Most of the time I prefer using as fast a shutter speed as I still can with reasonably clean (not very high ISO) image because then I can just grab frames from the 6K Open Gate video and provide them as almost-real photos, the 6K Open Gate video being so darn good. That's, however, VERY hard if the camera uses 1/30s shutter speed and frames just exhibit major motion blur / camera pan blur.
@@mostlyfinnishlifeeventsand5112 Be great full for work in photo mode. No camera is perfect and you don't get everything you need focus on your main things
Just sent my rental back today (10/7/24) after using it all weekend. Love the entire sysytem. Selling off some Fuji gear to be able to get into this system for my photo and video work in Real Estate and Portrait work. Great video.
Great camera. I use it for run n gun travel videos. Stabilization is perfect. I shoot everything exclusively handheld, I don't carry any stabilizers or a tripod with me. I combined my S5IIx into a rig with Blackmagic VideoAssist and SmallRig V-mount batteries. A real small cinema camera. BRAW is wonderful to work with in DaVinci.
Love my S5IIX Coming from an og S5 I got it over the regular S5II for having the features if I need it some time in the future, but looking back I think I‘d rather safe some bucks for the non X version.
Hi! I would be happy if you can tell me if it's possible to record 6K ProRes on the Ninja V with this camera or I can only record ProRes Raw if I want 6K ?
You mention the dual sd card slots for shooting long podcasts… Aren’t you losing out on a smoother edit by not shooting in ProRes? When/why do you choose to use ProRes with ssd vs using sd cards? Also great color grading!
BTW, speaking of music: I've used the 28-200 to film, among other things, really loud death metal concerts with the S5 II (on a tripod). I had initially been afraid of keeping the OIS enabled in the lens as I've had very bad experience with almost all iPhones' (non-disable-able) physical stabilization wobbling during loud music. No such problem with the 28-200.
So I can recommend the S 28-200 for concert if you only have one camera (one man) and would like to do even extreme zooming. Of course the lack of a motorized zoom is an issue with all L-mount lenses.
For documentary I would look for a good zoom lens. 28-200 is nice, it may not be super versatile cause of the lower aperture. What is your ideal budget?
@@Ansonandco Everyone has the right to spend their money as they please. IMO it's just sad that many people don't actually USE their cameras anymore and just want to brag about the newest thing. This will encourage companies to build cameras that don't last and still pay premium prices for it.
Really want to get this camera but the heavier processing (sharpening and noise reduction) which the older cameras didn't have S5/S1/S1H has kind of swayed me away. That and the poor hdmi latency + not being able to punch in while recording. The AF is really good and Prores RAW/BM RAW looks great out of it.
Hey Anson, Love the S5iiX but it is missing one key feature TIME CODE JAM OVER AUDIO (like blackmagic) or USB C (LIKE SONY) I can put a TRS cable from my Deity TC1 timecode generator to my BMPCC 4K, 6K and it snaps the TC right away sony and even my DJI ACTION 4 can do that over USB C which is crazy that LUMIX forgot to implement this feature to S5iiX I would pay for it if needed... If you can talk to your friends LUMIX ambassador and give the feedback to LUMIX please implement it in a firmware update it schould be doable imho... and the camera would be perfect even for the pros (OLPF can be on the GH 7 SH2ii ) TIMECODE please LUMIX
@@nikkola2329 biggest one for me right now is when you are recording raw you can’t see your preview LUT. And you can’t record ARRI log in raw. Outside of that the focus magnification is soft
@@Ansonandco Wow! You can’t even have the LUT displayed on an external monitor itself? Wait.. does the S5iiX do Arri log too? ..I thought it’s just the new GH’s feature..
@@nikkola2329 wow I’m really sorry, the thumbnail looks like my gh7 review. The quirks for the s5iix is that the focus magnification is soft. The audio channels also come into your editor as a five channel. There is no way currently to disable it. It’s a little annoying. Beyond that it’s pretty solid honestly
Another major missing thing is a define-able minimal shutter speed in terms of the current focal length (for example using the well-known reciprocal rule (1/focal length in seconds) minus some, user-definable, 2-3-4-5 stops for the entire zoom range), juts like the one even with the oldest Fujifilm system cameras. With superzoom lenses like the 28-200 you can't use for example 1/15 to shoot at 200mm (while having almost all shots blur-free), which would otherwise be more than sufficient for 28mm. Even a pain reciprocal lower end would be better than having to ALWAYS re-set the min. shutter speed in A mode in the menu.
What are some of your likes or dislikes of the S5iix?
Biggest dislike: can't give it the minimal shutter speed when shooting video. It's only available in photo mode.
