i bought lumixs5iix 6 months before for wedding video shortfilms etc and i confirm it is an awseome mulimachine for videographers.I had sony a7iii, canon r9 before and i sold them for lumix and i will change opinion if only another camera give me better stabilization ,better image quality ,12 bit raw video and at least 15 stop of dr in this price range of 2,500 euros
Been a Canon cinema shooter for many years. I'm watching while waiting for delivery today of my S5iix. This is easily the best video I've seen on the camera's features, with a little fun and goofiness thrown in for good measure (the sneeze :))). Thanks, Dustin, for taking the time to deliver a truly excellent review / guide.
Great camera. I use it for run n gun travel videos. Stabilization is perfect. I shoot everything exclusively handheld, I don't carry any stabilizers or a tripod with me. I combined my S5IIx into a rig with Blackmagic VideoAssist and SmallRig V-mount batteries. A real small cinema camera. BRAW is wonderful to work with in DaVinci.
This was actually a very informative video. This is the closest I have come to pulling the trigger on the newest model. It would be SUPER helpful if you went more in depth as to the drawbacks and shortcomings, such as the rolling shutter issues. That way, I would know more about what I am getting into and what steps I need to have in place beforehand. Knowing those details helps to sober ones expectations in making a decision.
I have a S5ii, not the X and this is hands down the best summarized video for all the fantastic features packed in this gorgeous camera body. After watching this video I felt in love with my camera even more even without the features on the X-version. Great effort and keep on posting Lumix videos! ✌️
Just a great video Dustin…Thanks man!…Got my IIX a few days ago and this vid'll help me investigate some of the features, as I plough through the 923 page manual!…Yes people, THAT"s the actual number of pages! 😁
Great video Dustin and enjoying your content. I make docs and my main concern about Lumix and grabbing the S5iiX is how it deals with highly exposed skin. e.g. The right side of your face shows no detail at all. Was this a stylistic choice or fault of the sensor?
I hope they come out with a S5iiH (even more video centered). It needs to have: -60fps no crop (120 if they can do it) -Fast read out speed (12ms or less) -CF Express type B -Pro Res directly to cards (Fuji did it with the XH2s so they can) -Recipes like Fuji does -Box style w/ mount points like FX3/FX30 -FIX THE HDMI LAG PLEASE!!! It has plagued Lumix since the S5/S1
#2 "C4K is slightly wider than UHD" - technically it's not: both modes use the full width of the sensor, therefore UHD provides the same horizontal angle of view and slightly wider vertical angle of view. In other words, although C4K provides more pixels, it cuts top and bottom part of what you could get in UHD. ##41-42 It worth to mention customizable Q-settings with the Q button. #51 Hi-Res mode right in camera, without any extra software in post. Brilliant feature, I use it a lot. And only Pentax K-1 provided the same functionality in Full-Frame sensor. Your cons: "Rolling shutter is bad" - disagree. For the non-Stacked Full-Frame sensor it is decent. No black magic here, just decent for that type of sensor. "Autofocus ... has some weird nuances" - well, I like it. Very reliable and with the 2.0 firmware update it became even more snappy. It worth to learn what all of the autofocus settings are about though. What's weird is that in the last minute of this video it shows that the body firmware is 1.9 while you are talking about some features from the firmware 2.0 Like you video, thank you for it!
Dustin I am a sports photographer and videographer - moving into video more so. How does the camera cope with sports or action? Currently shooting on a Canon M50 and althoufg it only shoots in 1080p its actually really good. I do rely on AF though for sports like soccer. The Lumix S5II looks the goods as long as the AF can hold up
Have you used EF Glass with these cams? If so how does the autofocus perform with the sigma adapter? Thanks for the list, looking to move from gh5 up to FF
I have and it works really well. Definitely could have been something I put on the list with the AF. If you watch my previous video, you can see an example during the AF section where I show me using a Canon lens
I use mine with a Canon 50mm f1.2 prime....ironically on my old canon c200 it doesn't have stabilisation...but the Lumix IBIS works beautifully along with the auto focus.
