Bon Iver performs the fourth track "Blue Tulip" from the new Okkervil River album The Stand Ins. Check out the Okkervil River channel for more Stand Ins videos. www.okkervilriver.com
Agreed! I could go for a studio cover release as well. Although I prefer Okkervil on a whole. Okkervil cover of some tracks on For Emma would be great!
This is such a gorgeous take on the song. I love it when one of my favorite musicians covers another one of my favorite musicians. If only Okkervil River would return the favor... ;-) (By the way, since it seems like most of the commenters here are Bon Iver fans rather than Okkervil River fans - check them out! Chances are if you like Bon Iver you'll like Okkervil too. Their albums Black Sheep Boy or The Stage Names are both excellent starting points.)
Agreed! Also, “Sleep and Wake-Up Songs” is the first thing of theirs I heard, it’s my favorite of theirs, and “A Favor” is my favorite song of theirs, that ep/album might be their closest to Bon Iver’s style.
First time i've heard this and must have just listened to it about 20 times on repeat now - absolute magic. Would love to be able to write this sort of stuff.
this is the most on point i've heard him sing yet. by all means hes always great... but this is spot on. every note. i'm not big on precision, but when you hear it like this.. its just great
I really likes his style of music. He bringsalong a warm feeling deep inside me. It feels me up with what i almost would compare with the satisfaction of love.
HUGE Okkervil River fan, and I love this video, cool as f**k. Bon Iver is really something great, Love the way he made it totally his own, the only way to remake a great song.
Excellent! EXACTLY what I am looking for! You are fully aware of its simplicity, and can find greatness in more than its sound! The emotional side of this guys work is pretty potent, and I'm sure it really does evoke a great love for many a listener. CSNY is the example I have been using as a comparison too! I feel that this guy can be the modern day Neil Young,if only he would team up with a few other artists and make a nice little folk band with 3p harmonies. Wouldn't that be awesome? lol
@FMECCTV he composed "For emma" completely by himself, bon iver was his stage name. He started playing with the other members on his first major tour! But i agree that people should realise that bon iver is now a group!
I loved Okkervil River for doing this album and having this "pre-release" with "Stage Names" playing... I wonder if Will knew that the band Bon Iver was destined for Grammy Awards? I also have a feeling when Justin was accepting the award and he thanked and extended his hand out to "all the non-nominees who've never been here and never will be here." I have a feeling Okkervil River is one such group, although he was nominated for liner notes last year.
i love his voice. he actually has a really deep voice so i can't figure out if he just has a really incredible range, or if he's always singing falcetto.
It is simply an issue because of how easily it is produced. In an age where music is as popular as ever, you would think that the level of music would become more sophisticated, but as time seems to go it becomes more simplistic and more people become blindly in love.
/Agree. Although I don't think any artist who "aims" to be successful ever becomes. Usually, its either ya got it or ya don't. Good music has to come from the heart, and the heart typically can't be drawn upon by those with such selfish ideals as "success."
I just want to hear every single song that Justin Vernon is involved with ❤ he gives me so much life
same! i am here for everything jv/bon iver.
I love the dude next to justin just casually reading a magazine and sippin' coffee
Sean Carey. His drummer.
Groovin' Not just "the drummer" but true! :)
Groovin' and main harmonizing vocalist.
I don't know who is drinking coffee and flipping through a magazine while Bon Iver is doing this, but HOW? I would just stare. Awe, awe, awe.
"and i've got my ear against the screen"
I LOVE BON IVER!!! his voice is like a northern wind through pines and snow and winter!!
Agreed! Are you also an Okkervil fan?
I can't stop listening to this version. Just incredible. I want to hear them play it live.
Agreed! I could go for a studio cover release as well. Although I prefer Okkervil on a whole. Okkervil cover of some tracks on For Emma would be great!
This is such a gorgeous take on the song. I love it when one of my favorite musicians covers another one of my favorite musicians. If only Okkervil River would return the favor... ;-)

And also check out The Stand Ins. The album this song is on.
Agreed! Also, “Sleep and Wake-Up Songs” is the first thing of theirs I heard, it’s my favorite of theirs, and “A Favor” is my favorite song of theirs, that ep/album might be their closest to Bon Iver’s style.
probably my favourite formation of BI. Sean, Mike, and Justin.

Keep working at it. It’ll come out of you. Have you heard the original?

Simple and beautiful!
this is the most on point i've heard him sing yet. by all means hes always great... but this is spot on. every note. i'm not big on precision, but when you hear it like this.. its just great
this is ridiculous. they never cease to amaze me with the originality of their covers.
No, I've seen Bon Iver live twice and they were with him both times and he introduced all of them as "Bon Iver"
yes amazing.
pure awesome
The lyrics fit so perfectly with the way he sings this. Just pure class. Ending is just gorgeous ^^
Yep. And hopefully it lead to more people discovering Okkervil. They aren’t as big as they would be if they were in more ears.
I really likes his style of music. He bringsalong a warm feeling deep inside me. It feels me up with what i almost would compare with the satisfaction of love.
I can't wait to see him next Sunday night. Hope he plays some new stuff....but whatever he plays, it's sure to be astounding.
this was excellent!!!
best stand-in by far. There's a reason this one has over four times the views of most the other ones.
That man plays that guitar like an angel.
so undescribably beautiful
It's currently 4.22am where i am. I can't go to sleep because i keep telling myself "...just one more time."

Bon Iver I love you.
I saw him at a local show here! He's amazing
Sean, Mikey, and Justin are the best trio there will ever be. Ever.
I strongly agree with your assessment as well as the total badassery used in its presentation.
Very nice
I totally agree with you dude. Holy shit I have been trying to work my point on that topic for weeks, glad to see someone else is on my side.
replay!!
HUGE Okkervil River fan, and I love this video, cool as f**k. Bon Iver is really something great, Love the way he made it totally his own, the only way to remake a great song.

Excellent!
EXACTLY what I am looking for!

mike is the freaking cutest thing ever :)
Trademark voice. Very good.

First and only album, at this point.
I fucking love this guy
Also agree.
Love your voice.
I didn't find the coffee-mag guy annoying. Seemed like a relaxed, good time because of it.
Beautiful!
i love his voice. he actually has a really deep voice so i can't figure out if he just has a really incredible range, or if he's always singing falcetto.
Beautiful performance on Letterman boys
Ride trough the heath, his music goes
I hate to say this, but I STRONGLY prefer this version.
@Neilonidas Im glad someone knows that. I was shocked to read some of these comments. Sean Carey even has his own solo album out now.
It is simply an issue because of how easily it is produced. In an age where music is as popular as ever, you would think that the level of music would become more sophisticated, but as time seems to go it becomes more simplistic and more people become blindly in love.
I love this,, and hu is the guy whit dark hair,, yummmy x
Listen to more Bon Iver.
How am I only just finding this
WOW... i never knew it was a cover!
@nathantrust
I know! It's great. I wish Mike would come out with solo stuff. His band in high school was amazing. That kid can write.
/Agree.
