This is one of the best videos I have ever seen on redoing a project. Finishing pallet wood is such a pain with all the different species going on, and you really made some good choices and experiments along the way. Most important message is probably don't be afraid to cut up your project and make adjustments. Thanks for this Mark!
So many channels edit their videos so it looks like they can complete complex builds with no issues what so ever. I love that fact that you don’t shy away from showing your complete process, mistakes happen and there’s always a way to make them work for you.! It’s makes us more inclined to want to try things as we know that making a mistake doesn’t mean the project is a write off.
I find it’s quite the opposite three days, where lots of makers go out of their way to show their mistakes.
Personally I liked the look of it before the white wash. Each to their own taste and style. The fix you did was a great improvement on the look and nice to see how you did it.
Keep up the great work and videos.
@@dainermade You make incredibly beautiful work. I'm sure it will sell. Keep us updated! Have a great day!
It's an absolute pain when your finish isn't what you like or expect. I have a friend who is an excellent painter and decorator who is always handy with the right advice.
The thing I love about your videos is you dont hid the stuffups, even better you show how you fix them, even if its worked on the fly :)
More than happy to share, rather someone not make the same mistake, cheers
Love this video, and the build video for the piece. Your style, approach, and humor are such a welcome change in the YT woodworking community! You have quickly become one of my top five absolute favorite YT woodworkers. Thank you so much for all that you do and share. 🙏 You're a real inspiration and motivating force for those of us starting out in a similar fashion. Stay safe out there , and thank you again for all you do!🤘
Mark, you've truly outdone yourself. I was critical at your first video of this cabinet, but not anymore. I take back my words, you really can do this.
Great work dude. BTW, not showing anger/frustration but instead showing you take criticisms to heart, you really do that sign behind you proud.
think you went from 80;s to the 70;s with the look, and that's a win. Good job.
Nice work correcting all the small imperfections Mark. I actually prefer the white as well, still keeps the rustic vibe of the pallet wood with the higher end drawer fronts, makes for a nice contrast. Best of luck with the sale. 🤞🏻
You know you’re in for a good time when Mark pulls out the Japanese pull saw in the first 3 minutes haha
Cabinet looks great, Mark, thanks for sharing the process. I’m afraid I’m yet another vote for the pre-whitewash finish (my favourite part of pallet wood is the screw holes & scars), but that’s okay, I’m not your customer. Hope you make a million. Thanks for brightening our day.
That was awesome, I was thinking you made a mistake with the white wash, but it looks fantastic, I love. I work with pallet wood as well, so your channel give me good ideas. Also I am an Australian living in the USA so for me your video’s and humor bring back good times. Keep it up!
Your vision is what makes or breaks a project, never be afraid to change what you feel is not right. Re-doing the table or console was the right thing to do. In the end you achieved your goal. Excellent mate.
Love it, Mark! This is a style my wife would really dig!!
Missed the first video, but this follow up has made me want to go back and see where this came from!
I think the white wash looks good, at a glance it almost looks like a marble top - a great combination for the dark wood front.
I personally would have been happy with the old finish, the chevron design was a clear design choice, but obviously you know your local market and you want to put out quality furniture that you are happy with.
Great video as always, honest and informative!
That's an interesting piece. The curves remind me of those very old radio cabinets from way back.
I'd like to add, comparing the start to the end of the video, the improvements are huge. Your reworking of the left-hand upper curve was just so spot on. Congrats and all the best for the sale! Do let us know when it does get sold!
We need more UA-cam woodworking vids that show the process and mistakes that go in to almost every project people build. Instead of the glossy money shot projects that look flawless.
Well presented and i like the fact that you are critical with your own work even when its finished. Well done! Best regaeds
@@dainermade thats true. I started woodworking a year ago when i started woodworking. I am still at the beginning but i try to fix every bit that annoys me while watching at the piece. Learing and improving never stops. Keep up the good content 👍🏼
Top Stuff Mark, looks Grand with the white finish on there now.
Well done mate, incredible to see what you've made with the pallet wood!
I love the honesty in your videos Mark. It's refreshing to see someone who's not afraid to share their F@#k up's.
I must admit though, when I saw the finished top in the workshop, I thought "WTF has he done", but after seeing it in the room setting, it looked awesome.👌
Fixing the bugger ups. Love it. I reckon you can make a production line of these things now you’ve ironed out the kinks. 😂
@@dainermade we share the same problem
That looks so good. It's just a tiny fk up no bigy. That's a gorgeous piece. As always. ❤️
✌️From England
Thats a tough piece I reckon, you have pulled it off Mark, well done!
its cool to see how you made the original and then when youre fixing it. youre putting in all these new skils youve picked up! Fingers crossed you can sell it soon!
That came out great! Glad you came back to it.
You did a great job there mark. The TV cabinet looks good. You should get a good price for it.
Thanks Dainer inspiration to me on the other side the ocean in South Africa
right on Man!
If you want to add a little durability to that white finish, add a couple of layers of Minwax Polycrylic clear topcoat. It works very well. It's especially effective over chalk paint.
