I literally had some of these experiences as a regular, normal girl living my life. Just thinking back to when a man came up to me and asked if he could run his hands through my hair because he thought I was beautiful makes me want to barf!
But all of these examples are of people who already have pretty privilege, and financial privilege, and fame. You can’t consider ugly privilege to be “in” until people can gain financial privilege and fame without ever having pretty privilege. Being able to “turn off” your pretty privilege is an even bigger privilege not afforded to most.
I feel like ugly privilege only works in media. When you're "ugly" irl people will treat you differently than if you were pretty and all we can do is just don't give a shit about it🤷♀
PREACH. This only works when you are born conventionally pretty in the first place. People who are born and stay with “average” or “unfavorable/ugly” features are not given that luxury.
They’re not trying to be ugly, just unique. It’s like Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett have those elvish, ethereal features that look a little androgynous and otherworldly. That’s what they’re striving for since that’s unique and makes you stand out for acting roles.
I don't believe Dove Cameron or anyone else is trying to make herself look ugly. She made herself pretty enough to pull off looking edgy and still be popular. If she were genuinely ugly, the edgy look wouldn't be popular.
exactly, she's still widely famous for her looks, a lot of people wouldn't tune in if it weren't for her looks, that's pretty privilege. What she does with that attention that she got with her looks is up to her then. Pretty privilege can only get you so far but ugly takes you steps back.
I feel like "ugly privilege" doesn't work in real life, if you're not a celebrity. Sure, if you're already famous, it makes you stand out more if you have unique features. But in day-to-day life, people who are considered to be attractive will always be treated differently and have better chances in life than somebody who's "ugly".
I find it quite fascinating how different some people act if they're attracted to you vs if they're not. And that's the "ugly" privilege right here - you get to see people for who they are. I have no interest in being around people who treat others differently based on those kind of things. Because even if they do find you pretty and do act nice, the act has an expiration date and they have an agenda. They're not here to be a genuine friend or a good partner. Never.
@@shanouboubou I agree. As you say, that works for friends and partners. But every other interaction? I'm quite sure that pretty people can get a "better deal" for things with much less effort and are generally taken more serious than ugly people. I think going though life as an ugly person costs so much more (mental) energy. I'd say I'm pretty average looking and I'm okay with it. But honestly, I'm glad I'm not getting side-eyed or laught at or feel how people are repulsed by my looks. I don't wish that to anybody but unfortunately, I see it happen to people who are "ugly" more than I'd like.
It does.. Everyone just assumes that you "get everything" or "h03" or "pick me".. And everyone just hates you on the first meeting.. Not to mention "creeps", the harassment is crazy
Yeah I agree. Even the attractive people can hide their looks....Baggy and unflattering clothing, wearing a baseball hat, big sunglasses, not styling your hair etc.
I think we mistake the "ugly" with ugly. These women are still beautiful... flawless skin, beautiful teeth/hair/shape/makeup.. it is not the "REAL" ugly. We are still very far from accepting the normal appearance as beautiful.
yeah its still a heavily manufactured kind of "ugly" which chooses only a couple of features such as the eyebrows or hair to "uglify" and keep the rest up to standard
They aren't flawless. That is your warped perception of yourself projecting onto them to create an illusion. Most of them have bad skin and after all their surgies they likely have unnatural scarring under the skin that will surface when they get old.
it was so cringe!! omg! did that man really joke about her flirting with him? her co-star wanted none of it. and jimmy kimmel ought to be ashamed of himself. that was obscene!!!
@@alexnndder completely agree, they were so unprofessional. They NEED to lose their jobs. I would never let them interview another person again, let alone a beautiful woman!
To go from "pretty people are sometimes tired of consequences of being pretty such as being type casted or being viewed as just a pretty face" into "there is an ugly privilege" is such a huge leap and logical fallacy. There is no such thing as "ugly privilege". I think 99% of western population would take "struggles of being conventionally pretty" over "struggles of being conventionally ugly" in a heartbeat 😐
@@stephanielange I understand, but to call it an ugly privilege is a huge leap and just doesn't make sense. You do make an argument of choosing to not appeal to the male gaze. But that does not in any way equate to what we understand as conventionally ugly.
