I have to warn people who might be thinking of buying a new 4Runner. Make sure you get as many options as possible and get the exact color that you want because you will be driving your new 4Runner for decades - literally. Back in 2004 I bought a new Lunar Silver 4Runner Sport. After 17 years of trouble-free ownership, it now has 150,000 miles. It still runs and looks great. The only problem is that I can't find any excuses to buy anything else. My only hope is to try and convince my wife to let me get another new 4Runner someday.
T J ,Just bought the 2021 4RUNNER LIMITED IN BLIZZARD PEARL, in sand beige interior with the third row seat. Saratoga Springs NY New Country Toyota. Wife loves it! thanks for all your videos. Happy Holidays!
Curious, in California its required to have front license plate. Would they drill thru that nice looking black chrome bumper to attach it? Where would they place the front license plate?🤔
Love the 4Runner, and I love that they stick to its timeless look. However, I wish the mid-row seats came with more options-such as captain seats or 50/50 folding. Also wish they would bring a V8 back into the mix…the V6 feels a little too weak for me, but it’s not a dealbreaker
Great video! 4runners are the best! I currently have a black '19 trd pro that I did a 3 yr lease on that ends december of '21. I may buy it or pick up a new '22 trd pro if they redesign it..
Mannn... We've been thinking about getting 2021 4Runner Limited until you mentioned that it does not have blind spot monitoring system. I wanted to get it for my wife for driving the kids around and for our family road trips. Our previous two vehicles (Hyundai Santa Fe XL, Toyota Highlander) had blind spot monitoring systems and power lift gates. Missing those options may not serve me well to convince my wife. I think, we're gonna go with a Highlander for those reasons. Although for my personal use I would definitely go with 4Runner if I didn't already have my Tacoma Off-Road. 😁
Not feeling the black letters, that is an easy look anyone can do by removing the metallic silver off the plastic emblem....it also only looks good on white paint. Other than that the name plate gets lost in the paint and you cant see it well.
The Toyota website shows the 4runner having LED fog lights, but some dealers show an additional "High Performance LED Fog Light" package for about $169 dollars. I don't see anything about it on the website. Does it have any real value? Thanks.
Taylor Matlock I can all but guarantee that the 6th/7th Gen will be electrified (Start/Stop, Hybrid, Plug in Hybrid, and eventually all electric). It may be gas at first, but the hybrid will come soon after.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q I have a 2001 4 Runner and want to get a new one because I’m having more problems with mine as it is pretty old now. I just wish the gas mileage was better or I could completely justify getting a new one. What year do you think we could see a more fuel efficient 4Runner?
Being very nice and objective...the OEM JBL speakers themselves sound very bad. The 2.5" and 6.5" speakers all have plastic tweeters, paper woofers with a very limited amount of travel, and the 6x9" speakers have poly woofer w/o any tweeter and very limited travel for bass, I haven't seen the subwoofer in person yet, but I can tell it's trying to do more than it's allowed. Except for the sub, all are easily replaceable (with patient and careful hands) with low cost JBL Club speakers, which all have poly woofers, silk tweeters and rubber surrounds. It's important to stick with JBL or Infinity since the factory JBl speakers are 2 ohm, and their aftermarket options are 2 to 3 ohm. After the speakers are replaced, the stock JBL stereo really wakes up and sounds surprisingly very good, and will sound plenty loud for most people. I actually need to add some additional sound deadening to the doors now. The touchscreen head unit with CarPlay is very very nice.
@@mattb9664 thank you for taking the time to reply. I am waiting for my 2021 limited with 15 jbl "premium" system. I don't know how good or bad that is. Which speakers do you recommend?
Nimaai108 Sure thing, and you'll love that 2021 Limited! As a starting point, I can easily recommend the JBL Club 3.5" coaxes in the dash, but the stock 2.5" brackets will need slightly bent/formed to fit. The Club line uses silk dome tweeters, which are always smooth and clear at all volumes, and they sound good. For 6x9" in the front door, I went with the earlier gen JBL GX (which are only $60 instead of $130 to $220) since doors are crossed over only for bass to mid bass, and an aftermarket tweeter doesn't matter. In the tailgate, I reused the earlier gen 6.5" Infinity Kappa's I had in my Tacoma rear doors, which match fine with JBL (it's all Harmon equipment). I'm planning on going with 6.5" JBL Club SQ in the rear doors. JBL and Infinity car audio lines are 2 ohm to 3 ohm impedance, so they will pull just about the same power as the stock speakers which are 2 ohm. I'm still undecided on the sub due to not fully knowing the box parameters and clearance limits (and I'm also not ready to temporarily tear apart the Japan installation quality of that 3rd row yet just to replace the sub) - lots of sub options though all under $100. These are all at least 92 dB sensitivity and high efficiency, and the stock power is fine in this case. What sucks overall is the stock JBL speakers are actually high quality parts, but they are just terribly designed in terms of their ability to clearly play music.
@@mattb9664 thanks for taking your time to reply, I really appreciate it. I am pretty sure the 4 runner 6x9s are 4ohm. And that's whats recommend by Crutchfield. I was looking into the rockford fosgate punch series. And are you recommending that I change the dash tweeters with 3.5 speakers? I will definitely look at the JBL club series. My first choice is Rockford Fosgate 2nd is JBL.
@@nimai0108 The Crutchfield fitment is dated and not accurate for the 2014-2021 4Runner (still love Crutchfield though). 3.5" dash speakers will fit to stock 2.5" brackets, they will need bent and formed a little. I had to trial-fit both speakers until they fit, and I didn't trim anything. The Metra speaker harness (for dash speakers) will need its pins extracted with needle nose pliers, and the pins will need plugged into the stock harness individually (believe the outer socket is + and inner socket is - , the other positions have no wires). Insulate with tape and heat shrink as needed. I've replaced the 6x9s- and now the tailgate 6.5s (really pathetic speaker materials with good build) . I measured each stock speaker at 2-3 ohm. A normal 4 ohm car speaker will player stiffer and quieter without an amp on stock power. JBL and Infinity are 2 to 3 ohms and the only speakers I'd recommend for improvement without adding an additional amp. My go-to brand personally is JL Audio (I have C5s sitting in a box again), but JBL/Infinity are the only choices in Toyota's if an amp isnt being added. Luckily the aftermarket JBL and Infinity speakers sound really comparable to JL.
i had a total of six 4Runners ranging from 1987-2005, the 2005 made me lose faith in them. It had the X-REAS system which completely failed at 80,000 miles. It cost a fortune to replace, so I swapped it out with Bilsteins . It had a lot of other problems, things that should never had occurred at such low mileage. I was the second owner and the original owner had all the maintenance done at a Toyota dealership. The 4th gens were definitely the worst, I'd probably buy a 5th gen, but for now I'm happy with my Venza!
Still it doesn't bring power lift gate on the back added to the keys. All the money you pay for it and cant just add that extra. Its a great vehicle but 2018,2019,20; limited model bring almost nothing diferent just a few extras here and there.5000 lbs maybe a 20ft to 21ft boat you must add passengers weight, boat gas,and water.Great vehicle overall.Comsumes lots of gas, it is a heavy and safe SUV.
Whats changed....... Absolutely nothing. Same motor, same trans. I think Apple car play with a $50k price tag. No thanks. Get yourself a ‘18 slap in an updated headunit and call it a ‘21 and save yourself 20k
I paid $36,000 for my 2004 4Runner Sport (with the bulletproof 4.7-liter V8). My friends said I was crazy to spend that much on a vehicle - but I'm still driving it every day.

