    Most people say the "pick matching rocks out of bags with your loved one" challenge was just a way to come up with a cheap challenge that saved money. But I've always felt that the producers realized that some players throw the loved ones challenge because they know it's death to win and then have to pick who else gets to see their loved one - you always end up pissing off half the tribe, and if you give up your reward for everyone else then you immediately get voted out because that was such a nice thing and they can't let you get to FTC now. So they came up with a loved ones challenge that was impossible for the players to throw.

      @@rowan4573 A lot of players say they want to throw the loved ones challenge. Cochran in Caramoan (or was it South Pacific) *threw* the loved ones challenge. It was unlikely that he was going to win it if he actually tried (this one you had to do the challenge with your loved one, which was Cochran's mom) but he put next to no effort into the actual challenge. You could see him and his mother walking through the challenge and he was asking her how she was and what was going on back home.

  • @TheMichaelmyth
    @TheMichaelmyth Рік тому +4

    The weird thing is that I think some of these challenges could work. Like the shuffle board one. I can't remember the name of the actual challenge but they've done it several times. The spider maze challenge, usually in like the final 6 or so. The one where each person has to do a set of challenges to get a bag of puzzle pieces from each section. Have it be like that but you get the shuffle board discs instead. Then the challengers have to get all of their discs into a set of holes spread across a giant board. Other players, once caught up can try to interfere or leave a disc in the way and hope someone knocks it in or they have to run to pick it up.
    You really just need to add layers to the challenge. Like the pulling a ball out of the bag. That could be like an entry round into teams for a set of challenges where new teams are picked every challenge. Each person on the winning team gets a point and the first person(s) ti 5 points wins. That way there could be sabotage from a loved one on the other team attempting to help their partner win more points.
    It is kinda fun to watch the show basically run out of budget sometimes though.

      @ajl9772 Рік тому +8

      It wasn't the strategy he disapproved of. He disapproved of them already picking the winner ahead of time. At that point, as Jeff said, why waste time "playing" and not just name the winner? I think the challenge can still work, but perhaps they need to change it to the winner and only the winner getting the reward, to incentive more people not to throw the challenge.

    • @violetbluejay
      @violetbluejay Рік тому +8

      @@ajl9772 This. Jeff rarely if ever is actually upset when contestants hack challenges in the moment - more often than not he's impressed by the ingenuity. He gets annoyed when contestants *break* challenges well in advance, and this is far from the only example of it happening. Hell, its basically the reason why there's no more survivor auction, since contestants were going into those seasons knowing that whenever the auction was they just weren't going to participate until the advantage came up. It tanked the value of the non-advantage items and drained a lot of the fun competitiveness that was really the spirit of the early iterations we all know and love because half the cast wasn't participating until the final prize and the half that was playing was getting steak dinners for the cost of 5 Doritos in the early days.

    Some of these feel better for a different gameshow from Britain called, "Taskmaster". Biggest ones I see for genuine tasks might be the stilts one in some way and also the kite one (Of course with much worse materials, since taskmaster is kind of about hilariously screwing over the players sometimes. ) On screwing the players actually, the knot untying one seems like something they would do to a single player, claiming it was a real task, only for none of the other contesters to do it.... Making the reveal in the panel segment uniquely awkward, might even be up there with the flabbergasted nature of the contestent from season 1 who was forced to count how many beans were in a can of beans, spaghetti os in a spaghetti o can, and gains of rice in a rice bag

      21 flags may be worst because it is a solved puzzle. The team that won the coin flip could take one flag, then take four minus what the other team took after that. The other team ends up at 4 and no matter how many they take you can take the rest and win.

    In terms of what I *would watch:*
    Stilt Walking is less lame for me than the *flying of kites*. At least people trip up. Much more comedy in that than a kite getting stuck in a tree, or aerodynamic construction.
    I think that making a kite beats playing shuffleboard for TV; but the playing of shuffle board still slightly edges it with "Cornhole" like suspense.
    I think the ladder ball beats the shuffleboard for the same reason that I watch axe throwing. In fact, the mud ball challenge makes better TV for a one timer than shuffleboard, though it may be less decisive. Toss up in the long term.
    Bowling beat shuffle board, mud ball, kite flying & ladder ball. As for throwing a ball near a flag; ladder ball, mud ball & bowling beats that; but I would rather watch kite building and flying . . . _Something abstract and corporeal about the strategy._
    As for fishing, probably a lot more slow; so put it second in laughs to stilts; but below preference to most of them. Put the bag of rocks and the least preferable challenge of the ten.

    Two nominees not on the list, both from Thailand 1) 21 flags challenge from Thailand. Not only the second lowest budget after #1 on this list, but if players on both teams knew that the hack is to leave a multiple of four flags, then it goes to the winner of the coin flip. 2) Fish sorting at the family reward. Arguably lamer than catching fish.

    COMPLETELY disagree with the marbles out of a bag challenge, that was BRILLIANT! Having that on the loved one challenge 100% prevented a smart player from deliberately tanking the challenge to avoid having to reveal their pecking order. How many times have we seen players cruising to wins get derailed by winning the loved one challenge, being forced to pick other players to get "love", and then getting voted out?! Smart players tank this challenge, but making it 100% luck made that impossible, I love that they actually did this!

    If it were your Job to keep the Survivor Reward, Immunity & Elimination Challenges fresh & exciting you'd need a LOT of help. And I'm sure this reality show franchise has exactly that, teams of Challenge developers. Ur Bound to get "Writers Block" at some point ! You know, "It seemed like a good idea at the Time"! ; ) Lame Challenges dont bother me as much as the Game has evolved into "Goat Survivor". Seasons 38 & 39 solidifies that. Players have been taught to vote out Anyone the Jury might like, or who has a Story, or a "Survivor Resumè". The latest episode in Season 43 has the leg amputee, Noelle Lambert, voted out after an Epic "come from behind" Win after struggling w/ a Balance Beam . . . and she's immediately voted out because her Story is so compelling. Survivor has tried to mitigate this problem by making the game much "Riskier". We'll be lucky to see another Colby Donaldson, Boston Rob, Kim Spradlin or Aubrey Bracco even get close to a finish anymore, they're too good a player and will be identified for elimination. Survivor may have peaked.

    I think I'd have thrown the word search over some of these. At least for shuffleboard and bocce ball you can follow along by studying the board and watching people's strategies to figure out whether they should go for the target, play defense, knock someone else away, etc. so there's something to actually do while watching. What are you supposed to do while watching a word search? You can't visibly figure out anyone's strategy, you can't play along because it doesn't keep the camera aimed on the grid, it just doesn't work as a tv product.
