Well our Kiwi brothers have shown us again what a great bunch of people they are. It would be good for you guys to head back over the ditch again and spend some more time together doing what you did in Japan and Europe. My God, Glenn is the absolute Engine Yoda, so meticulous and so knowledgeable and so skilled at what he does, but having the former Kiwi Rally gun Possum Bourne team offer you a job - would we expect anything different? Thanks for another excellent MCM production. Cheers boys.
This is the most informative engine build I've ever watched. It's so educational and it really shows all the components and just how complex an engine is. Thank you putting this education out onto the interballs!
Same, so many great memories of watching him blast through the forests around Melb in ROJ, and chatting to him at the end of the rally. Hopefully one day my budget can cover a PBM engine for my 04 SG XT.

Loved my '94 SVX LSi as well! Such an awesome car. The EG33 is a fantastic engine. It's too bad about the 4EAT, otherwise they may have sold more. Mine had a 4.44 swap from an Outback/Forester. Much stronger (save for the front diff being the same - my first 4.44's front diff grenaded after one too many launches), and had way more get-up-n-go, but the car really deserves a 6MT with DCCD and at least an R180 rear diff. I had a Subiechips/ECUtune stage 2 tune with 550cc yellowtops on mine. Stripped it and sold it for scrap due to rust (Canada). I'm hunting for another one though, and I'm planning on a full turbo build when I find it. Unfortunately, it's getting harder and harder to find decent rust-free lower-mileage unraped examples. Now, Im super confused. I didnt think Australians needed a visa to work or live in NZ and vice versa. Is Marty not an Australian citizen or was this just a way to fit time constraints?
I only just found this out as I am going for my citizenship but when a kiwi enters Australia, they are automatically allocated a special class visa 444. When you leave Australia(for a holiday for example) and decide to come backl in, you are then given a new 444 visa number. It’s a misconception that we don’t need a visa as it happens in the background without us being none the wiser until you need to advise immigration what your number is, lol. Was a shock when I learnt that.
@@drewlats1658 so we each are given special visa’s that dont run out/ happen in the background. So it still comes back to either Marty isnt a citizen or the statement was purely for the video. I only ask, ask my uncle. Born in NZ was in the country for at least 26 years (age of my cousin) before he became a citizen of Australia this year. I do feel bad for anyone taking the test, as the questions are strange abd I guarantee that maybe 1/20 born Australians actually know the answers to.

