Asus does deserve credit for even bringing this board out.. I was thinking the same thing when the news hit. Looks amazing. Great review. I can't afford it.
IF they ever actually do bring it out. They are way past due, and there is no word from the retailers about when it will actually sell...
newegg sells it but its out of stock
SodiePops i just ordered mine today and it was shipped same day hell ya my custom loops almost done just gotta bend tubes
Death, I have been living on my own since I graduated from High School. That includes 5+ years of college.
Dear mr. Death
AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Processor
ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Extreme Socket-AM4
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz 16GB
Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4 CPU Cooler
Samsung 960 PRO 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD
(currently looking to add something more, possibly a 1080ti)
All in my shopping basket, ready to be clicked home and be paid for. And i still have cash tucked away in my savings account to buy 3 more of this setup!. I live alone in the west with a rent at around 700$. No car though so that's some extra's every month for me; but even if i had one, it wouldn't matter much in terms of allowing myself luxuries. All it takes is planning, and avoid stupid consumtion and you're good.
And no... I do not have a fancy super-mega job. I work at a DIY (Do it yourself) building supplier as a consignee, that's bottom fish in a corporate heirarchy.
You are doing something wrong if you live in the west, and can't live alone and buy one damn single motherboard.
I need to quickly point out that this board supports dual M.2 PCIe 3.0 slots wired directly to the CPU. I believe it is the ONLY board that does so. In order to accomplish this, it 'shares' the PCIe 3.0 pathways with the 2nd. PCIe 16x slot. Therefore, you can chose SLI, CF OR you can choose a dual M.2 in a RAID configuration if so desired. This is a unique feature that helps justify the price difference, presuming you would consider an M.2 RAID configuration. Please check my accuracy as my focus is terrible, but I believe this is correct.
If correct would you be willing to test this feature to see the performance difference? Thank you Tom.
Ted Cronk ryzen only has 20 pcie lanes from the CPU, so two x4 m.2 from the CPU would cannibalise from the x16 slot. I would rather run the second m.2 from the x4 pcie from the chipset, which is what I might do in the future.
If you're only running 1 graphics card, 8 lanes is fine. But I do wish Ryzen had support for at least 24 lanes, to add a little more headroom for PCIe expansion.
The MSI Titanium board also sports dual m.2 slots. :)
Good point Andre I only saw the impact upon the 2nd PCIe slot. 24 lanes would be the sweet spot nappydew. SLI at 2x8 and M.2 x4 x4 RAID if so desired. MartinSnow, I had looked over that board when it released and thought it was a single M.2 on the cpu and a single on the chipset. I'll look again. Thanks all for the replies.
Only one of the m.2 slots gets its lanes from the CPU, the other is on the chipset. If you use the 22110 length slot it will prevent you from running SLI or CrossfireX and it will limit your graphics card to only 8 PCIe lanes. Don't bet on them supporting RAID either, since they don't get their PCIe lanes from the same source. www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-CROSSHAIR-VI-EXTREME/specifications/
Really good to see Asus showing some AMD love for the extra 1% at the high end! I am likely going to jump back onto the Asus ROG Extreme train with the Zenith and TR. :)
So pretty my precious!
At launch i did struggle to see any reason to go for any X370 board, now i do n33d!
Fantastic review this board in particular might be the best optimized for a RYZEN build to date
Considering just over year ago I was looking at a Dual Xeon board that may or not have been a network board with two processors just to get close to 8 cores and an Nvdia Quadro so I could run 3DS max Realflow and the rest of the special effects tools I use daily this mother board is a no brainer when paired with the wx7100. AMD killed it last year. As I am an late adapter I just ordered this mother board and with the rebate so I am going to pay 365CAD. The way I see it I just saved 3000 or so bucks across my initial build. Dude I really appreciate the work you are doing. I mean I can look at the specs on the Asus website but I have watched your finger piontee tour of the board about six times.(Not in a creepy way!) It helped clarify this product like I was holding it in my hands and going through the manual.
I just want to say the things that sold me were the second nvme slot and the pile of usb slots. I am going to put 1T 960 pro and 16x2 CAS 14 with the 1800x in it and bring it up to the highest stable clock I can. Then run it 247. I will have loads of options for upgrades as I start to bottle neck as I try to force my software to do oddish things so I figure I will get a least 2 years out of it. Also it is VR Ready. The only drawback is that you cant get away with a cheap case.
