This just shows how fast rap moves. All these dudes were big in the blog & mixtape era and now we're talking about them as if their careers are finished.
@alexandreavelar9384 It is but a lot of these dudes were still relevant going into the 2nd half of the decade. The question that should be asked is that "Did they fall off?" or did their run just naturally end?
Wale went Diamond off "No Hands" last year and sold out the Kennedy Center and also just signed a new deal with Def Jam in addition to releasing 2 pretty solid albums, (one with a song that went triple platinum) since 2019.
I feel like this is what deadend hip hop should be. Group discussions. P.S b.o.b started talking that flat earth nonsense and antisemitic remarks. So probably blackballed.
Funny note. His 2 big hits Airplanes and Nothin on You were original recorded by Lupe and supposed to be on Lasers but Atlantic scrapped Lu and gave them to BoB
I think Wale still good in some circles, he's just not as big as he once was for sure. I think some of his lashing out definitely played a role in that. But what's funny is that he was kind of ahead of his time with that. I remember him talking about being depressed and all that and getting clowned. Now mental health is a much more prominent conversation in hip hop and everybody talks about being depressed. But I feel like whenever Wale drops, it's dope and it still gets some motion. His more recent joint with J. Cole gets play. I've heard a few other joints get some decent play over the past few years. I think he can definitely drop another poppin album. His last one was in 2021 and although I didn't listen to it much myself, it did chart. He's due for another one this year I think.
Also, kind of funny that the firs hit that had Bruno Mars featured on it was "Nothing On You". In fact, as I remember, there weren't many Bruno Mars songs out therer at that time. If you googled him you only had the b.o.b song, an accoustic solo Bruno jam and a song called "Her World goes On" with that club influence that was very popular at that time.
A lot of rappers fall off. But unfortunately for my generation our 3 biggest stars in Juice Wrld, XXXTentacion and Pop Smoke all died young. Even if I didn’t love all their music they moved rap culture and were superstars.
He laid low for a while but has been back dropping music fairly consistently over the past few years. He's put out a few EPs. I say go check it out, he's still dope.
When it’s all said and done wale gonna be one of the best lyricists even if it’s over for him his body of work for those who know is super sufficient for me
I can agree with this to a certain extent because unlike Cozz he really has built him a solid fanbase that’s separate from the label. He’s personally one of my favorites but i also understand why he hasn’t broken out a bit more generally speaking if that makes sense. How do you feel about his last album?
Y'all need to listen to the singles Chance has been dropping. He's been out to prove something for a minute. I'm' genuinely looking forward to his next album if it sounds anything like he's been putting out.
The dude Ken was talking to was right. Fetty Wap had way more than 1 hit. Trap Queen, 679, My Way (especially the remix with Drake), Again, Time, Jugg...his debut was a hit parade. I was in high school that year and he RAN the entire school year, he was playing everywhere, every car, out of the speakers we brought in our backpacks. Always. We all knew every word to those songs. It was the closest experience I have to compare to how DEHH describes Doggystyle or Get Rich Or Die Tryin. That album was huge.
Yeah, I was out in them streets when that album dropped and I remember it being huge. I never really listened to him (outside of hearing it everywhere I was), but I remember people loving Fetty. He had a big white following as well. He could have been big but I don't think he was able to follow-up with another album.
Jon Conner just dropped and it was fire... possibly his best project yet (aside from his mixtapes run) it was a positive sounding album without being corny but the production was probably the low point save a handful of tracks (and even that wasn't that bad tbh just a little uninspired) put Conner with someone like real bad man, maybe harry fraud or obviously Al and he could do numbers
@FreshTuna yeah you were there so you get it. That was 2015. Now history is rewritten and people swear it was To Pimp a Butterfly but no it was Fetty Wap's year. Calling TPAB the greatest hip hop album ever didn't start until later.
I think he waited too long after Kismet, and then people don't rock with EPs much so he wasn't getting attention for a minute. It is wild because he's been killing it and putting out dope music videos throughout the years. His last album deserved a lot more love than it got.
Chance had been dropping looseys for the better part of 4 years. They’ve been bar heavy to show the pen is strong, but nothing concrete and no momentum. He needs a feature run before rolling out a project so it doesn’t fall on deaf ears…
Chance the rapper has dropped some loosies after the big day and honestly they’ve all been pretty good to fantastic songs. He just need to drop an album again to prove himself.
BoB had multiple hits including a Taylor Swift feature! His problem was he listened to the haters saying he was too pop and tried to switch lanes and make club music like “We Still In This B”. Once he told his major label backers he didn’t want the pop lane anymore it was a wrap!
For people from the blog era, what happened to: The cool kids Pac div Fly U XV Fashawn Che Grand Theophilus London Tanya Morgan Kids in the hall Skeme U.N.I. Omen Actual Proof Warm Brew

