    Man, this is the first time I've encountered your channel, and not even a minute in I had to pause because that line at 0:26 "I just want to make cool shhhhhsstuff, be excellent to each other, and then fade off into obscurity" sent me into a moment of profound existential contemplation of mortality and the fleetingness of our individual existence in the vast timeline of humanity.
    I haven't gotten to anything about woodwork yet but judging from that, and the piles of timber in your intro that look exactly like the piles of salvaged timber lying around my place, I think I'm gonna like you a lot.

I've got to be honest, the design and finish of that wood speaks for itself - it's just breathtakingly beautiful and I've very grateful that you took all the time you did to make it and share it. However I came from Jesper because you are a part of a really wholesome and inspiring community and I feel like we need more of that. Love the priority you make out of recycling what you've got. One word of caution about salvaging wood. I once took a pallet home from work; it had come carrying a machine from Asia. It was a beautiful deep red wood with great grain figure, so I couldn't wait the get a piece of it onto my lathe. The chips came off quite fine, creating a lot of fine dust. I wasn't wearing a dust mask and my nose soon started running; I expecting it would just be clear fluid, like comes during a allergic response, but it was blood flowing from my nose, quite heavily! It seems that there are some species that can really get you in trouble!

    • @jonathanljohnson

    • @cadilacrich
      @cadilacrich 10 місяців тому

      It has actually been a trend dating back to early journalism - just sensationalized/misleading titles to trigger people’s curiosity. Like ‘Every car owner should do THIS if they’re smart’ or ‘I don’t know why more people aren’t doing THIS’. When I go to UA-cam, I like to curate my own experience. When people are vague about what they’re posting just to get me to watch… just feels dishonest. There are plenty of hugely popular folks out there that just do what they do. Doesn’t happen all at once. You have a great vibe and will definitely find more and more success without gimmicks. Cheers

    You're right about cheep lumber/free, except for removing nails and staples and sh!t, and stuff. I've gotten upwards of 30 pallets and crates of various sizes and types mostly broken down and de-nailed/staples, and other sh!t, and stuffed, around my outdoor shed. I could easily fill a 10' × 16' shed with lumber of various types (Roughly 3.04M × 4.87M shed).. And didn't cost me a dime, except for getting off my arss, something I already needed to do and get moving and doing/accomplishing something. My wife loves the cool stuff I've made her. Now I'm going to start making stuff for sale and get an LLC.!!! It's not solely because of your inspiration mate' but to you've had no small impact on WoodWorking Hobbyist UA-cam watchers and stuff would be selling you short.

    Mistake's are a way of telling us we can`t alway`s get it right. With each mistake come`s a wonderful thing ( KNOWLEDGE ). That`s how woodworkers succeed in the venture`s of woodworking and then out come`s a piece of art. We stand back and find we are only human but we do produce remarkable thing`s. Great video and narration Thanks for sharing.

    Just found your channel the other day and love the content! Im just starting on my wood working journey. I picked up a nice pile of hardwood pallets, and have started to disassemble them. Now for my question. All of these pallets are put togethet with helical nails and have destroyed my pallet buster that i built and are putting up a HUGE fight compining apart. Any recommendations to better attack them?

      @@dainermade right on, I like his method of using a scissor jack. I'll give that a go for these more stubborn ones for the time being until I can get some heavier steel to make a bigger, better, stronger pallet buster

    We all make mistakes buddy, try not to be too hard on yourself.
    Use it in the shop and it'll serve as a reminder to take your time, check twice and will therefore pay more dividends than cold hard cash ever could 😊👍

    Hi Mark, really enjoying the videos so thanks for putting them up. One things that is on my mind is where/how to get my grubby mitts on a pallet buster. I've seen a few online and they look cheap and nasty and the reviews are not encouraging. Bunnings have something for just over $100 but it also looks a bit on the dodgy side and I'm not sure it would hold up under pressure (attempt at humor, sorry). Any suggestions would be appreciated. cheers... Steve

    I feel like if you staggered the transition between different coloured chevrons on the slab, it would have looked even more awesome. Its a shame you forgot to make the waterfall tall enough though, it looks awesome and there must be loads of people who would love to buy it.

    Mistakes happen. That's how you learn and grow. But I always cringe when people admit critical mistakes then proceed to sell their work for a few thousand dollars. I appreciated your repurposed outfeed table idea.

    Youll lose some overall width and a bit of height again but Id just reset your jigs and recut the side off the top at the joint while correcting the angles. Get them all square and 45 and re attach. Not ideal, but probably about the only way to really fix it.

    Hey I love the videos mark, Does pallet wood warp after a glue up ? Or does this not happen due to the small pieces ?

      In my experience I've done bit with pallet wood they don't tend to warp or least mine haven't anyway glued up onto legnths to make slab style you'll get little expansion and contraction but ave had no major issues. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