There's a big difference between "ugly" (basically perfect people tweaking a single thing on their faces) vs. actually ugly (will never be celebrated and won't be able to get by on their looks -period-).
Okay, hear me out: invisibility privilege. I'm very AVERAGE in my looks. If I put in a lot of effort with my grooming, makeup, and clothes, I can pull off "pretty." But I don't always want that kind of attention. Sometimes I just want to go to the grocery store without being talked to. So I'll just go in my natural state of "mid." Knowing when and how to turn on/off your pretty privilege is true power.
What we perceive as ugly appearance has more to do with functionalty and health of someones body. X-legs and overbite can be serious conditions whereas a bigger nose doesn't impact the ability to breathe.
@@baum7des7lebens7 but a lot of people will still see someone with a bigger nose as ugly (unfortunately). so no, it's not just an indication of functionality or health. it's societal.
I wouldn’t call it “ugly privilege”, it’s more that everyone who is considered “conventionally pretty” by todays standards looks so copy paste (mostly due to same surgeries/same beauty trends) that society’s pendulum is swinging back to craving more unique features that go outside of those set standards.
yeah being pretty is still 1000 times better than being ugly, there's just some areas where it isn't. I'll believe being ugly is better when hoardes of people go into debt to make themselves uglier like they do to make themselves prettier.
Yes that’s exactly it. Beauty used to be very individual and unique, now people all look the same thanks to procedures and surgeries, it’s become so attainable it’s no longer interesting. Bella Hadid would have never gotten into modeling without extensive plastic surgery.
This right here. Perfectly well said. You still need to be pretty to pull off an acceptable ugly that will still have people gazing. Every single person here that has become supposedly ugly are celebrities that aren't doing Kardashian type of makeup anymore. Step 1, be pretty. Step 2, don't be ugly
This is still pretty privilege because "pretty" people can make themselves look "ugly" if they want to. But if you are legitimately ugly to today's standards then you don't get to just make yourself look pretty.
There’s a quote I internalized in the 90s, because I went from ugly duckling kid to “pretty” at about 13. Brad Pitt did an interview around 1995 and he said “good looks get you through the door, but they won’t keep you in the room.” I realized I had to find a reason to be kept in the room, and cultivated a personality, interests and my intelligence. Yes, Pretty Privilege is real, it is absolutely an unfair advantage that can be leveraged. Whether people think I’m attractive or not will change and fade, but being interesting will serve me for my entire life.
@@katemiller7874 as someone who was hypersexualized at puberty by so many men, I concur. I’m still unpacking all the lessons I learned about “not attracting unwanted attention” which has messed with my adult view of my role in intimacy.
I feel strange about deciding to look different being equated with being ugly. None of the people shown in the video actually look unappealing, but if I tried to replicate their looks I certainly would. This take feels like it only works for celebrities, who are generally quite attractive to begin with.
And now she freaks out about being on camera without nose contour, she's not well. She thinks her nose is too big. She'll end up looking like a plastic surgery experiment.
I still think the problem with society is that people will always focus on your looks- pretty or ugly- first. I think we need to see be more indifferent or "body neutral " and go straight to being interested in personality, skills, talents, or kindness .
While I agree I don't think it will happen soon. We depend on our eyesight to steer us in life so I would argue that we'll always go after what we find pleasing. People who are blind probably go after voices they find pleasing first, I'd imagine. I'm below average in looks and I 100% believe that, while looks don't matter ultimately in relationships, they do matter in the beginning. You have to be somewhat attracted to your partner.
@@13lilsykos I was thinking in more of the sense of general treatment. People get brushed aside so easily because they're not pretty or "unique". (This has been my personal experience). I feel like there are cases where you find someone who is "below average attractive" , but when you get to know them and spend time you'll find something attractive looking about them. I read that the more you see of something the more accepting you start to be of it. But in the long term , yes I do agree physical attraction is a factor, but shouldn't be the main one.
@@PinkSwiftPenguin - 100% agree. I dated a guy for 6 years. At first he was great then slowly but surely he became emotionally and mentally abusive. It wasn't until he left me from another woman that I realized I never found him physically attractive. 😂🤦🏻♀️ I guess because I'm below average in looks and crippled, I've always known that I've got to have something more to offer than a pretty face or a big bum.
