- This is Mike Heller recording the Malignancy song "Cataclysmic Euphoria" for fun. The song originally appears on the Malignancy album entitled Eugenics. What you see is exactly what you are hearing. The audio has not been quantized or fixed or anything. (Sorry about the one camera angle! I did not realize that the camera was messed up until after putting the video together!)

I've played (drums), heard and enjoyed extreme metal since the early 90's and how this monster of a guy went under the radar for me is a mystery.. Supremely fucking good drummer, every single beat is awesome.

Just ordered two Malignancy records (most recent) because the little I've heard sounds right up my alley. Now that I see the abilities of the drummer, wow! Takes patience and practice to become this good. Lots. Hats off, my man.

Hey Luis, glad you like it! First off, these are Tama Starclassic B/B drums, which sound absolutely awesome, and I tuned them the way I like them. On the SLP G-maple snare I have Shure SM57s top and bottom, which I have compressed and EQ'd. On the toms I have Shure Beta98s which I have compressed and EQ'd. On the kick there's a Shure Beta52, which I have compressed and EQ'd, and added a little bit of a sample to.

That is a 7x13 Tama SLP G-Maple snare drum. I was just trying it out in this video and I LOVE it!!
Holy shit! Original sound, beastly drumming, I knew the drums for Cataclysmic Euphoria were sick but not on this level!
Hey man, that's a Tama SLP G-Maple snare, 7x13". Those are the stock heads that it comes with believe it or not. Tama only deals with quality stuff! The way I get that sound is to tune the top head to medium tight tension, and then tune the bottom head way tighter than the top head. I also put one little piece of Moon Gel on the top right, at around the 1:00 o'clock position. Thanks man!

Well, that's a really rough question to answer... considering that I go through heads a LOT more often with Fear Factory than with any other band... but I usually try to keep heads for as long as humanly possible.. until they sound really bad, or if I'm going to be recording an album or something.
Thanks man, I appreciate it! I have played the SLP Classic Maple snare, and while it's absolutely awesome, I prefer this one.... I love the sound of this drum, and I love the 13" diameter over the 14" of the classic maple.... but I'm not sure what you mean about "soft sound."