Seeing you cut out and remove that corner gave me so much anxiety lmao so happy you made it work. I feel like I would have ruined the whole project doing that 😕
The side hussle to the side hussle
good job going back over it mate, you want to feel that you've done your best on projects you sell, and you seem a lot happier with the end result now. As you mention, that pallet wood chevron patterny top won't be to everyones tastes, (ie, not to mine lol) but I reckon the drawfronts look spectacular, some really cool grain in there. Best of luck with the sale, hopefully the buyer chooses to pick up cos it looks heavy! 👍👍
The only thing I would say is, when you are marking out on joinery, use a 3H or 4H pencil, the light top looks a lot better, when people buy a pallet wood piece of furniture, I think they expect nail holes, excellent video,
Hey Mark, Dont be afraid to use danish oil and shellac, even linseed oil mixed with methylated spirits..i buy the shellac flakes and make it on the spot..
Love it! I wasn't sure on the white wash, but it came up nice and fresh.
Great video mate, honesty is the best policy, Great fix and i miss the 80's 😂
Excellent finished cabinet
Good on ya, Mark. Never stop the hustle, mate.
Well done mate. Looks great. Good on you for working on your mistakes. You are going places. Great encouragement for many.
It was good the first rodeo but now you done made it gooder. Real good shit mate
I like the end result & great work on the little fixes you came up with.
I'd say it looks pretty good to me,only thing I would've done differently would be to add a couple rubber gaskets in the back where the cords for whatever electronics are going to be placed on the shelves so the wires don't fray/split from the sharp wood
Hey bloke, late to the party as usual but only found your channel yesterday and love the format and your presentation, I must have watched a hundred and eleventy thousand woodworking videos and I'm only now seeing yours, anyways I'm on board now, subbed from Tinonee NSW 👍
"You know I'm making shit up cause the hands are moving"..I don't miss lots of things about FNQ but the one thing I do miss is the humour!!! Great vid Mark.
I recently just started woodworking as a hobby/side hustle m. Struggeling alot but more so enjoying creating stuff and the idea people have something you made in their house is just awesome. You have been my inspiration for the whole pallet wood creations, thabk you for that!
Definitely feel good about putting a price on it Mark 👏
I love the piece. Thanks for sharing your mistakes and fixes.
Looks brilliant!
Well done for getting the motivation to revisit a build, awesome improvements! 😃
@@dainermade haha, I appreciate the correction! 😄
I love everything you’re doing here. Keep grinding, you’ll be full time in no time 👊
Good luck with getting it sold I'm sure it will get lapped up. Hope u get the price you deserve for ya hard work👌👏
Came out amazing I love that white wash ! Lol first it looked like the 80s and then the 70s n now 2020s
Looks f-ing awesome Mark! I love the white washed top and how it contrasts. I've no doubt it will sell. Thanks for the update on the fixes.
Mate....great call re the finish on the top...way better!! Well done on sorting out all the issues too.....l would have thrown in the towel long before 😂 Good luck with the sale....suurrrrley you should get the asking price. Cheers mate 👍😁🇦🇺
@@dainermade 👍👍....may it rain cash mate 😁
Well done Mark!! As always you have improved on your building skills and really took this particular piece to the next level. Definitely an impressive and unique design. Looking forward to seeing what is next for your growing business. Keep up the great work!! Cheers!
@@dainermade a guys got to watch his toes!! We are having the same situation with the economy in my neck of the woods. Always a challenge for the entrepreneur. Just keep your nose to the grindstone and everything will work out just fine!!
That was a great video Daino, I haven't seen one like it before, where issues are pointed out then fixed, good on ya
@@dainermade some stuff just takes time to hit mate, it's all evergreen content either way 👍🏻
Good job Dainsey. It's a great looking unit. I preferred the stained top but the white looks good too. Keep up the good work. All the best.
Admire your determination to do the work required to get the look you were aiming for despite setbacks Mark. Personally I liked the stained top better than the white, but I'll admit it does give the piece a more modern contemporary look. On the whole a really wonderful end product for all your work and care.
@@dainermade Hey, it's always the "right" decision Mark, because it felt right, I know your aim is not just the money, it's the satisfaction that you tried something challenging, and you always leaned some things that will make future decisions even more right and satisfying!
8:10 Might want to think about taping your wood when using a drill bit. Less tear out. You can also use a sacrificial scrap to do this.
Definitely looks better with the white. A great video, I’m inspired and learning a lot from your videos.
It's frustrating but worth going back and putting things right. I'm refinishing a couple of guitars for the 4th or 5th time because they just don't cut it... but if I put them out in the world then it would constantly do my head in.
Beauty sir! Tured out looking great!
Love your acknowledgement of things you may not have done as well as you could have, more UA-camrs need to show the cock ups and how they fix them. Well done champion.
@@dainermade well just an FYI, your videos have given me an interest in starting to dabble in a bit of woodwork, so just keep doing what you're doing mate, it is appreciated.
I'd have sanded the top a bit more to make the pattern come out more through the white but that's my opinion. Anyway a very good TV stand right there
Blinder! Nice job.