@@prancingpiranha9092 Yeah I feel like Martys comment was a bit tongue and cheek. Dont quote me on this but visa's generally run for a min of a month but thats just my assumption. I reckon his comment was just in reference to his flight back to Oz and running out of time. Hopefully he clears it up in a future episode as I really want to know too. Your uncle is lucky in the fact that he was probably here well before Jan 2004(i think that was the date of the cutoff). If you arrived before that date then you could apply for your Oz citizenship without having to go through the permanent resident route. I arrived in Feb 2004 and had to go through my PR, wait a year and then now I am eligible for my citizenship. I am actually not against immigration making it hard for people getting their citizenship but youre right, the test is a bit over the top. At least they give you a book to study, with all of the answers in it though. I wish it was an open book test. Haha
Possum was a God when I was younger, what a beautiful build, this is an amazing video of an engine build, thanks guys, can't wait to see what she does,
Big credit to my guy for so easily and meticulously talking through the build process while also doing a class build job of the motor. I get that must be hard to do first time and he just knows exactly what to say and how to explain it for novices like me in terms of engine parts/build processes.
Glenn really is one in a million - you can tell he's incredibly passionate about his work and it shows. Extremely knowledgeable and phenomenal at his craft
Thanks for showing off more New Zealand motor sports legends and their companies! This was just as awesome as the guys from skid factories tour of PPRE. Possum was the reason we went to the kaipara rally every year back in the days! Awesome content!
new i do really understand how much work it takes to completely rebuild an entire engine. Mad respect for the dudes who make something like this. it´s like an art form.
This has to be my most favorite video I seen from you guys so far. The technical side of building the engine was amazing. Marty did such a great job with Glenn recording the process of building the engine. While Moog was not there, he contributed so much with his amazing music. The music was amazing and it reminded me why I subscribed all the years ago when you were turbo'ing a Miata with turbo Yoda. Thank you for giving me so much free entertainment over the years.
So glad Marty finally bit the bullet and got a CDB. No more wandering cylinders to kill head gaskets 👍 Gonna be really interesting to see what amount of reliable BHP you get out of this. I love it when a YT channel does things properly unlike so many that are all about the click bait content 😉
Amazing insight on how a boxer 6 is made and assembled. I would add from my limited experience that valve stem seals should be added without any oil on the seats so they can grip dry on dry and not slip afterwards during high rpm. Some people even add a bit of loctite, I'd say that it's excessive if they are installed properly. I've had friends of mine who installed them with oil or haven't cleaned the seats properly only to have them slip out of position and then the engine starts burning oil. Luckily it is not such a difficult thing to rectify afterwards as you only need to take out the cam cover and cams themselves. Also I would highly suggest using valve sleeves when installing the stem seals as the sharp edge on the stem where the keepers are designed to sit, can damage the soft lip of the stem seals when passing through them. So the correct order is valves in first, sleeve on valve second, then stem seal pushed all the way down on a dry seat, a drop of oil on where the valve stem meets the seal, manually move the valve up and down a couple of time so there is a film of oil between valve stem and seal, then valve springs and keepers. This ensures that they are in place and sufficiently lubricated on the first engine start until the oil pump builds pressure
I love that at @10:45 you picked up an engine part, and he came over to make sure you were not messing up his careful layout, that are all matched parts.
Coming from someone who did a bunch of LS valve springs with the Good ol socket and hammer I'm am extremely jealous of the valve spring compressor machine 😍😍
3:54 The imagery of this invokes past memories of V1 Supergramps. Just seeing a Subie Wagon that's still a work in progress being showered on by a rain storm outside. It's almost like a sign of sorts.

Haha
Possum was a God when I was younger, what a beautiful build, this is an amazing video of an engine build, thanks guys, can't wait to see what she does,
Hang on, is Marty not Australian?
Why does he need a visa in NZ?
(TYSM for the vid guys, could have watched another hour)
I was wondering the same thing. Had to check if the rules had changed. But nope Australian citizens do not need a visa for NZ.
Big credit to my guy for so easily and meticulously talking through the build process while also doing a class build job of the motor. I get that must be hard to do first time and he just knows exactly what to say and how to explain it for novices like me in terms of engine parts/build processes.
I thought this engine was going to be a built EZ36!
EZ30 has more aftermarket support than the 36
Also ez30 sounds 👌👌
Glenn really is one in a million - you can tell he's incredibly passionate about his work and it shows. Extremely knowledgeable and phenomenal at his craft
Dude was hand picked by Possum Borne to assemble his engines so hell yeah he is.
Kudos to the engine builder, I've never seen someone laying the silicone so perfectly, you can tell the level of high precision by it
Thanks for showing off more New Zealand motor sports legends and their companies! This was just as awesome as the guys from skid factories tour of PPRE. Possum was the reason we went to the kaipara rally every year back in the days! Awesome content!
Definitely a big TV episode. Great subject, great people, great music.
new i do really understand how much work it takes to completely rebuild an entire engine. Mad respect for the dudes who make something like this. it´s like an art form.
Geez, the Levorg is already my favorite build and this just stepped it up further. Good job keeping new and interesting content coming.
Living in the UK, I've never heard of Possum Bourne but then I'm watching this and see a work friend share their stuff on socials at the same time.
So glad Marty finally bit the bullet and got a CDB. No more wandering cylinders to kill head gaskets 👍 Gonna be really interesting to see what amount of reliable BHP you get out of this. I love it when a YT channel does things properly unlike so many that are all about the click bait content 😉
I hope wer're going to see Glenn again, he is such a pleasure to listen to !
This is the coolest video MCM has ever done - and I've been watching for 13 years!
I like this engine builder guy. He is very knowledgeable and seems kind. :)
The precision and care required to build big grunt custom engines is fascinating.