The camera looks great. But the two things that keep me from buying it is that I just went from Canon to Sony ecosystem some months ago and don't want to switch again, as I am looking for one ecosystem to stay in during the rest of my career. Especially as lenses aren't that cheap for beginners who are just starting their filmmaking journey.😅
Nice vide Dustin! I'm considering buying that camera. But I often use a shotgun mic with autofocus. So do the Sigma lenses (especially 28-70) has loud noise using AF? And the primes S 18mm, S 50mm...? Thank you.
I am definitely buying but I have a dilemma. I’ve been watching all your videos on the s5ii and s5iix. I’m looking to buy an s5iix. I’m using the student discount and I can’t decide which bundle. I would mainly be using it for my tech UA-cam channel. The options are the s5iix with the 20-60 and the 50mm for 2200 bundle or get the body only and bundle it with the 24, 35, and 50 for 2400? what would be the best option. I don't really care about the price difference since I'm already paying over 2k no matter what
I think getting the 3 primes would be better. The 20-60mm though is really solid. If the 28-200 is available might be worth considering unless you need the faster lens
Dustin i have a question...not actually a question but i want to know, does the only usb c on s5iix support usb c splitter for both data transfer via usb c ssd and same time charging, Actually i am building a small rig with s5iix and i wanna keep simple things as simple as possible, i dont wana use dtab with a dummy battery...... Usb c port for data recording to ssd and power to the camera via small rig v mount battery v50 , and use the power for moniter directly on to the v mount battery.
If you're asking can you use an SSD and record at the same time over USB-C, I'm pretty sure the answer is no. But you can record over HDMI and use the USB-C port. You'd need to use a dummy battery
@DustinArmstrongPro You make such cool videos. I just got my s5iix and your video helped me understand the camera's many settings. And you did it in short order. This is your thing, dude. You're good!
Lens options? I own a 5iix but kind of regret because of lack of good lens options. Not sure how good the non-pro lenses are. I currently own a Lumix 85mm and Sigma 24-70mm but looking for a lens for wildlife. Not convinced the Sigma lenses are that good. One or two Lumix native lenses would be great but Panasonic is too slow in coming up with new lenses. Just my opinion.
@@DustinArmstrongPro Precisely, release more native Lumix lenses that cover all ranges to help users benefit from those small advantages, but lenses of good quality. Not lenses for the sake of lenses. I am not saying Sigma lenses are bad. Native lenses are always good. If Panasonic wants a big shift in their market share, they need to focus on lenses, not just camera bodies. People invest in lenses but they change their camera bodies (I am sure you know that more than I do).
There seems to be a huge oversight in Panasonic software compared to Sony. Quote from the Sony manual : "To continuously adjust the focus and exposure during continuous shooting, set as follows: - [Focus Mode]: [Continuous AF] - [ AEL w/ shutter]: [Off] " This seems not possible with Panasonic in AF/S or MF mode . Also if you shoot AFC and switch to MF via lens the camera reverts to AEL via shutter - as long as Panasonic does not fix this it pretty useless. Haters please note: I shoot both systems professionally :)
50? Nice number. 1. It takes photos. 2. It records video. 3. I has a shutter. 4. I has shutter release :D. ... :D ... sorry couldn't resist :D S5IIX is great camera if you have few lenses for it. Without lenses is kinda lame :D
But Dustin, I already bought it twice, there's no need for you to convince me for a third time... 🍻🍻

Great video! By the way, how would I use the proxies in DaVinci Resolve? Link the media to the proxies folder in the media tab?
There's tutorials on the best workflow in resolve. Maybe I'll have to do one too

Looks great. I love lumix but getting accessories here in the philippines can be hard. I ended up with a sony A74. I still use microfour thirds lumix
That's a legitimate reason to not use LUMIX if the country you're in is hard to get it
