I have one and and haven’t had a problem. I also have the Milwaukee m12 it’s only used for small branches 3-6 inches that one has a larger battery than the Milwaukee they all will stop through thicker branches so you don’t burn it out if you don’t push down and let the tool do the work it’s fine they say it’s a oil free chain although it doesn’t have a oil compartment like the Milwaukee so they are saying to take the cover off and clean the saw dust then spay lubricant on the parts but I still oil the chain.

Absolutely! All chains can bog down if used without finess. Here, Ryobi even provided indicator LEDs to assist with one’s application of the tool. Bit of a rambling review that’s lacking careful thoughts.

Disappointed about the plastic tensioning knob. Had one like that on a gas Jonsured and it kept falling off and I went back to Husky for my 18-inch bar gas saw. A six inch is really what I need but may go to 8, who knows. Already have three Ryobi batteries and so I am probably going to stick - or am stuck - with this brand. This winter in Vermont, so many storms knocking down lilacs, pine branches and small threes that a pruning saw is really what I want, so appreciate the review.

Inaccurate comment on the desirability for HP batteries on this tool as it doesn’t even have the additional electrical contacts to make use of the extra performance of HP batteries. Regular Ryobi 18V batteries work just fine with this tool to gain the benefits of the brushless motor and is what comes with the kit (saw, battery, charger) product. Otherwise the chain tensioner knob setup works perfectly well in my experience. Much easier than bringing out the spanner.

Does it require lubrication on the chain?

Yes, the instructions advises a few drops of chain/bar oil before each day’s use. Practically, it’s wise to just monitor the lubrication status of the chain during use, a few drops when dry.
