature sound of Maiden. It's what you get when the bassist is also the main songwriter.
Interestingly, the vocal hook was written by Bruce to contain two consecutive rising sixths. I recall an interview he did decades ago in which he discussed how catchy the rising sixth is in melody - and Run To the Hills has two of them in the same line.
This band got me into metal. The Power Slave Album was just coming out and i bout the cassette tape and wore it out on auto flip, at full volume, on my old Marantz system a guy gave me for helping him hook up his new rack system. Judas Priest Screaming for Vengeance was the next album i bought.
I was so into Maiden that i learned how to draw Eddie and could draw every version of him. Many park benches at Chatsworth park and Tampa park (AKA Tampax Park) had Eddie drawn on them and or had Alfred E Newman face Stenciled on it by me back in the day.
Classic
Sound track of life, yes Sir, this is one of them for me too🤗 The Whole album is epic, at least it is for me😉
Absolutely legendary song! Awright! 🤘
Iron Maiden - Infinite Dreams
Iron Maiden - Sign of the Cross (Rock in Rio live)
I was torn. My banana seat had flames on it!
Ah yeah! CLASSIC! EPIC! ICONIC!
Love your videos, man. Watched one and already subscribed. But, are you up for a challenge? 🤣🤣
I challenge you to make a video with less than half an hour analysing the greatest show on earth or the poet and the pendulum, both from Nightwish. I'd recommend you to watch both live with the lyrics on the video. Gives a whole new dimension to the songs.
You should decompose “What a Shame” by Shinedown. I have two tattoos from the feelings this song 🎧 gives you 😎😀
Maiden are different. Lyrically and musically .. Tool also
Great video Geebz, more Iron Maiden please! May I suggest:
'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner' from the 'Somewhere in Time' album.
A L O H A!
09:17 is great vocal !
Recently? I heard several such songs on their latest album that was released just a month ago :)
It's been a while since I have listened this song. Huge Maiden fan but tended to steer away from these most famous songs but damn, kicked ass /,,/
That album is pure🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
No gallops in the last 20 years? I swear I saw you react to Unleash the Archers' "Awakening." In fact, I think that's how I discovered your channel!
METAL SCREAM!
BILLY STRINGS - Turmoil & Tunfoil please...he is a virtuoso guitarist that only comes along once a generation.
Steve Harris wanted to ask Martin Birch to produce their debut album, Iron Maiden, but he felt he would turn him down. Birch had said later he would have loved to have worked with them at first.
This album was 1 of three that I learned the entirety of when I started guitar oh those many year’s ago. Dam I’m old.. still sounds great. Ah retro. Lol
I'd love to see you you react to something from Dark Forest, they've got a strong Maiden-ish vibes, especially the stuff from their Oak, Ash & Thorn album.
🤘 The Evil That Men Do...
Its post 2000, not anything recent but shadow's fall's "idle hands" has the galloping drums.
Love that you've done aome maiden. Favourite band. A more modern band that used a fast gallop was three inches of blood any thing off their advance and vanquish album would do!
Another fun analysis! Whelp, time for Knights of Cydonia from Muse! Plenty of gallop, though not metal.
Gojira has some recent examples of a galloppin Metal, e.g. in Backbone but with their special twist on it
Could you react to "The Rain Formally Known As Purple" by Chris Christodolou? It's a wonderfully brilliant track from the Risk of Rain 2 OST. I think you would love all the flavor and texture it has to offer!
Please check out Avatar. Very diverse sound from song to song, so basically any song you choose will be killer
Check out whispered, you'd like em
Converge - A Single Tear, please.
Geebz you need to revisit Rivers of Nihil. Their new album dropped recently and it's amazing!
Isn't it cute when the British descendants who didn't have the stones to brave an ocean and the unknown of a new world lecture those who did about how they handled the challenges faced once they got there?
You should react to "A Little Piece of Heaven" by "Avenged Sevenfold", a song from a popular metal band, the song is hugely inspired by Oingo Boingo and Mr. Bungle.
i agree, A little piece of heaven is a masterpiece
Just listened to this 2 weeks ago for the first time in a while! Their self-titled album still is up there as one of my fav's from them. _Gunslinger_ is still a powerful track for me, too.
@@JaySay i totally agree, that whole album is a masterpiece, same goes for the city of evil album
@@eventhoresen9541 City of Evil is without a doubt my favorite. Played Guitar Hero growing up and Beast and the Harlot is a nostalgic track.
That entire album is a riff pounding masterpiece.
ıron maiden is a giant metal band, probably the best ever! Steve HArris is teh bass player, leader, lyric writer and the mastermind behind the band. He is famous for creating the galloping baselines. It s so unique. You can check any mainden song. they are all cool and Maiden is still on. they have recently released their 17th album. Suggesition for the next reaction could be a live version. Sugegsitıons
Hallowed be thy name
fear of the dark
Dance of the death
talisman
Rime of the ancient mariner
hell on Earth
Have you ever listened to a single song of the Doom/Death genre? A great Finnish band called Swallow The Sun released a brand new song about a week ago. It's called Woven Into Sorrow. You could react to it! It's very different from anything you've done here before!
I don't know if you've done it yet, but have you decomposed "roundabout" by YES? I'd love to hear your input on that one.
04:09 no muffel on drum. One question why drummer must but in bass drum pillow ?
About the drums: listen to "Lord of the Lost - Priest". The drums on that track are astounding.
Unleash the Archers gives me a Maiden vibe, but that's just me. *Shrugs*
Please do Dimmu Borgir "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse"
Geebz, please react to Cardiacs- The Everso Closely Guarded Line. Your inner Oingo Boingo fan will love it I promise! Such a great rabbit hole to fall down too 😉
Finally!!!!!!!!! Please do Dark Moor - Dark Moor!!!
Geebz, we need Unleash the Archers back in the channel, maybe Abyss or Soulbound.
Also, an extremely progressive band with a very strong power metal base, Luca Turilli's Rhapsody. Check out Prometheus.
What happened to Post Rock week?
\m/ YES \m/
React to Empire of the clouds by Iron maiden.
React to their new song "The Parchment"! It's a beautiful masterpiece
More "bounce" for drums at bassdrum ,get use doubel layer skins and food head hammer on pedal.
Steve Harris kills it on bass on this track
I don't know if you've checked out unleash the archers, awakenings yet,but if you haven't you should, think Judas Priest meets Dragonforce!💖💖💖
Please react to Slaughter to Prevail - Demolisher!! The vocals are all genuine and totally insane
Honestly, listen to Seventh Son of a Seventh Son or Phantom Of The Opera. AMAZING songs.
you should react to "flash your bones" by takatak, a pakistani metal band! that song is incredible
06:38 Can You play that guitar solo for us ?
