    Hey I'm finally done with my new PC and you helped me alot with several of my decisions ^^ I'm loving this board so far and surprisingly enough I didn't break anything during the building process and had no leaks so far. Wish me luck it stays that way

      Nice one! Glad to hear you are doing well with it!

  • @maxbootstrap7397

    So far I'm loving my:
    - 4 * Ryzen 7 1800X CPUs.
    - 4 * Corsair H115i CPU coolers.
    - 4 * Thermaltake Core X5 cases.
    - 4 * ASUS Crosshair VI Hero motherboards.
    - 4 * Seasonic 850W Titanium power supplies.
    - 8 * GSKILL TridentZ 4266MHz DDR4 SDRAMs (16GB per PC).
    Everything working (after newegg !quickly! replaced one case trashed by shippers).
    Initial overclocking results: 1 system each at the following stable overclock speeds: 4.4GHz, 4.5GHz, 4.6GHz, 4.7GHz. I'm not someone to leave my systems overclocked to the maximum (I drop them 0.2GHz for long term stability and longer component life), but they worked flawlessly at these speeds for 8 hours under four different maxed-out load scenarios (that kept all 16 threads always busy). CPU temperatures never reached excessive levels. The highest was high 60s... 10C to 20C lower than my expectations for such high speeds.
    I consider these excellent results, but obviously not clock rates the i7 7700K can achieve. Note that the DDR4 ran fine at 3200MHz and I did not try anything higher. For the overclocked CPU stability tests I lowered them to 2966HMz per AMD suggestion (but lowered the timings by multiplying the SDRAM rated timings by 2966/4266) so the speed was essentially the same as full-bore rated speed at 0.05V below GSKILL specified voltage.
    Note that I am not an expert at overclocking CPUs or SDRAM, so others might get different results. But I think my tests confirm that Ryzen does overclock, but how far is not entirely consistent from CPU to CPU. *EXCEPT* I should not say that, because possibly the motherboards or SDRAM aren't identical in performance, so I can't pin the differences on the CPUs. Note that I did not swap the CPUs and SDRAM sticks into every possible combination to identify the exact situation, and I don't intend to (I don't have a youtube channel... hahaha). Do you know how many combinations that would be? :-o
    LATER NOTE: Oops! I forgot to mention something that may be important, and explain why I got better results. I built my systems during the day, but started overclocking tests about 11pm at night and throughout the night in the control room while my automated telescope searched for NEO about 50 feet away. When observing the control room is not heated, because heat ruins "seeing" (causes atmospheric turbulence). All this is normal to me, because this is my normal environment. But the consequence is, the control room was at 0C ~ 5C during my testing, which let me boost voltages higher than room temperature. Indeed when I tried to repeat this test during the day, when the room was about 20C, results were 4.2GHz, 4.2GHz, 4.3GHz, 4.4GHz at 1.50V or lower. Not willing to try above 1.50V.

      If you really are reaching those speeds (I have not seen anyone, reach more than 4.2ghz so I find it hard to beleive) maybe mem has something do with it

    • @maxbootstrap7397
      @maxbootstrap7397 7 років тому +3

      Please read the extra note I added at the bottom of my original message that started this thread. It explains why my results were so good. My results are still good now, but not as good. Still seems like I got some good silicon... just not magic silicon. :-o Sorry about leaving out relevant details on my first post.

    • @StarlancerAstro
      @StarlancerAstro 7 років тому +2

      4.4 is still a lot higher then I've seen, most are maxing at 4.1 maybe 4.2. props to you or you a pushing a lot of volts

    • @maxbootstrap7397
      @maxbootstrap7397 7 років тому +2

      I'm not sure what voltage is safe, but I limited myself to 1.50V because I don't want to risk reducing the lifetime of my CPUs significantly. I typically only update my computers once every 5 years, and want to repeat that policy (these 1800X chips replace my FX8150s).

    • @StarlancerAstro
      @StarlancerAstro 7 років тому +1

      I'd say 1.5 is on the high side, but really no one knows when degradation will happen. I still haven't seen anyone pass 4.2 without crazy voltage or LN2, so you got a good one there it seems. I'm still deciding if I want to keep the ryzen or not, I really want to like it, but it runs hot, way hotter than my old i7 did and it's supposed to have a lower TDP, hell I even upgraded my cooling and disappointed in the OC ability.
      BTW what kind of scope, I'm an armchair astronomer myself.

    Hi, first thank you for the review!
    One question, why is the Q-code on the motherboard off? (or i cant see it)
    I ask that because I tried to connect the MB (the same, crosshair) with only two cables from the power supply to the MB, and the RGB works, but the Q-code LED does not (without ram, cpu, etc... only connected to the psu). I see in some reviews that the QCODE is on, connecting the MB this way.
    I can not try until few weeks put a cpu, so i dont know if is broken the Q-code :(
    Many thanks!

      Just a heads up they have a 5803 bios out for testing. It's not listed on their main site but they are letting the public test it and it seems to help some. I'd recommend grabbing them if you are experiencing issues as some people are saying it helps make the board a bit more stable and it also fixes the bug that the 5704 brought which is a temp read bug. It will state your IDLE Temp is like 60-70C when in fact it is nowhere near that.

