Excellent guide. Thanks, it literally took me 10 minutes to remove the centre console after watching this video but i found it easier to remove the upper console section top first !
What a great and simple but informative video. Helped me so much when taking the centre console out to look at the Auto gear linkage. Had my Boxster 4 years and didn't even know I had a coin holder lol. Thank you very much :)
Nice vid man and enjoyed the spray job vid as well. Having a go at mine this summer. Thanks for posting Given me more belief I can attempt some of these projects.
Hi Steve, yes I still have the 986, going in for a full repaint in May. I have been so busy I just haven't had much time, then of course we had all this lockdown malarkey. but I am hoping to get back to making a few videos in the summer.
Thanks des, good to be back, hard work just finding the time, lol. working on the latest video, big one at almost 40 minutes! 2 weeks spent editing, should be up on Tuesday...….. I hope! lol
Paul1962 Awesome! I look forward to it. I also am time poor and have not been driving the Porsche much. I have taken it out only twice in the last few months. I must find the passion again. Hopefully your videos will do it. 😀
A point worth noting Paul, the faceilft 986 also has a wire to the lock on the storage compartment as it locks with the centre locking. Just as an aside , I might be wrong but I'm not sure that the ashtray lid and all the window switch surround gubbins was painted if you originally asked for centre console in body colour from Porsche ? deffo not the ashtray lid Mike
On my 2005 986 the previous owner sprayed the interior white (And the cars wrapped in white) but the roof switch has 'popped off' inside the consol - maybe they damaged it when taking it apart. Either way I do I have to remove the entire consol to fetch the switch out? Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi, you should be able to get the upper panel out without removing the console, mine is the earlier car, I can access the roof switch by taking the radio out, think this maybe the heater panel in yours
Hi Paul, my buddy is a tech at my local Porsche dealer. When I mentioned I was thinking of painting my console he said to get a clear bra put over it because the console will get scratched. Something to think about.
Hi, they just unclipped, I can't remember exactly how now, but they were bloody tight. If you can give me a day or two I will lift out the switch panel and see if it jogs my memory
@@nicklee7171 I found this video this morning, ua-cam.com/video/7-Mro3ilumA/v-deo.html Should help you. There are 2 little lock tabs on the sides of the switch, up inside the housing, which is why he is springing the housing apart. he shows you how to repair a switch should you brake one getting it out, also I have a spare switch should you need one. I'm replacing all the bonnet/boot gas struts later today. (once I get my ass out of bed, lol)
Thanks Paul. We would have been screwed without this video. Painting one today Speed Yellow.
Your welcome, glad it was helpful.

Maybe one day I will invest in one, lol

Mike G, hi Mike, so dose mine, but that bit of footage came out shit! So it didn't make the final cut, lol
Mike G, not to sure, all the ones I've looked at are painted, but no one will open up to whether they are original or not
Mike G hi there

Thanks Paul. I'll have a look at it Thursday and let you know how I get on... let's hope it's a simple fix :)

Alxx Nova would that be clear plastic protective film?
PPF Paint Protection Film
yeah, a clear wrap might be a good idea to help protect it
Yep. The clear wrap you put on the front, or whole car.
Paul how do you remove the switches? Your video and the next video don’t show how you do this?
Hi, they just unclipped, I can't remember exactly how now, but they were bloody tight. If you can give me a day or two I will lift out the switch panel and see if it jogs my memory
@@Paul1962 waiting to hear. It’s the last step before I paint.

Ha ha! Gear knob came right off and my elbow hit the rear view mirror and broke the windshield. Hope the rest of this goes better ...