TMI...too bad.
Thanks for your help.
SeriousG
Didn't you mean 25mm and not cm?
Hey if you don't know metric nobody's forcing you to use it :)
If your confused by davids statement 25.4mm = 1in, so it should have been 25mm not 25cm. But like you said "nobody's forcing you to use it :) ".
Great video.
Just note that your advice on E-ATX is a bit off imo. I've got the rampage V e.10 and the 272mm width is problematic for any case with a cable management bump/offset. I had to cut my Phanteks Enthoo pro M case (same internal as the evolv) as the bump interfered with the right edge of the board.
Complicating matters further is the fact that E-ATX seems to list with two different widths as standard. Some have 264 and some use 272mm. Asus and MSI use 272. EVGA and Asrock along with most case manufacturers use 264.
In the old days it didn't matter, but as cable management areas(& their offset) became more common in cases there is less room for error.
Love the channel and please keep up the good work. Note that my Asus Rampage V edition 10 was bought mainly because of your sizzle reel video on it.
Don't forget that this board will be good all the way through Zen 2 and Zen 3. It won't be obsolete for at least another 3-4 years, where as if you bought a z270 Extreme it will be obsolete by next year. So that is one reason it is worth spending the little extra bit of cash on this.
I am a little bit disappointed that it still only has a single usb 2.0 header, and a single pump header, and they dropped two USB ports on the rear for whatever reason. Also, I really liked that ROG flash drive that came with the M9E. Kind of sucks this didn't get one too.
Speaker1264 Not really within a year, less than 10 months from now Z270 mobo will be obsolete because Coffee Lake requires 300 series despite being in the same socket as Skylake.
Can wait to see your review of 1950x with Zenith Extreme!
It would have been nice to have seen you show us how to setup the temp sensors and how to handle the screw down of the m.2 under the heat sink.
i like how they acknowledge everything a gamer/enthusiast would possibly want like w_pump, RAD2A_FAN and so on
I want everything this board has and its exact look with a Threadripper socket. I know the Zenith Extreme is sort of that board, but it has an ugly vrm fan and led readout. I'm building a custom enclosure and this is soooo perfect. Even down the the addressable rgb and all teh water headers. Flat 24pin are the future. Thanks Tom.
That's 1 nice board I'd like to own, but it would be a waste for my 1500x
Why when I see all the RGB's I get Close Encounters of the Third kind in my head
Just as a quick note, one case E-ATX motherboards will definately not fit in is the Define S, it has metal sloping upwards right next to the edge of an ATX motherboard.
I just bought this mobo today together with my Ryzen 1800x. Gotta say i'm inlove with it.
Living the dream
Was it in an antistatic bag please? Mine wasn't.
Yes this represents the industry faith in ryzen. You would never see a board like this for the am3+ socket. Even if they only break even on R&D cost (or even turn out negative) it still shows the consumer how serious the am4 platform is which will help more people buy into it, even if it's only a r3 and b350 board.
Why am I watching this? I can barely afford an B350 board.
So you will know how much it costs to go from a 3.9 to a 4.1 GHz overclock.
I can barely reach 3.84GHz with my board. At 1.38V CPU temp already reaching 75*C and sometimes prime95 crash.
silicon lottery.
Many people, like myself buy this mobo mainly for the looks 😂
It shows the market has confidence in Ryzen which is fantastic.
lexii miller haha this comment is funny because now people don’t have confidence in intel anymore because of amd
Case that will not fit but wish did is the Define S from Fractal Design. ALSO WTF!!!! EATX Ryzen.. WOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my opinion Define S is a bit worse than Define C. Just think about it: s takes more space than it needs to. I understand that Defined S is for custom liquid cooling, but Define C is just a bit more clean looking.
Was just commenting because i have the S and its been out a lot longer than the C .. Was just backing up what TTL was saying about cases. lol but thanks im happy with my S and my X-79
Ahh I see. Wasn't trying to offend you or anything. And it's true that S came first.