The silence around Women’s Magic Truths is unbelievable. This book reveals powerful techniques, yet people remain unaware. Don't miss out - discover what everyone's ignoring!
All those actresses are very beautiful, got called brave, and went back to amazing beauty. Noticed Hollywood did not just cast an ugly woman with great talent and got her to stardom. If you are really ugly, it's never your time to shine. If you are beautiful, now is your time to cosplay as ugly and be called brave!
Oh I def agree with you here. My thought was the first time I saw Sydney Sweeney. The Handmaid's Tale with brown hair, no makeup, those frumpy outfits. They made her look normal. Then I saw her next in Euphoria...and well... We all know how she looks there. Gorgeous, blonde, big boobs... Like she looks now.
@@cwired9407yes, they’ll be praised for looking different. They can make themselves a little bit “uglier” and they’ll be praised. While “ugly” people already look the way they want to, but still aren’t getting much from the society. It’s so hypocritical and that’s what makes me really angry. But of course I get not wanting to be a sex symbol anymore.
It's a shame that instead of uglifying a pretty girl to play a plain or ugly girl, that they didn't just audition some actual plain, but unique and talented girls. They could be missing some excellent talent that are unique looking.
Wow.. the throw backs with Megan! That would not fly now. She was legit sexually harassed in “professional” interviews with the camera rolling. Think about what she went through when they were off smh
Honestly I’ve noticed a trend with the pretty or ugly privileges. Most of the time the only reason these people are ugly because they aren’t dolled up or have slightly different features etc. but in reality they are still pretty. The only people who actually benefit are the pretty people. The people who can be just ugly enough to be relatable but who can still get pretty to get ahead.
Is Madison Beer's problem really her good looks? Or is it her average talent and repertoire? Whitney Houston was ridiculously beautiful, and it didn't stop her from blowing up. Because she was also ridiculously talented.
She also slept her way to the top, it's a lot harder to be taken serious then. She did get there in the end though. I believe a film called misfits was the one that gave her the first critical acclaim.
@@dollinterrupted It's abhorrent she used her body to get a leg up, just like it's abhorrent that she felt she had to. Every single woman in that industry is faced with a choice when faced with someone inappropriately propositioning them. Walk away or sell your soul. If you sell your soul, don't be surprised when it comes back to bite you in the ass. The option to speak up has always been there too.. But nah, it's more important to become a "star", even if you end up overdosing at 35 due to mental health issues.......
I wondered the same thing! How was this allowed, over and over? Did they suffer no repercussions for being such creepy weirdos? That Jimmy Kimmel one was really upsetting. Can you imagine someone showing you a sketch like that when you're supposed to be in an interview and keeping your poise? I felt really bad for her, didn't realize she'd been treated this way.
They felt comfortable, because she is viewed as a sex object and, therefore, the public and interviewers think it’s fair game to treat her that way. She meets the beauty standard to fulfill the male gaze, so she is viewed an an object, particularly by men, rather than the whole human being that she is. This is similar to why Playboy bunnies were so frequently sexually assaulted 😔
Ugh those Megan Fox interviews almost made me throw up, especially that guy who drew her and himself "kissing" disgusting, why can't they behave like normal people?
Sexual harassment! I the think the picture with the bed and the ask for a kiss is the same level and should be sued! This men need to loose their jobs!
Tell me you don't understand pretty privilege without telling me you don't understand pretty privilege... It means that you get better treatment in your daily life than your "uglier" counterparts. Stars embracing more "unique" features only further underlines pretty privilege. It's their stardom and their established "prettiness" that allows them to now eschew the norms without facing retribution. And it's not just about men, it's about how your coworkers, your boss, the shopkeeper, etc. treat you. About being offered help and kindness unprompted. About being treated more like a human than someone with acne, overweight, or hair loss might be treated.
all of these girls were skinny and pretty before they started looking more “edgy”, that in itself is pretty privilege, when you’re skinny and pretty you can express yourself in ways that other people couldn’t without major ridicule
i just look 50% like my mom and 50% like my dad. Of course i wished i looked like Priyanka Chopra, but the truth is, Priyanka Chopra doesn't even look like Priyanka Chopra.
