    In this video I talk about why I don't use bones bushing and the proper way to break in thunder bushings (or any other bushing) so you don't end up breaking them or ruining the way the bushings skate. Lots of people have said they don't like thunder skateboard bushings and while I think bones bushings are great bushings they don't fit thunder skateboard trucks meaning they ruin the geometry make the trucks turn differently as well as pinch different for crooked grind tricks. The key is to not tighten your bushings when you put them in. You should ride your skateboard with the brand new thunder bushings totally loose for about an hour to let the bushings harden otherwise if you tighten your bushing right away the pressure will crush the bushings before they have a chance to break in.

    The clear reds bushings are 90du. They have a solid red that's a 97du. I normally ride my bushing factory default for about 15 hours for a day or two. They definitely tighten up on their own. In the summer they loosen up again. Winter they get harder.

    i solved overtightening my Indys by switching to the 92a duro.
    I'm a heavy guy, and always cut into my bushings, even tho i ride on the looser side. After 20yrs, i finally have the perfect turn/response after i switched AND took off my top washer.
    I have zero problems w/ chipping now (although i'm not doing Crooks&Smiths😏), and recommend this for anyone (w/ Indys) to keep from stretching out ur kingpin and squishing your cushions.👍🏾
    Get the conical ones for even more response. I use those on my cruiser🤙🏾

    Love Thunders for their wider axel base.. I find that the Hardcores fit well if you put their flat washer where the bottom washer usually goes.

    I like the super hard bones bushings, they don’t stick and as a tight truck aficionado, they’re resilient to splitting. I ride Indy’s with them, and although I tried to be on brand and went for the hard independent bushings, they just weren’t as good, they split super quick and I’m 140 lbs.

    Great to know on the bushing getting a bit stiffer. I have a box of bushings I immediately removed and replaced with bones. Gonna throw the stocks back in and see what happens.

    All you have to do to stop the top bushings from cracking is buy a set of krux bushings and use the top washer that comes with them. It's less cupped so it doesn't dig in like the thunder washers do. Or you can use a flat washer but that takes away some stability.

    Hey Joe, just wanted to suggest that you should try adjusting which washer you use in which truck brand to maintain geometry if you’re using bones bushings. From my own measurements, Indy bottom bushing is 13 mm while Thunder is 14 mm. Bones is 14mm as well, so you need to use the bottom washer with thunders, but you shouldn’t use them with Indy’s (bushing washers are about 1mm thick).
    The thickness of top bushing doesn’t change the geometry quite as directly - its effect is the same as if you adjusted the tightness of the kingpin nut. That being said, the top bushing on bones are pretty tall, so it would almost make sense to not use any top washer with thunders, which definitely affects durability :/

    I have Indy 149 mids and I run a mix of the 94 and 90 duro bushings in each truck. The big bushing is the blue 94 for stability and the top bushing is the red 90 for easy turns. I haven’t had them explode like yours yet but I’ve only been doing this for a month or so.

      @@AlexProspect I do still skate with mixed bushings and it works great. I switched out the thunder bushings for a bones medium bottom bushing and an independent soft top bushing because the bones bushings don’t require a bottom washer and it makes my trucks lower.

  • @2namesmusic
    @2namesmusic 9 місяців тому +1

    This is the most annoying thing about new bushings if you skate tighter trucks. My last set of indys I was trying to skate looser so I broke them in. It was winter so they didn't get shredded when I tightened them. But the new ones are shredded up from 1.5 threads showing after one session in the summer (they still feel kinda loose). Gonna crank them down & wreck them until I get around to buying something harder.
    Even one sesh on a set up I hate is so frustrating. Wish the bushings came pre-worn-in similar to how clothes come pre-shrunk. Hope that buying the harder bushings solve the problem.

    nice review... whats your weight? i tought i needed hard ones cause i'm 75kg and do gaps and hard landings, but maybe i need better quality bushings. was wondering to buy precisely that Thunder reconstruction kit in 95 or 100a... maybe mix them so 95/100...
    i ripped off Ace mediums, and tons of generic bushings 90-100

    Just put an extra normal flat washer or two to match the height for the bones bushing so the trucks are set to its designed height with the stock bushing. Ps fit it with an inverted kingpin .

  • @Notblakewilson
    @Notblakewilson Рік тому

    broken/chunked stock bushings are fine, no need to replace just re-tighten when they feel loose. Bones bushings on the other hand completely fall apart/crumble when they explode which is much worse imo.

      @Notblakewilson Рік тому

      Im not a huge fan of bones anymore since I mainly switched to spitfire wheels due to flat spotting and ovaling pretty much every set of bones wheels I’ve had though… so im a little biased lmao.

    I just bought a new pair of thunders and they came with red bushings (soft ones) and I am used to skate the blue ones, now I need to buy the blue ones which i think are harder. It´s annoying that you have to buy a pair of the bushings you need. Any way, now I know I need to skate them loose and then tighten them up. Who would´ve tought

    Just a question for anyone here: I have a pair of Thunder trucks for over 10 years, but they're still in good condition. Would it be best to buy new bushings (in my case, Thunder 100a) or a new set of trucks? I just spent 30 minutes straight trying to get my bushings into my trucks, and I cannot for the life of me get the top screw on with both bushings and both washers.

    I just break in whatever bushings come with the truck. Even if they crack, I’m usually use to them by that time and it usually never matters.
    I also use to ride Bones for a while and I came to the realization after about a year that besides the instant break in feel, they’re pretty much just expensive bushings that blow out quicker than other bushings.