Would be very nice in black for sure

do 4runner vs highlander third row comparison
Enjoy your reviews! 4Runner is a great SUV! It needs a power liftgate. It would be good if there is an option for captains seats in the back.
Anyone have the part number for the rims?
I have a 22 4Runner Limited and want to buy a set of the black alloy rims.
I want a 4runner so bad but stuck on woundering how much would it cost to upgrade seats on a 2019 TRD would cost 🤔
so I have the same vehicle in a 2020. Does that mean Toyota will offer the light kit as an aftermarket upgrade?
😂🥸 your reaction with remote start.. epic!
I love your Toyota 4runner best Suv awsome ride
I just want those tires to be wider. Look thin for the size of the car.
"Put it in your pipe and smoke it"? LOL that explains everything again!

It does, bubba

Looks sharp Jeff. Will this be replacing your Camry lease?
Very sharp Eric! Probably not as I’ve eliminated 4Runner from my choices. Down to 2021 Venza or Camry or Avalon or Highlander.

The only thing that ruins the pearl on the 4Runner for me is that you can easily see every body panel.
Not a big fan of that front fascia. Like the stock 4runner front better...

Are the turn signals LED?

I think chrome looks better on the pearl white; black chrome looks ok white looks eh.
I Test drove it recently and it's outdated for a 2021. Feels like a 2016 instead.