    • @rysecnewton9778
      @rysecnewton9778 7 років тому +3

      From what I understand this maybe done by a few Aussie tech UA-camrs soon. The ASRock is more stable right now, but as ASUS fix the gremlins in their BIOS this is likely to be flipped on its head.

    • @XJS1982

      I own the ASUS now. It's "meh" in my opinion. Way too slow to fix the BIOS. It's been a month and not a single update. MSI are MUCH faster, they even added Ryzen 5 support on the day of release and more RAM optimisations for the Titanium

    • @rysecnewton9778
      @rysecnewton9778 7 років тому +1

      It's the second time I cannot recommend them. Their Z77 stuff was utter shit too. The Crosshair is proving to be a nightmare, slow BIOS fixes and overall a bad board. The Asrock Taichi is an amazing board, the board i SHOULD have gone for.

    • @mathguyfelix3364

      I was helping my brother upgrade his pc and we went with the ASUS Crosshair as the guy from micro center recommended it. I told him I've heard known problems of them and he said they have been fixed.The board lit up beautifully in all its RGB glory but would not post. After reading post after post about bios issues or the board bricking itself, we finally came across an amazon review with our exact problem. The guy described our problem exactly and he said ASUS told him over the phone to return the board. We were pretty pissed off so returned the board because aside from ours being DOA there are way too many posts about this board having issues. I dont know why I havent came across a video talking about it.

    Nice board but my Aura is failing a lot, the software crashes all the time. Also glitch boot sequence, sometimes it just turns on for a second and turns off. Needs some BIOS updates, but got my 1700x to 4.0ghz on it.

    The MSI X370 Titanium has 8+4 pin power and an extra 6 pin power socket at bottom of mobo to give extra power and stability to multi-gpu set up. Will this configuration be better than the Hero VI?.

    • @TechteamGB
      @TechteamGB  7 років тому

      +beachboy boobybuilder (beachboy boobybuilder) in theory, although I've never used the extra pci power things because unless you heavily overclock multiple GPUs, it doesn't make a difference.

    • @beachboy_boobybuilder

      TechteamGB - thanks for info. I run Fury Xfire, so I am assuming the extra power would help. Another issue is that I have the Akasa Venom Medusa and Cryorig R1 Ultimate air coolers. I emailed both respective companies wrt AM4 brackets and they replied they are still working on it. No idea of ETA. I did receive an email from Cryorig this morning informing that the Hero VI has mounting holes for AM3+ and AM4 cpu coolers (I already knew that), but it looks like Cryorig may be capitulating about AM4 brackets. I hope not. I cant build my rig until I get AM4 bracket and either a Hero VI or MSI X370 Titanium (overclcokers are saying end of March or early next month!).

      TTGB - dude, bearing in mind all of the current BIOS, RAM and overclocking issues that are plaguing AM4 (particularly Asus), do you think the Hero VI is worth buying?. Will these issues be fixed via BIOS and chipset updates?. One Amazon reviewer is saying it cant be fixed via BIOS updates and he advised to hold fire for R2 version. What do you advise?. Finally, I saw an American review of 1800X using Hero VI and he said you need to download W10 jubilee edition to a usb and install that way because Ryzen wont work with vanilla W10 (especially from a disc). Is this true?.

    Help! Please! I just bought this motherboard and when I got it, I
    noticed that my Heatsink Lights aren't turning off after Windows
    Shutdown. I updated to the latest Bios and the issue remains. I tried
    enabling ErP S5 and the lights did go off but it was permanent. Any
    solutions to this? My old MSI Z170 Gaming M5 was working just fine with
    the RGB. This motherboard doesnt. Please, help!

      I think I solved it. In the Asus Aura, if you go to the Independent section, you can select the Off option. It worked for me. I didn't have to adjust anything in the BIOS either. Try this and let me know. It was frustrating experience tbh.

    • @AllOutNoobHater
      @AllOutNoobHater 7 років тому

      Matthew Kehoe I actually switched back to Intel. The shit isn't optimized at all yet. Hell I was in GTA V and got to around 40fps while FLYING and using the GTX 1080. Hell you can't even overclock in the BIOS yet with the Gigabyte so you have to use the Ryzen Master tool. Oh and the audio driver update doesn't let you use the software yet. Those were the only two issues I had with the board. In my opinion, return your stuff for Intel i7 because you'll save $30 and if you're just gaming and not doing ANY workstation type stuff, go with Intel.

    • @matthewkehoe4792
      @matthewkehoe4792 7 років тому

      I am actually making this for my dad, i have an i7 6700k myself but he does more workstation work which is why i thought ryzen would be best. With all these issues i might just leave it at stock until the bios options imporve and then start overclocking. Could you tell if ryzen need strong motherboards like the FX chips used to? I used to have fx 8320 but the motherboard i had was awful and throttled like crazy so its putting me off getting a cheap AM4 board