I am 44. I am truly grateful that I grew up in the 80s and 90s. This era has the kind of self image challenges that are really difficult to digest and deeply saddening at its core. We are so easily influenced by the flux of social media much more than my era where we were influenced by magazines and media but on a much slower level - slow enough that your core values and sense of self worth could overrride message. Perhaps we still had nuclear families then with a stay at home parent that helped you with your identity and roots. I know it seems old fashioned to some - but I wish you ladies strength in navigating these times.
I felt so bad for her! Those interviewers were completely out of line. I would have gone home and cried tears of rage and heartbreak because of course you always want interviews to give you some kind of a voice or promote something you're proud of, and instead she was demeaned and ogled.
"Beauty is, in some way, boring. Even if its concept changes through the ages… a beautiful object must always follow certain rules. A beautiful nose shouldn’t be longer than that or shorter than that, on the contrary, an ugly nose can be as long as the one of Pinocchio, or as big as the trunk of an elephant, or like the beak of an eagle, and so ugliness is unpredictable, and offers an infinite range of possibility. Beauty is finite, ugliness is infinite like God." -Umberto Eco, On Ugliness
Ugliness is much more boring and depressing. It's unpleasant to look at. Sure it would be boring if everyone was beautiful, but if everyone was ugly that would obviously be a great deal worse. Humans care about beauty and always will, we like to see nice things.
@@Vaquix000Speak for yourself, I'd much rather be around ugly interesting people than pretty boring people. It's far better to invest in what makes you original and unique than what makes you universally palatable
I get your point but none of these people are ugly. Looking different ≠ ugly. None of these looks are what ugly actually looks like. This is not ugly privilege
Literally uncomfortable hearing everything people said to Megan Fox cause I've heard versions of those said to me my whole life uggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh 😬😬😬😖
@abeautifullittlefool1758 no offense but i doubt you're on the same level as Megan fox and if you are you're the one creating your image that is perceived by other people
I'm never going to try to make myself ugly. But I'm never going to alter myself to fit these weird naturally unnatainable beauty standards either. I focus on being MY kind of beautiful. Not societies kind. I have the kind of looks that would have been seen as flawless in the 1950s, like Marilyn Monroe or Jayne Mansfield, and I like it that way. I think most other people are like that too. They neither want to uglify themselves or turn themselves into brats dolls. They just want to be true to themselves and not be attacked for it.
no, f this. the same people who helped create, perpetuate, and push the mind boggling unrealistic beauty standards and alread fit them to a t, are now adding one flaw to be “ugly” and calling it a day. if i, a woman ugly by today’s beauty standards, did any of that, it would just be “ew gross” instead of “brave and creative”. it’s not “normalising being ugly” but a subtle flex: “i am so beautiful, i can look beautiful even with (insert manufactured imperfection here)”. f ‘em.
Say it louder babes, you are utterly spot fu*king on with your comment!! In my opinion, It seems to be when the "pretty" girls start to fade into irrelevance they pop back up looking "ugly" so that their name stays "out there and relevant". Nothing more than a flex!!
Use it to your advantage. Now that the pretty girls are making themselves look ugly, you can make yourself look pretty and be able to compete with them!
pretty people are so easy to see now with tiktok and such that theres a bit if an oversaturation of unobtainable, rare (?) cookie cutter beauty that people just dont relate to
To all the young woman out there...... Pretty privilege is amazing, until you get older. If you've been a pretty face your whole life it's terrifying to age. Be MORE than just a pretty face. Life will be better.
Gaga wasn't considered attractive so she had to get attention in other ways. It wasn't as if she didn't want to be considered attractive in the first place though.
@@kyrak.4143 Who doesn't. Pple treat you better and are nicer initially. It doesn't necessarily last long but as pple also msy resent you for it and may even spite you and be jealous. But it makes for much more pleasant first impressions and pple smile and you a lot more.
The message I got was to just be yourself. Don’t alter things for a man, or the beauty standards, or because of what people say about you/to you. Wear things that make you feel comfortable and confident. Do your hair and makeup in a way that brings you joy.
