Based on my reading the comments on other reviews, I think that top guard is considered a major pain because it prevents coming under a log to cut it. If you did much chainsawing, you wouldn't be "indifferent". That is a technique that sometimes HAS to be used to keep the bar from being pinched. I think saws that have it should get at least SOME negative feedback from the reviewer, since it is simply a "Lawyer Feature". IMHO If it isn't required on a more powerful and faster running gas saw, it isn't required on something that moves as slow as these battery saws. Running at low RPM is also why they don't require bar oil like their piston driven brothers.
Just for the record, I have always been able to cut logs that were nearly twice the diameter of the exposed part of the chain, so I don't know why the limit would be 8" with this one. A 12 inch log (isn't the exposed bar about 6 inches?) would have been a true test of its max ability, again, just IMHO. Someone who is keeping this with them for trail clearing or road clearing after a storm, might find that info useful.
I'm not accusing you of anything deceptive, I may have mis-perceived what I saw or you may have just made an editing choice, but that second cut plunged into the log to the bar's width in a split second, almost as if it had a deep cut in it to begin with. Did you start a cut and then have to pause (Mrs. Live Free and Tool On wanted the toilet unstopped, for instance) and then resumed the filming? LOL

does the tool have those little HP battery contacts? those are supposed to delivery extra/continuous high power, yeah?

It's not oiless. Ryobi simply cheaped out and didn't put an automatic oiler on it. Unlike Milwaukee, and unlike Kobalt. You have to oil the Ryobi chain by hand. Which is ridiculous considering other brands have found ways to incorporate oilers into their competitive designs.

I still prefer to have my oil tank built in like it’s big brother Milwaukee 8” pruning saw or the M12 pruning hatchet! Still not a bad lil tool.