Have to say Honestly I love it before the white wash, I loved the look of the knots and cracks made it look older wish is my like....
Well done mate!
Nice video and build mate 👍
Well Mark.......... The top is great (not my cup of coffee) and with the few fluffups tweaked, It looks GREAT,
And Sell it at a Great price for all the work that's gone into a totally unique piece
I actually like the "Non-Structural" prints inside the drawers. But I could be alone on that island.
looks amazing. great job...
2:25 LMAO... My wife says if I couldn't use my hands I couldn't talk. Hearing you express your wisdom on talking, I realize she's probably right. Which means I'm probably full of it! Very funny sir.
Cool build. Liked it better before the white wash. The white wash top sticks out like dog balls on a canary 😂😂
@@dainermade man i love your sense of humor. Been watching your channel for years. Got alot of inspiration
Flush trim router bits and templates
Will reduce your curve issues
'Dog balls on a canary' Mark 2023 . . . . Love it!! 🤣🤣
Nice work as usual! Think I preferred the stained top but you'll definitely find someone to buy this (wouldn't mind it myself think the shipping to the UK would be a bit steep though) great work!
There's so much effect in the pallet wood veneer and bending. It's one of it's best features in my opinion [warts and all] and it's covered by the new finish. It's a shame.
I don't even wait for the video to progress, just hit the like 😁
@@dainermade oh for sure. Good day (as you say) from Canada ❤️
You're awesome, great work!
hey mark, have you ever tried the vinegar and steal wool stain combo? keep up the good work mate.
Yes! Always enjoy seeing a new video from you nice one this was too
@@dainermade perfectly fine. Still enjoyable seeing something amazing coming from what some consider trash for whatever reason
Ive made a lot of mistakes in my projects, and some ive not been very happy about...but dog balls on a canary is a new one on me mate 😂
Looks great
Hi Mark, brilliant stuff you do. So brilliant I've got myself some tools to have a go myself. Do you do all your slabs to the same thickness or different for each job?
There will always be a buyer for handmade one-off pieces that are unique. i'm really glad you fixed that curve as that was messing with my ocd. lol. while personally i'm not a fan of whitewashed furniture and i much preferred the timber look, there will be stacks of people who will love the distressed whitewash look. stick with your gut and what you feel is right. if the quality is good then there will be oodles of people who will like what you like too. if people really want it then they'll pay freight. the price is very reasonable for a custom one-off piece, mate.
👍 Pretty good work. I like it.
Adding a little dye color into your finish would go a long way i reckon, Na the contrast is fine, adding some trim to bring out that contrast more would take it to the next level, all those different wood colors were blending together & making the whole thing to busy, well that's my 2 cents worth anyways, as always great jb mate keep it up, you're inspiring a lot of people out there, I'm one of them.
Thanks very much mate. Always nice to hear
Did a wake up still pissed from last night or did a just watch mark re do sommit?? Looks sweet as a nut now m8 cracking job and deffo full business human. Hows the bamboo/business metaphor coming. Although a was really waiting for u to slap yourself in the face with that pull saw. And we closer to the new table saw yet?? 👏🏴
fucken awesome job man the white wash was an awesome finish, very inspiring
Did it sell well man?? I hope u got a really great price for it bcos that was a heck of a lotta work that went into it.. This is the thing most ppl don't get or care about tbf. Hope u mnaged to make a killing on it my bro
I agree with your decision to take away that 70s yellow timber look. It did look crappy. The white makes it so much better, mate. Well done. Let us know when it sells and for how much. It'd be interesting to know.
Yes, it's me, Tony Jarrah with a new channel, going in a new direction. :D
@@dainermade Here it is mate. I haven't uploaded anything yet, it's brand new but it'll have a bit of everything, not just woodworking.

I see a black drawer, and I want to paint it black! (Your probably so young your like wtf?). It's just as well you make mistakes Mark, otherwise you wouldn't make anything! I can only speak for myself, but I learn way more watching someone fix something than seeing them getting it right first time.
Looking better. I would have gone for something black, on the top.
Hello, I am just starting to get into pallet building while only having a table saw and a miter saw. Any tips for getting straight edge? I am thinking of getting a planet soon but it seems hard to get started because all the wood seems to need a whole lot of work and not much progress gets done. I need guides!!
I just made a jig for making pallet edges square and I even screwed up on that. I’m an idiot 😂
I can't lie, I love the styling, but would have preferred if the top had been a grey stain to see the grain/figure and the front being a black stain, again, for the same reasons.
When I saw the video drop I thought farrrrrkk he's made another one.... nope, but you almost might of well have. The two are night and day. Don't get me wrong, I loved the 'old' one, but it was pallet wood furniture. This is art :D PS - 04:42 - When you are at the Woody Dust hit up the MTC folks for a sexy spoke shave set ;)
@@dainermade surely VIPs get a wee little MTC gift bag? 😋😋
Have a question if you see this because I can't find the answer anywhere, Do you check the moisture content on pallets before using them for your work?
Mark what is the name of the counter sink bits you use? Love the channel 🤟
and theres me thinking, when your making shit up you were skating across your workshop to detract us :) :)