Yeah no. This is still well and good if you're average, but if you're actually ugly (bad acne, poor bone structure, small close-set eyes, high hairline, frizzy hair, etc) you're not being celebrated. If you have good skin, normal and up cheekbones, a thin body shape, you can afford to be "ugly" with makeup or clothes. No one with cystic acne is being celebrated on social media without six layers of makeup. This is very much, in its own way, a luxury.
Cystic acne doesn’t make you ugly any more than having any other medical issue does. Having suffered from acne myself for years (I ended up on accutane TWICE as a result) I know how much it can effect your confidence, but it doesn’t actually make you ugly. It’s the beauty standards that have made you feel that way.
Stephanie I want to thank you. Due to some health issues (and the aftermath of a longterm shite relationship)my self confidence was gutted. I have found myself lately, whenever I start to criticize something about myself, I hear you in my head telling me to "don't be so bloody thick, YOU are gorgeous and I love your guts". Thank you ❤
Omg, I just love your videos. I hit subscribed about a year ago and you always deliver the best arguments on beauty standards. You have definitely helped my self esteem as a mid-aged woman. The feeling to adhere to beauty standards doesn't just affect young girls it definitely affects the women approaching 40, like me. I feel I can't compete anymore and watching this video reminded me that I don't have to compete and I can embrace getting old. Thank you Stephanie! I fully support and love your content!!!!!
If you want ‘odd, unique, ugly’ look at Björk … She was called ugly, plain, dull and one reporter even said she looks like she had ‘downs’ But she’s so ridiculously talented and skilled at music and song writing, her fame rocketed and her true talent shone through 🎵🎶🎵🖤
Had no idea people called her ugly, she is typically attractive with symmetric features, looks feminine, young, etc. Her "Asian eyes" make her stand out, but it's not that strange in Northern Europe.
Funny, most people consider me pretty and I was a childmodel, but the celebrity I look the most like is Bjork because we have similar mannerism and both have that youthful, doll-like look to us that has nothing to do with barbie dolls. I got compared to her often back when I took ceramic classes XD
Monica Bellucci used to get bullied in her youth and people automatically assumed that because she was so pretty, that she must be unintelligent and untalented. People in the media industry typecasted her as the “sexy girl”. In fact, her ex-husband, before they were married, used to cause drama with her on movie sets because she was “too pretty” and thought very lowly of her because of it. (They ended up marrying later because of this constant rivalry and eventually they grew to respect each other). Bellucci did a movie about the objectification of beauty and the downside of being abused because of it called “Malena”. The woman in the film, played by Bellucci, is abused by all the townspeople, the women become jealous and vilify her because of it. (The women gossip and say she is a slUt because of it, she gets r@ped because of a man’s unwanted advances, and the whole town ends up physically beating her and shaving her head). People assume women that are beautiful have a charmed life. Not always true. Many get creepy stalkers, people constantly objectifying them and only liking them for their looks (rather than for who they are. They are only ever objectified and seen as a trophy to be won and owned. Like a real life Barbie doll to be played with and discarded the moment they no longer serve the purpose of the person that want to “own” or “play with” her. She’s never taken seriously. She’s only seen as an object rather than a human being that has their own interests/desires/needs/wants/identity.
this is the comment i was looking for. you are there as a status symbol or a prize to be won if you're around men, or you're seen as a bitch/threat to girls.
That's where self esteem counts. My friend of 30 years was always and still is very beautiful. She was always dignified and never let anyone use her. Never promiscuous and has been married for over 20 years now. As long as you value yourself you will not draw in people who don't value you as a person.
This doesn't and won't apply to regular people in the world. She used all celebrities to prove her point. Celebrities and regular people live in two different worlds. Trying to make yourself ugly in the regular world won't do anybody well. Ugly privilege is not a thing for regular people.
Her generation has easier access to getting work done and it aging them.. if they waited until til their 30s and up it wouldn’t look that way. It’s meant for aging people not young.
You can be ugly but you got to be skinny or people don’t respect you. When you’re ugly pretty you can get hired as a model. I think this has been around for a long time but it swings back to the forefront of public consciousness now and then.
I've actively been dressing in a certain way to avoid the male gaze for years (I fit the conventional beauty standard). A friend of my boyfriend asked him at a party we attended together, if I NEEDED to dress this way, suggesting something might be 'wrong' with my body, so that I 'had' to cover up. I was speechless when he told me about it later. It says so much about how men see woman. Even when you are not showing anything, it's still mostly about your body for men.