All good .. =) Cheers
I had an S & was about to buya C, but then I saw a Corsair Air 740 at the store when I was looking for a PSU for a pc for my dad & ended up buying it. Was my original choice when I was going to buy a case for my Ryzen, but I really liked the Define S a friend gave me to build my nephew a pc. Might still buy a Define C for a build for my brother.
Come on Tom if you get that water block you have to have a go at pushing that OC a bit further. :)
The functions of this board are better than half the x570 boards. Would get this board for ryzen 3000 but I need that pcie 4
bro i got this x370 at the same price of the x470 prime pro and it was a no brainer when you see im running r 5 3600 (i changed it recently, i had the 2600)
i dont overclock and wont use lets say most of the features but i got an nvme and the wifi is good
im in love almost 2 years and half after this video was made
oh and in case you didnt bought a x570: the pcie 4 is not worth it yet
but then if you get the x370 it would be hard for you to sell it and upgrade so its a mixed bag if you ask me
Damn 4.15 GHz stable on small FFT torture test?
i was about to say what the fuck
asus really makes sick ass boards...
I'd say that with enough binning you could find an 1800X that can hit 4.2GHz stable on this board. Especially along with the 3333MHz memory that's going to have amazing multithreaded performance across the infinity fabric due to the high frequency memory.
Asus just made the best looking Ryzen board that yet exist. Subtle light with solid parts behind the curtains.
Rampage extreme are the only other parts that come close in their line. This is nearly half as much. Budget enthusiast will be on this 370.
With Coffee Lake most likely confirmed to not work with 170-270 boards, this is the best Ryzen upgrade path. A board like this will satisfy anyone and at 350.00, it's expensive but within reach.
Buying this board with a 1700X. Hopefully, the silicon gods will bless me with a good cpu, and I can get 4.1Ghz. I game at 1440P. Pairing with a 1080ti. When Ryzen 2 comes out this board should handle the extra OC room those chips in theory should have. Great times we are living in gentlemen.
DelphiMindGames when is it relsed... i want it
See the thing with the top end ASUS x370 and X399 boards is that yes they are expensive but they really are the best and only truly high end option. Gigabyte didn't even make a gaming 9 X399 board let alone X370. Plus if you buy this board or the Zenith Extreme for X399, the can literally be your last board for like 3-5 years given AMD's commitment to supporting these sockets until at least 2020.
No SATA Express? No onboard USB 2.0 header except for the ROG Extension. Only a single gigabit NIC? No Direct (to BIOS) header? I like the subdued color scheme. Glad to see the integrated rear IO panel.
Curious to see what their waterblocks are going to look like. Definitely getting this for my new build! Thank you very much for the review.
Whiskey Foxtrot not Asus blocks. They are 3rd party blocks
(Should be something like the Maximus Extreme, yes?)
I got this from Newegg as "Open Box" for $208.. Insane! If I find anything wrong ,it still has the manufacturer warranty :P
Thumbs up, but damn it man I need that deal.
I love this platform and this board. top of my list. if I ever win the lottery maybe I can have it one day.
Hooray!! This is the board my build has been waiting for, now just need the water block and a new mortgage lol
Would've prefered a formula board with integrated water block :/
The left-most memory stick RGB lighting was dropping in and out around the 16 minute mark. Otherwise looks like an awesome board, my Asrock Fatal1ty gaming pro gave up on me and will probably replace it with this one.
Edit: actually looks like it's synced with the lighting on the I/O shield, sorta.
I noticed it as well. My T RGB sticks will hang after a dancing session on my intel H270 board. Wonky software
Stalewind Farto1078 yeah this is why I never installed the trident z rgb software. Too many horror stories
This Board Is Suited for the 8 core X versions of Ryzen .. .Not a Fan of RGB but this Board is PC porn
That's really nice, would probably have gone for it if I didn't already have the CH6 Hero.