I can’t believe i didn’t put him on the list but i had Nyck, CJ Fly and Dessy on it. I felt like he was finding a good balance on that project between the stuff he started with and the sound that hip-hop was obviously trending towards but i agree. Him and CJ Fly completely went trap but they still be rapping they asses off
I do wish they were all still in conversation more amongst underground rap fans. Me and my friends grew up on that shit during high-school. I still remember listening to B4DA$$ on release day!
Wale overcame (fake) DJ Wackademics disrespect for him and the entire DMV for years. Wale overcame getting dropped from Interscope after his debut album. They wanted to promote Wale as a Pop act at first because they couldn’t fully understand him or DC/DMV culture. He lead the MMG team when they first started. He helped Meek to create more female friendly records. He was the first sneaker head in Hip Hop’s blog era. He WRITES ALL his raps. He’s speak to women better than any of em aswell imo. He’s never had the financial backing like The other three MC’s either. Politics of the game has been holding him back aswell. Wale never get’s nominated for any BET, BET Hip Hop or Grammys. Even though his last two albums were great, maybe his best work. The game is the game. He’s highly regarded amongst his peers and real music lovers aswell. He know’s how to make a radio smash aswell. 💯💯💯
The thing with Chance is his downfall really didn’t have that much to do with music. Yes TBD was a lackluster album but what really catapulted the hate campaign was his over saturation in media (this guy was everywhere in 2016-18), him trying to get an MTV reporter fired for writing a negative article, and his over the top religion switch. I didn’t care about any of this but the tide turned slowly against Chance and he went from beloved to being waited for him to drop a disappointing project. Boy did those people get what they want. If Chance dropped The Big Day in 2016 or early 17, I don’t think it would’ve been as hated or detrimental to his career.