My daughter is 10 and I am 35. She is so obsessed with beauty and perfection that it started to trigger me and make me insecure about my appearance. Your videos have helped me so much to realise my aging is a privilege and because of that I can guide my daughter. She’s beautiful exactly how she is. We all are. Genuinely thank you for making these videos. They are really so important. I am a nineteen yr old woman now, and my mom was always and still is the most beautiful woman to me
Get her into non-beauty focused type of hobbies such as painting. It will redirect her focus to something outside herself and build her self esteem in creativity instead of her looks.
Yeah we take her to play hockey every week and she loves painting as do I. It does help doing those things but it’s a slow process. I 100% agree though
This generation’s pursuit of “perfection” is our biggest downfall. Dont people know that the most beautiful things aren’t perfect.. nature isnt perfect yet no man made structures even come close to its beauty. Its so nice to look at my face and see the face of previous generations and more generations to come.. one of my biggest flexes about my looks is that i look like my great gran and i never even met her.. thats freaking beautiful
The pursuit of "perfection" doesn't make sense to me as not everyone has the same idea of what perfection even looks like. For example Demi Lovato posted a picture of her pinching her stomach a little bit, saying she wasn't "perfect"... what? That's NORMAL to be able to pinch a roll of skin. Apparently if you're not underweight and sickly or basically a bodybuilder with a solid six pack you're not perfect. It's insanity.
I like the comparison between nature and man made structures. I'd never seen it that way, but it makes so much sense. Thank you a lot for your comment.
I don’t think anyone is trying to look ugly. I think they all want to be beautiful and powerful as always in Hollywood. Some actresses took those roles so people can can see that they can act, but beauty standards are becoming more impossible. I don’t see this ugly trend anywhere.
Ewwww those Megan Fox clips, anybody can tell how uncomfortable she looked with being asked the same freaking questions about being pretty, I feel so bad for her, she's a very good actress.
Let's be clear. None of these actresses that you mentioned (Margot or Charlize) would never make to where they are if they weren't beautiful in the first place. Ugly privilege is reserved for beautiful women only.
I've personally met people who are "Instagram famous" or at least very popular on there. They do not look the same in person as they do online. A lot of them use filters, and some of them have gotten work done. I have a relative who is "Insta popular" and her face looks terrible in person. She got lip filler and had a nose job on her already slim nose. The times that ive seen her in person, she tries to hide her face (seriously) because she knows that everyone sees her online persona and her irl. She filters her body online because she's naturally slim, and doesn't have many curves to flaunt. Im in no way "shaming" her or anyone, but I would hope that grown adults would come to recognize reality and know that most people online are totally fake and don't seem to have an issue with faking their appearance too. Also, I have a really hard time understanding the obsession with Madison Beer, shes frequently mentioned in videos/conversations like this one because apparently she's otherworldly beautiful, but personally i don't see it. She looks very, very standard to what is popular today in terms of looks and ive even seen her being compared to Megan Fox which is wild, lol. Megan Fox was/is definitely otherworldly beautiful, but MB? I don't get it, lol.
The whole sexualization of women in any and every scenario is so heart breaking. I just want to exist without having my self worth correlating to my looks. Megan Fox is a great and sad example of this and you can see her sad eyes in those interviews. Makes me sick that women have altered themselves and unfortunately enhancing this already huge issue. Ultimately we should be able to do whatever we want without this backlash but society isn't wired that way.
As a girl who grew up in the south in the USA and was raised to be a pretty little show pony type… I’ve spent most of my late twenties and thirties getting muscular/strong and tattoos. I want to literally intimidate most men now, but when I was younger, I was desperate for approval/attention from them. It’s been very fascinating and I appreciate you making a video about it - I didn’t realize how prevalent the turn away from the male gaze was becoming.
Can we also talk about how women's looks are attacked both sides? If we don't appeal to the male gaze, men make fun of us calling us creeps and stupid but if we look good, women become mean to us.