13:06 Not a huge mistake but lemme correct. It's G.Skill Trident Z
Yeah I caught that too ;)
They should have sold it with the waterblock really. This board screams even more water cooling enthusiast than the Hero. Just put in the box the heat-spreaders on VRM in case someone want to run it just on air. I built an extreme hard line tubing Ryzen on the hero and i admit i wish i had waited a bit longer now. I have a build log on my channel if you are curious. I had to spend money on pwm fan headers for my radiators and wish i had the M.2 cooler. Do the m.2 slots share the same bandwidth/ connector directly to the CPU Tom? This review should have had the asus aura for addressable LED and an overview of the Waterblock sensor and the software.
i like this british accent tho. Great review, thank you, it helped me a lot
Well having into consideration that not just the 1800x will work on this MoBo but also Ryzen 2 and I think that even 3, I think it have even more value.
i love this board but it needs a refresh for the 3000 ryzen cpus
At 4:50 please note that Millimeters are NOT Centimeters.
Pure unadulterated POWER!
Really glad I found this video in Nov. 2017 I will say though as far as getting it you could get it as an enthusiast...
OR you can get it because it was $260 on Amazon for Cyber Monday compared to the Hero w/ wifi for $250 _-(n_n )-_
This thing is heavy and beautiful. I am just waiting for Processor (Ryzen 1600X) and ram (TBA).
#Guilty #NoRegrets
Kudos dude, that is by far my favorite board. I need to have one or my build will never be really complete. Only the Rampage VI is better, but at HEDT is another conversation. To me this is a HEDT board with the AMD discount.
Dat bling... kinda hoping there'll be a Threadripper one as I'm looking forward to that, most likely
What's is coming in at GBP or EUR? Can you RAID the M.2 cards? How is the voltage stability? First review that I've seen so qudos :)
I don't even have a DVD drive in my rig, and I suspect many people with new builds don't. I'd rather they not bother with discs and save a few quid.
Awesome review once again Tom! Like i Said previously, i hate you, cause i just build my self a system around the hero VI, but i think i'll keep it. 😂 i can "only" get my 7 1700 to 3.9 GHz, but seams like I am not the only one. Scoring 1728 i CBR15, so not complaining. Let me know if i need to tinkle some more, and not seddle for what i have got now?
Cheers from DK
This proves AMD is serious competition now, Asus would not have released such a board if they were not. Welcome back AMD.
Does this have any sort of displayport? I've checked Asus' website and the Amazon page about it as well, there was nothing about HDMI or displayport. If someone who knows would take 30 seconds to read and tell me than this would be my board for a build in doing, thanks in advance!
If I could sub again for the magic I would! Amazing!!
Great unboxing and excellent review.
Good review. Sweet board. What's the maximum amps draw on the Pump Header?
yes time for a cuppa
Love all your reviews bro, thank you
i am looking at getting this board and i just noticed that the 24-pin is horizontal life saver as my cable extensions are from a brand the is notorious for their cables being really stiff
damn, that was quick!!! they just leaked this didn't they???
paul taylor he had it in the background in the ryzen retest video from 2 days ago.
paul taylor the x399 Threadripper mobo is the leaked one
This is Ryzen board
It was on show at computex wasn't it?
I am disappointed that the PCI lane layout is not the traditional Extreme board layout that allowed 4 slot spacing for SLi / Crossfire.
That's because Ryzen 7 and under only has support for 20 PCIe lanes.
Just got mine delivered yesterday. It looks and feels amazing. However, it was not in an antistatic bag. Seems this one wasn't either. First I've seen of that. Hope it wasn't a return because I paid for a new one.
I might get the next version of this with RYZEN 2 !
If it fits in my phanteks evolv tax
Well, my dad already wanted my C6H anyways...
Uhh that looks good. Thaks for the review. And thank Asus for the balls to bring it! Such a shame I want to jump on threadripper ^^ Maybe they have something similar for us. :)
Tom, I'm subbed, have the 4K TV...only thing I'm missing is the 4K video...
I don't know about where you are, but here in Brasil a board like that is very expensive which makes me wonder why features such as that keybot USB socket that clearly are focused for budget builds are not more prevalent in budget boards. Feels like a waste in a board like this.
Is there going to be a Ryzen motherboard that has the plate covering? From a visual stand point I like those more. There seems to only be ones with the circuitry out in the open
what is the TDP of this motherboard??
hey tom great video, just wondering did you use rt cpu or the origin 1800x?
michael zex the RT cpu's have gone back.
