I watched your previous video with the roof misalignment and cables coming out of the guide in this video. Had these problems myself, for anyone who finds themself here my fix for the clamshell misalignment was the left gearbox cable. Upon first Inspection everything appeared normal, it wasn’t until I detached the cable from the motor/ gearbox that I was able to see that the cable had lost tension/ frayed inside the outer rubber sleeve. You can see these cables in the previous video, Paul replaced the gearbox entire system, unfortunately it appears this was not his problem.
Great content, I spoke to you about this a few weeks ago. The problem I have and many other people have as I have seen on utube Is the Elastic velcro which has Stretched, I have stapled Elastic to this in the past, however this does not last long. Thanks for the video.
I found for the cable coming out of its guide that it was not the elastic, the rubber guide in which the metal tension cable runs had become separated from the mohair top just about 1/3 the way up from the clamshell at the back of the driver window. To resolve this i simply stitched it back to the mohair top. The rubber cable guide has a thick tab that wears over time and the original stitch becomes slack. Stitching it back resolved the problem. The rubber guide can only be seen when the top is in service position. Running to the most outward position of the mohair top When stitched back it cannot be seen as the rubber guide is completely hidden when the roof is open / closed
Hi Paul great see you back !! Re roof misalignment can you advise the procedure to realign roof ie do you adjust the arm with the roof fully closed in the service mode or partially open Best regards Terry
Hi Terry, partially open. Close the roof as far as possible while still giving access to the adjustment bolts. Then it's adjusting and testing, adjusting and testing until you are happy with it.
I’m in Essex, if you know any car guys, as them to recommend a local garage, also look at any online reviews to see what people say about them. To start with get quotes from 2 or 3 places to get an idea of what is a good price for jobs,

Hi Paul, Interesting video once again. Does you roof have a lining around the inside?
There is a sort of backing material in the roof, but I wouldn't say it is a liming as such.
Hi are you in the uk? Anywhere near Sussex? Can you recommend anyone around here to do work on 986's. Im too scared lol