4:33 I remember watching Madison on Celebrity Drag Race a few years ago. She came across as so self-obsessed that it was very off putting. It was meant to be a fun charity special but my impression was that she felt that she was entitled to do well because she is beautiful. What I love about drag is how even those with unconventional looks can use makeup to enhance or exaggerate their features but also that looks are not the main reason that drag stars are made. Personality, humour, talent, confidence, wit - that’s what my favourite drag stars have. Madison missed the mark and I instantly lost interest in anything to do with her.

I don't believe Dove Cameron or anyone else is trying to make herself look ugly. She made herself pretty enough to pull off looking edgy and still be popular. If she were genuinely ugly, the edgy look wouldn't be popular.
Exactly
She was pretty average to begin with but now she looks horrible shouldn't have gone under the knife,
exactly, she's still widely famous for her looks, a lot of people wouldn't tune in if it weren't for her looks, that's pretty privilege. What she does with that attention that she got with her looks is up to her then. Pretty privilege can only get you so far but ugly takes you steps back.
completely agree
i agree
Never.
@@shanouboubou yep, it was truly a blessing; it weeded out assholes

I'd say I'm pretty average looking and I'm okay with it. But honestly, I'm glad I'm not getting side-eyed or laught at or feel how people are repulsed by my looks. I don't wish that to anybody but unfortunately, I see it happen to people who are "ugly" more than I'd like.
It does.. Everyone just assumes that you "get everything" or "h03" or "pick me".. And everyone just hates you on the first meeting.. Not to mention "creeps", the harassment is crazy

Yeah, another made up weird word. It'll go away by the next fashion cycle.
I think we mistake the "ugly" with ugly. These women are still beautiful... flawless skin, beautiful teeth/hair/shape/makeup.. it is not the "REAL" ugly. We are still very far from accepting the normal appearance as beautiful.

Absolutely agree, there’s a point where physical beauty loses its appeal. But inner beauty? That’s forever 💖
While I agree I don't think it will happen soon. We depend on our eyesight to steer us in life so I would argue that we'll always go after what we find pleasing. People who are blind probably go after voices they find pleasing first, I'd imagine.
I wonder if beauty's intelligence is devalued as it makes it easier to objectify and dehumanize? If so, that is a sickening thought.
this is the comment i was looking for. you are there as a status symbol or a prize to be won if you're around men, or you're seen as a bitch/threat to girls.
That's where self esteem counts. My friend of 30 years was always and still is very beautiful. She was always dignified and never let anyone use her. Never promiscuous and has been married for over 20 years now.
As long as you value yourself you will not draw in people who don't value you as a person.
All true except that Monica Bellucci IS...uh...eh...not smart. But it has nothing to do with her beauty.
This doesn't and won't apply to regular people in the world. She used all celebrities to prove her point. Celebrities and regular people live in two different worlds. Trying to make yourself ugly in the regular world won't do anybody well. Ugly privilege is not a thing for regular people.
Kylie Jenner is only 26 years old? Omg, she's given away her youthful look with so much work on her.
Totally
Ironically when she was 16 she wanted to look 25. Of course 16 year olds shouldn't be making those decisions because now she's 25 and looks 45.
Yeah, filler can really make you look older if it's overdone.
Choosing to be „ugly“ is a fucking privilege
I've actively been dressing in a certain way to avoid the male gaze for years (I fit the conventional beauty standard). A friend of my boyfriend asked him at a party we attended together, if I NEEDED to dress this way, suggesting something might be 'wrong' with my body, so that I 'had' to cover up. I was speechless when he told me about it later. It says so much about how men see woman. Even when you are not showing anything, it's still mostly about your body for men.
Damn I always get taken aback by how well the make up looked in Monster. Charlize looks just like Aileen Wuornos and it's terrifying.
I know it’s wild!!! I don’t follow Hollywood celebrities a lot and literally I didn’t realize who it was for a good 6 years lol. I was shocked when I realized who it was
Absolutely love Charlize! She’s so damn cool.
no shade but mia goth wouldve been another option o play that role since she looks so much alike to aileen already. but charlize did wonderful job tho
@@yosifadillah Mia Goth would have been a child when the film came out but I definitely see her as Aileen if she was older, same with maybe Maya Hawk would give it a good go too.