Nice One. Hope to build my new System as soon as the h500p drops
Have you been able to OC your G. Skill memory, or is it running at 2400? The TridentZ isn't supposed to work at 3200 on the X370 chipset.
When is this coming out? I'm looking at starting a ryzen 7 build.. and with this news I'm now holding off to get this, instead of the predecessor.
Definitely would've buy it if i'd have money for it.
I'm very interested to see how well chips overclock on this obviously newer, refined Motherboard, Now that Ryzen Has been out For about 6 months and vendors have had a real chance to get things straight??????? I guess you kinda did tell us about the overclocking 4.1 possibly more on water.. It would be nice to see these chips hit 4.2/4.3, because 5% here and 5% there makes a difference..
MarcasswellbMD bios was the issue at the start tbh
Working on thermaltake core p5?🤔
Thanks for this awesome review. :)
Does this board still a good option for a 2700x? I dont like any of the new x470 boards, all of then looks too simple.
I really liked it too.
Please review the msi xpower soon TTL. I sent back my aorus x299 and need to replace it soon
It makes no sense to spend $350 on a Ryzen AM4 board. You only have 20 PCIe lanes & the whole point of Ryzen 7, 5, 3 was to offer good performance & be easy on the wallet. The old CH6 was already pushing it on price. For this much money, you'd be nuts not to wait and see what Threadripper has to offer. You'd get 64 PCIe lanes, and I imagine you could probably get an X399 board for close to this price. Very nice features, but I'm OC'ing just fine with my 1700 on a $150 ASUS Prime X370 Pro board.
How did he do the trick at 3:10? 😂😂
King Christo he threw it in the box
If Asus has that much confidence in Ryzen to even release a top end board then they must be seeing good sales number on Ryzen.
Hi I fixed the error code on the crosshair vi extreme , now boots in to bios fine, but it wont let me install windows on any drives m.2 or 3.5 inch drives ?
why when i go into my BIOS and choose any of the overclock that in the BIOS then when the system reboots the OC fails i update the BIOS to the latest which was 3502 from 2008 the crosshair v1 had a update 6001 but dont know why it would fail the overclocking the crosshair v1 i didnt had that issue
Hi. How does this board work with the 2700x? I have some 3200 ram and I am on the fence to buy this off a friend or go with thr x470i strix itx board that I have comming.
I have the cases and all at home so I can do both ITX or atx so that is not the problem.
My question is Will I run into memory problems with the 2700x and using this board? Is this board superior to the new x470i strix itx or not?
Thanks for any answer with a 2700x.
I have this same board and i cant get it to show up in armory crate to change the rgb, any help would be great!
I just got the bored:) funny thing was I found some 2 haribos inside the box?
woah! magic!
Looks a great board thinking of an AMD build, anyone know when we can get them in the UK?
ASUS is well beyond any brand.
I have a question can i put corsair water cooling with rgb on it and rgb fans bc a friend of mine said they need usb 2.0 connecters and it only has 1 on the bord
I'm so tired of seeing intel get all the awesome overkill boards. Thank you ASUS for bringing the Extreme to the Ryzen platform. I need that ROG full cover waterblock from the Maximus with it though.
Why don't you set motherboard in its stand and use camera stand adjusting you shot from there?
You can edit highlight in video instead of holding and pointing with your fingers
Does this motherboard fit in Phanteks evolv ATX case? Whats the width of that extreme?
Finally!
ProNGRGamer iu8i
Does this motherboard have the AM3+ mounting bracket? i mean the holes and all that stuff, because i have a Noctua NH-D15 pls answer :(
I'm waiting for an mATX Gene Ryzen motherboard.
That is a BIG thumbnail motherboard.
hello can some tell me what is means in normal english ( System agent initialization after mircocode loading ) the red led for the cpu is on and as the qcode 08 and i have put the latest bio's on it is the cpu dead ?
"It is just more epeen." lol - Honest review right there. 👌🏻
Can it be used without water cooling?
I went with the Strix X370 but props to Asus for making this. Looks sick af.
How about the thermals of the DC converters?
for what ia that START BUTTON?
Got the slot #1 ram rgb acting up. Wondering if it's part of the AURA quirks.
Update Aura, if you're having issues. It's been resolved. ASUS released a fix on their website, like a month ago.