@@nikk796 Does he though? I mean, he only made one entire album about it and then he never mentioned it again. Probably did it to win an argument like when my wife says I don't do dishes enough so I wash every dish in the house like "Look at this shit! _Who_ don't do dishes?!" 😂
Man I wish Ace Hood would have kept his hype going. He had some 🔥 mixtapes and he had the mainstream appeal with pretty solid lyricism. I feel like he was kinda in the same lane as Meek Mill, but Meek just had better success.
@@ofthelion7 I think that's where some of the fall off happened. He was originally held to those same standards but never quite met them. I'm sure there were some other more pressing things that contributed to his fall off like just not releasing good music, but he had a moment. He had this one mixtape with the song "Still In This Bitch" with TI and 2 Chainz that was pretty big, but after that, I didn't hear much from him.
@bjenksful I'm with Rod. I never saw star power or longevity. He was a perfect fit for the era he came up in. But thats it. Late 00s early 2010s hip hop mainstream was super bland.
Low key on my way to work I was like damn I haven’t listen to BoB in a long time. Only because Tyler the creator yonkers came on, and I was listening to him till I got to work
This maybe doesn't count really but I was always and still am a huge fan of Vic Mensa. He completely lost momentum more than once. It's sad. Innanetape was right there with Acid Rap, his feature on Coco Butter Kisses. That was stage 1 then he disappeared but came back with There's A Lot Going On and was on Life of Pablo and U Mad with Kanye. And it was a comeback. Then he took a couple years again and put out his debut album which was good, it was solid, OMG with Pusha was a banger I liked the deep cuts too. Then he vanished again and the next time we saw him he was doing a song with G Eazy and it's been a decline since. Even though I still liked even 93punx and Dark Things and all that.
I like Vic's latest album. Then there's some stuff he put out a couple of years ago that's really good (it's a song with Eryn Allen Kane called Machiavelli that's dope). I think Vic is one of those artists who like to push boundaries with his art and take huge risks (that clearly don't really pay off). Though, as you alluded to, it's hard to keep holding people's attention when you frequently disappear and drop eclectic (to say the least) albums. I think he's talented, and I always preferred him over Chance. I think if he remains consistent, he can maintain a good level of fanfare. Unfortunately, I don't see him as being a huge artists per say, but he doesn't have to be. I do see him pop up in TV shows and stuff every now and again, so clearly some people in the industry still mess with him.
@bjenksful you're right about the risk taking for sure. He's really versatile. One of my favorite things about him.. Like I said he had the initial buzz even was on XXL then disappeared then was with Kanye during a great album run and both instances he could've been big. But him dissing XXXTENTACION really pissed people off and the Akademiks shit too. I do know that behind the scenes Vic does a lot for his community and so I'll always rock with him. I also appreciate that he's honest about his mistakes, for example domestic abuse. A lot of others in Hip Hop try to act like it never happened or somehow skate by like Big Pun for example who pistol whipped his woman or Dre. Vic owned up to it.
Whoever's idea it was to drop out the background music when something funny happens needs a raise.

Released an EP on the 8th of this month ironically.
great video
Rod was on one this episode 😂
Chance The Rapper loved his wife
He did mention that.
that's cool but did you know chance the rapper loves his wife??
@@nikk796 Does he though? I mean, he only made one entire album about it and then he never mentioned it again. Probably did it to win an argument like when my wife says I don't do dishes enough so I wash every dish in the house like "Look at this shit! _Who_ don't do dishes?!" 😂
😂😂See, this is why yall need Feefo because he probably would of told yall that Snow got with Daddy Yankee on that "Con Calma" and got the BAG$$ 💰 😂😂
From what I understand, Snow's first wife got cancer and he put his career on hold for her.
I typed in Snow Enforcer and the first thing that came up was an old white guy in shades on vlad tv😂😂😂
Danny Swain
This is a good one. I really liked him when he came out but I totally forgot about him

“The BBC, that thing was huge” is wild lol
B finna get us Alchemist and Jon Connor before Danglin Ballz debut…😑
The way B truly has the reach to make it happen 🤣🤣
Man I wish Ace Hood would have kept his hype going. He had some 🔥 mixtapes and he had the mainstream appeal with pretty solid lyricism. I feel like he was kinda in the same lane as Meek Mill, but Meek just had better success.
B.O.B was supposed to be in the same league as Lupe but 😢
Maybe in terms of sound but damn sure not skill
@@ofthelion7 I think that's where some of the fall off happened. He was originally held to those same standards but never quite met them. I'm sure there were some other more pressing things that contributed to his fall off like just not releasing good music, but he had a moment. He had this one mixtape with the song "Still In This Bitch" with TI and 2 Chainz that was pretty big, but after that, I didn't hear much from him.
@bjenksful I'm with Rod. I never saw star power or longevity. He was a perfect fit for the era he came up in. But thats it. Late 00s early 2010s hip hop mainstream was super bland.
chance needs to drop a great album his next release or else he'll really fall off. but his lil snippet releases shows he hasn't lost it.
What's the Chance song they're talking about that they reviewed?
BOB put out an album called Southmatic in 2019. It's straight raw raps!
I think Grandmaster Caz produced it too...
Chance missed his chance
Bid dum tss

BOB is literally named after the OutKast song, that's what he said.
Thought because his name was Bobby ray
@jjmccrary06 nah he was really influenced by Outkast