I’m so sorry for all of this . I’m an older woman , never had surgery, grew up in the gorgeous sixties , took care of my looks and am very happy with my natural appearance.
I know this comment will likely get lost but i mean this when i say from watching these videos my mindest is changing slowly. As long as im happy I am beautiful and worthy. ❤️❤️❤️
it's a normal phase for every tween/teenage girl but don't worry she will grow out of it as she grows up. Just be there for her and remind her how much you love her and that she is beautiful.❤God bless you , and you are beautiful. There is nobody more beautiful to a daughter than her mom. I am a nineteen yr old woman now, and my mom was always and still is the most beautiful woman to me
Thank you this message is lovely. I still look at my mum who is in her 50s (she’s a young granny 😂) and think she is stunningly beautiful
Not trying to be that person, but if she’s on tiktok i’d be worried. Hopefully she isn’t tho
Eww, that Kimmel clip was HORRIFYING! Poor Megan. 😢
I never liked him to begin with. He's so fucking creepy...
Exactly like what
it is cancel-able honestly
The way those interviewers spoke to Megan Fox was rank 🤢
This generation’s pursuit of “perfection” is our biggest downfall. Dont people know that the most beautiful things aren’t perfect.. nature isnt perfect yet no man made structures even come close to its beauty. Its so nice to look at my face and see the face of previous generations and more generations to come.. one of my biggest flexes about my looks is that i look like my great gran and i never even met her.. thats freaking beautiful
Love this
The pursuit of "perfection" doesn't make sense to me as not everyone has the same idea of what perfection even looks like.
MaN maDE
It always catches me off guard when I hear people use phrases like that in 2024. Just say human made lol.
@@dollinterrupted Man means human of either sex
I feel so bad for Megan Fox. Jeeze.
I don’t think anyone is trying to look ugly. I think they all want to be beautiful and powerful as always in Hollywood. Some actresses took those roles so people can can see that they can act, but beauty standards are becoming more impossible. I don’t see this ugly trend anywhere.
the idea of ugly women being taken seriously or not being judged just for appearence is wild
That‘s so sad for the girl
In my opinion Madison is way prettier than Megan Fox has ever been...Megan is a total fake anyway and I've never got the hype about her...
@rebekkagasmi9451 Madison has definitely had work done too. A lot of what is popular today, like lip filler and upturned nose.
Are you prettier than her?
The whole sexualization of women in any and every scenario is so heart breaking. I just want to exist without having my self worth correlating to my looks. Megan Fox is a great and sad example of this and you can see her sad eyes in those interviews.
Makes me sick that women have altered themselves and unfortunately enhancing this already huge issue. Ultimately we should be able to do whatever we want without this backlash but society isn't wired that way.
ok but why is this so encouraging?? I forgot the word but this actually helped my self esteem
As a girl who grew up in the south in the USA and was raised to be a pretty little show pony type… I’ve spent most of my late twenties and thirties getting muscular/strong and tattoos. I want to literally intimidate most men now, but when I was younger, I was desperate for approval/attention from them. It’s been very fascinating and I appreciate you making a video about it - I didn’t realize how prevalent the turn away from the male gaze was becoming.
why do you want to intimate men now? Im genuinely asking, because recently I want to have a stronger body & feel stronger
You know, neither attitude is healthy.
Can we also talk about how women's looks are attacked both sides? If we don't appeal to the male gaze, men make fun of us calling us creeps and stupid but if we look good, women become mean to us.
This.
Haven't you seen how guys treat Megan? She is so pretty they do not treat her as human and want to humble her constantly :/
it is INSANE how we keep shapeshifting, sometimes not even when we want to. WHEN CAN WE JUST LIVE AND LET LIVE OMG!!!!!!!
If that’s ugly what am I💀💀💀
Human.
One of a kind, queen 😊
Unique 🎉
From the top comment above, "A natural state of mid."
Beauty is toxic enough to destroy women's uniqueness and their identity.
my parents told me im ugly af yesterday, i REALLY needed this video. thank u steph
Damn abusive much??(your parents not you pookie)
@@Definitelynotabot4 they do have their moments yeah 💀
Tell them you got their genes💀
This is one of the best videos I’ve seen on the internet this year, bravo!
